We have been coming to Deer Grove clinic for 37 years. We have always been treated by friendly, caring and professional staff. Dr. Zelensky has gone above and beyond for us with both of our dogs. At times when issues have been beyond their scope, they have referred us to other skilled professionals and have remained in the loop with their care. We have taken dogs and cats their over the years and have never had any concerns about their care-in fact the pets personality traits seem to be enjoyed by the techs and vets and is really enjoyable as an owner. I had been going to Deer-Grove for probably over 35 years. I was very happy with them for a long time, and liked all the vets. Dr. Frame was great and never tried to sell me on things I didn't need. Dr. Raab was very thorough and gentle. (But she isn't there anymore). More recently I have had some experiences that just don't sit quite right. Nothing horrible or major, but just a little off. (For instance, I had a dog with a UTI and was told that I would get 10-14 days of antibiotics and then only got 7. It just made me wonder. Did that create the need to come back for more services? It was things like that). I also think they have been taken over by another company. The bottom of their website says "Part of Lakefield Veterinary Group". That could be part of it. The drugs there seem very expensive. When I compare the cost there with what I would pay at Costco, it is about double. Maybe they can't help it, but it just seems like 100% markup is a lot. So, that is my two cents worth. I am planning to go elsewhere now. read more

Absolutely love the vets and staff here. They are very kind and extremely understanding. I really appreciate Dr. Raab for taking my 18 year old senior pom in during an emergency due to her age/kidney problems. Dr. Raab was able to administer IV fluids and stabilize my dog. She was also great at following up, including contacting the emergency vet hospital to inquire about the tests they ran. I would highly recommend the vet services at Deer Grove Veterinary Clinic. We came to Deer Grove after our bullmastiff puppy was misdiagnosed and wrongly treated for months by our previous vet (an all around awful and expensive experience). At this point we had a very hard time trusting anyone with our precious baby but Dr. Frame and all of the techs/support staff at Deer Grove have been wonderful. Our dog was neutered at Deer Grove in 2022 and everything went well and he healed nicely. The appointments never feel rushed and Dr. Frame is great at answering all of our questions as well as explaining treatments and educating us. I was not completely satisfied with the service. Front staff was friendly but, I did not ask for one of the shot my dog received it was automatically given. It was not a necessity. I drive in from Monona and I was afraid I was going to run out of gas so I did stop to get gas I forgot to do the night before and I was about 10-12 minutes late and was told I would have to make another appointment. This was 8 in the morning and I was the only client there. Dr Frame could not see my dog. I have not been back since. read more

I would not take my animals anywhere else! We had an elderly cat whom we had to put down. Deer Grove and their staff were so incredibly kind and patient with us. Our vet and I had several 45 minute conversations about what our options were - letting us express our concerns while we grieved over what the next steps were. Never were they pushy but really cared for our animal. Now we have a puppy which we have been taking there for 6 months and being our first dog they are just as kind and patient with us. This place....I thought it was good until I connected the greedy lines. I've taken two different dogs there. I had some concerns about different issues and the guy that runs the place was the person that looked them over. Cancer was what he thought. Jumped right to it. The first diagnosis was completely wrong, not even close to cancer. The second time, he wanted to remove my dogs eye "no big deal, they won't even care". Whatever buddy. As it turns out, after another vet saw her, a steroid creme was prescribed and it did the trick. Several years later, the dog is still doing great...with BOTH eyes intact. What kind of vet jumps straight to cancer that fast....on multiple occasions?!? All I can think of, is that surgery pays more than a topical creme ever would. Well, they lost my business for good. Everyone I meet, I tell the same story too. Their fees are high, you never get in at your appointed time, and be prepared for a worst case scenario thrown at you...maybe to see how you react? I would never return to this place, ever! They don't have you, or your pets best interests at heart. They're in it for the cash grab. read more

Took my puppers in for an anxiety issue. Dr Frame was very helpful and informative with our plan of action. He explained all of the different medications we can try and how to act in certain situations. He has made me feel much better knowing that there are many options to help my boy. I found this clinic while searching for someone who performed TTA for my dogs torn CCL. I drove all the way from Milwaukee to have Dr. Frame perform this procedure on my two dogs. He is a wonderful veterinarian, caring, compassionate and very skilled. He spent a lot of time with us going over everything, was thorough in his examinations and went out of his way to make our nervous dogs comfortable. The surgeries went very well, one of our dogs bounced back a bit quicker than the other but they are both doing well now two weeks later. We had a physical therapy session with Dr. Percour as well and she is just as wonderful. I'm very impressed with this facility from the lobby and exam rooms to every tech and receptionists I came in contact with. I'm strongly considering making them my primary veterinarian despite the 1hr 15min drive for me. I highly recommend this clinic and I highly recommend the TTA, though you will probably be hard pressed to find anyone who does it outside the Madison area. read more

Wow, I had to have a prescription filled here because we had ran out and could not get to our normal vet. They charged us DOUBLE for the same amount and same brand name of medication. Makes me wonder what else they over charge! Beware if you are looking for a new vet, I'd shop around. When I asked them why it was so much, all they said is that they only buy from their wholesalers what they need. So my advice is to have Chewy.com fill your orders or to stick with a vet you trust. When we first transferred to deer grove our senior pup was declining. Dr Tom was amazing and honest. Helped us to understand our pups progression and offered support. Being a human healthcare worker, I've been beside many at end of life. Dr Tom supported us until the end. There was no rush... I held our little pup as she crossed the rainbow bridge. Dr. Frame really helped me out with my anxious and stressed puppy. She has issues with strangers, smells, and sounds, and has been particularly distressed after losing her best friend and very close loved one, my dad. He helped me with getting her on medications to ensure that her quality of life is what she deserves, and she is a much happier puppy now with WAY fewer anxieties. I wanted to get her nails trimmed and he even advised against that upon his first few appointments with her because he wanted to make sure that she was more comfortable with him. She'll never get over her issues with going potty in the rain, but at least now she isn't so miserable that hearing a car door shutting will send her into a panicked frenzy like it would have before. I dread the day I move too far away to come here with my animals. We were originally going elsewhere (I can't remember the name of the old place) with my cat and it was always a traumatic experience for him. He hates leaving the house and they were always tough with him. When we came here for the first time, the vet gave him a quick check over to make sure he was in good health and let him go sulk under the desk. She would have put him back in his crate, but the assistant was cleaning it for us because he had peed on the drive over! We were so happy about that detail, as any cat owner will tell you cat pee is not fun to clean up. She told us about the rabies shots he had been getting - one for every 2 years - and how there was a slightly less effective (but in the case of an indoor cat, much more practical) 6 year shot. This means only dragging the poor guy out of his spot on the couch once every 6 years. Yes please! She asks about him every time we go in with the dog, which is heartwarming that she remembers the cat she hasn't even seen in years and still cares about how he's doing. Everyone who works there recognizes our dog as soon as he comes in. He loves it there (until he remembers that he gets needled almost every time) and he's always excited to see the people. The vet is one of his favorite people in his life. They've recommended other vets for my small animals when needed, which is a wonderful service. They also are always willing to help us over the phone during an emergency, even for animals they don't see in their practice! They talked me through my rabbit's seizure, my dog's incident with the chocolate sheet cake, they even answer my mom's questions about the aging feline. They're always helpful, always quick with service, and always happy to see you. I love this clinic, and I'd drive across town just to go here. read more

My pup does great at the vet clinic but they take extra special care to create a "fear free" environment including calming pheromones in their rooms, a complimentary treat menu, and asking how she feels most comfortable being examined. She likes it best if I can help hold her and they're ok with that! My last clinic took my pets out of the room for treatments and never gave me the option of being present. I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED in this vet service. They are only concerned with making money, not treating sick animals. Due to moving accounts, I didn't have enough cash and no ATM card yet to make a payment until my husband came home late that day. My puppy was whining and crying in pain with a UTI but we were refused service. When I asked if a 2 month old pup could go long with a UTI, the receptionist said she had no idea, but it didn't matter if we couldn't make payment immediately. My husband and I retired early -- we have more than enough money to afford a pet, but she wouldn't even consider helping poor Maggie. Thank God for Back 2 Basics Vets and Dr. Laura down the street. They saw Maggie right away and treated her and even gave her something for the pain. I would definitely NOT refer anyone to Deer Grove Vet Clinic!!! read more
