I'm leaving this review in hopes that anyone dealing with TMJ avoids the experience I had with this…read moreoffice. I was charged over $800 for an initial visit and imaging. The dentist reviewed my scans, explained that I had a displacement, and said they would follow up with a treatment plan. I never heard from them again. After several weeks of ongoing pain and zero follow-up, I began calling the office myself. All I received were excuses -- including that they were traveling and that's why no one reached out. It felt like they simply dropped the ball and then made excuses instead of taking responsibility. There also seems to be a major disconnect between the dentist and the office staff. The dentist told me that if my pain continued, he wanted to refer me to a more advanced specialist outside of Portland. But when I finally reached the "right person" on staff, I was told there was nothing more they could do except suggest physical therapy. No referral, no guidance, nothing aligned with what the doctor had said. If you're struggling with TMJ, I would not recommend this office. Please don't spend this kind of money just to be left without support or a plan. I was desperate for help and thought I was finally in the right place -- but the moment I walked out of the office, the follow-through disappeared. I'm not looking for excuses; I expect transparency and direction, especially after paying so much for a 30-minute appointment.

I originally went to Aspen Dental in Bend because they were one of the only providers that accepted…read moremy insurance. During my initial visit, I was advised to replace four large fillings with crowns. After agreeing to the treatment plan and beginning the process, I experienced repeated appointment cancellations due to ongoing staffing issues. On top of that, several appointments were delayed because the crowns were reportedly being held up in customs. When I asked where they were being shipped from, I was told they were coming from China, which was concerning to me given the cost and importance of the dental work being performed and the fact that they are our adversary.  Fast forward three and a half years, and one of the crowns has already chipped in half. Since then, I switched to another dental office that uses crowns made in the USA. Unfortunately, my current insurance will not cover replacement of a crown within a five-year period. When I went in to Aspen Dental, I was informed that their crowns are only guaranteed for two years and I needed to be a continued patient with them on a regular maintenance schedule with them.  As a result, I now have to pay out of pocket to replace the failed crown. In hindsight, I may have been better off keeping the original fillings. I would go across the street to PureCare Dental. They not only use crowns made in the USA, but they guarantee them for five years.

I initially had a great experience with Bend Dental Wellness. I needed a crown and felt very…read morecomfortable with the doctor--he did a great job, and I was happy with the outcome. Unfortunately, things became confusing after that. During my consultation, I was told I could bring in my retainers to have them adjusted to fit my new crown. However, on the day of my procedure, my bill included a new set of retainers that had never been discussed with me. During the procedure, scans were taken, but I was not informed that these scans were for new retainers--I assumed they were part of the normal process. At my follow-up appointment to place the final crown, I was given the retainers. The bottom one did not fit properly, and I was told it would be remade. I explained that I had not been wearing my retainers consistently for a couple of weeks and that my teeth had shifted, so I was not comfortable using scans taken at that time. I also shared that I was unaware retainers were being made in the first place and specifically asked to have both my upper and lower teeth rescanned once my teeth were back in proper alignment. After reaching out to the office manager, I was initially told I would need to pay half to have them remade. After some back and forth, they agreed to remake both the upper and lower retainers. I then wore my retainers consistently for about three weeks before returning for new scans. However, at that appointment, only my upper teeth were scanned, and I was told the lower retainer was already made. I explained that I had confirmed with the manager that both upper and lower retainers would be remade, and even offered to show the email. The technician declined to review it, did not contact the manager or doctor, and instead asked me to try on an older lower retainer. That retainer was molded to my previously shifted teeth and was actively moving my teeth back out of alignment. When I raised this concern, I was told the discomfort was "normal" and that the retainer was fine. I had to repeatedly explain that wearing a retainer based on a misaligned impression could undo the results of my previous orthodontic treatment. This interaction was one of the most frustrating healthcare experiences I've had. I felt unheard, dismissed, and unsupported. The technician would not escalate my concerns, review documentation, or involve anyone else in the office. I contacted the manager again to request a refund. After a long delay in communication, I was informed that I was being dismissed as a patient. I was eventually provided my scans, but it took over a month to receive my full chart records. I was ultimately refunded for the retainers. I work in healthcare and understand that mistakes can happen, but this situation reflected a lack of communication, professionalism, and accountability. There was no follow-up from the doctor, no apology, and no attempt to resolve the issue--only a dismissal as a patient. Overall, I am very disappointed in how this was handled.

Read the negative reviews before looking at the 5 stars because they all say the same thing. I was told I need 11 fillings on my first visit there. 11! I didn't advocate for myself because I trusted that a dentist would have my best interest in mind. I do not feel that was the case here. Every time I have been there, the cleanings have been max 20 minutes (does not feel complete) and the filling experiences are horrible, there are people running around and hardly talking to patients. I expected to at least be told that the doctor was leaving the room and a hygienist would be finishing it, but I looked up at the end and saw a random person I have never seen finishing fillings on my teeth. When I had to go back because of severe pain and sensitivity lasting over 10 days after the fillings, they then proceeded to poke around with no numbing in my severely irritated mouth. Once I was finally given a tiny dose of numbing, they started doing more work and it was so painful, I just wanted it to be over. However, the dentist told me "It's really hard to work on you when you're shaking like that." It was absolutely demoralizing and disrespectful. I clearly was in pain, but she just wanted to race through it and get it done. This was far from the only brash, rude and completely unprofessional thing she said in the appointments I have been to there. Additionally, because everything was so rushed, chaotic and disorganized, 2 -two! - of my fillings were done so poorly and rushed that, according to a different and much kinder dentist, it has caused irreversible pulpitis and I have to now get 2 root canals. The new dentist I have gone to now states that this is far from the first patient they have had that has come from this office with this issue. AVOID this place if you want any sort of care or want to keep the nerves in your teeth.

Alpenglow's is $100 to start then $35 a month which gets you 2 cleanings and x-rays each year and 15% off anything else. My x-rays were quite the adventure. I gagged one time which is normal for me. But the very nice and well-meaning hygienist wanted to help. She asked for a shaker of salt. Someone else in the office said she had one. She then comes over with a test tube of "salt" to put on my tongue to distract me so I wouldn't gag. I was highly suspicious... so I tasted some. It was citric acid. SO acidic it burned. They told me they were going to put a stripe of it on my tongue! So glad I stopped them! Just putting the story here so you can also stop them because wow that would have been awful if I'd just trusted them and had a mouthful of citric acid I expected to be a quick shake of salt. Besides that, I saw Jennifer Montgomery and really liked her. She taught me how to unlock my jaw which no one has ever taught me and I've had jaw issues since childhood. She did a thorough cleaning and didn't diagnose any problems that weren't there which is a huge problem in dentistry. Glad I found someone I can trust!

Weeks ago I had my 2nd and LAST dental appointment at AlpenGlow Dental in Bend. Here is why I call…read moreit LAST: I chose AlpenGlow when I was having trouble with Advantage Dental in La Pine. They had staffing issues. Covid was to blame and having a dentist from Portland who had to drive during snow season didn't help. Reading the good reviews of AlpenGlow, I went for my new patient appointment to get my teeth cleaned there on May 25, 2023. Due to a series of medical emergencies I had to cancel the next cleaning appointments but I went to them on November 14, 2024 and left feeling sad. After seeing what was the X-ray technician, then dentist who did gum check (I thought she was the hygienist because I never had a dentist do this), then I briefly saw THE hygienist as she peaked in the room to say she didn't have time to do my scheduled cleaning as I "needed deep cleaning that would require two appointments". I heard horrible gum numbers I have never heard in my life. I later showed my daughter the estimate and she said it was the 2nd high estimate she heard from them recently. I'm in my 70s and I have had some long-term dentists. I miss the one who retired as he took care of me and my four kids for over 27 years. I know the routine. Most dental appointments have been good for me, but I didn't feel good about the last appointment with AlpenGlow. I felt hustled and I don't even remember their names, if they gave them to me. No small talk. I also wasn't even shown my X-rays which I later realized no dentist has ever done that to me. I was told the X-rays were in the other room I didn't get to go into. Other dentists would have shown them and explained my options. Not sad now. My teeth were cleaned in one appointment by another dentist, and I felt the way I have about the good professional dentists/hygienists in my life and I'm going to return there. Saw my X-rays, no rush. Merry Christmas to me--I saved over $900! So glad I got a 2nd opinion. I got a normal cleaning with the addition of a deep clean of two teeth, not four sections. I only had a topical to help with pain on those two teeth. This is the first time in my life to be told I needed a deep cleaning. I realized that it had been almost one year and six months since they were last professionally cleaned. But somehow I needed a deep cleaning of two teeth. A few teeth below needed a little extra attention but nothing like those two teeth. I have never felt the need for a second opinion but I'm glad I got one. The office of AlpenGlow has a beautiful vista, but I am not willing to help pay for it.
