I think the owner of this place might have an ego, and a bad temper. I tried to schedule appointments for my puppies. I am incredibly busy, and had trouble getting through. when I did, the receptionist appeared to be untrained and I sat on the phone while she tried to figure out their computer system. I finally hung up, frustrated since then, I received three messages from the owner, who finally reached me, only to provide me with a condescending lecture about being patient with her staff. I asked her to call me back when she connected to her system, and I hung up. I was not rude or mean appropriate in any way. I will find a vet who is concerned about providing efficient, well trained staff, not lecturing clients about who to act when such service is not provided. Find a vet who is professional and friendly to take care of your pets, not someone looking for a confrontation over nothing. Huge red flag here. read more

I booked in advance to make sure all three of my cats could have their check ups here and I was absolutely thrilled with how the staff here treated me and my babies! They accepted an appointment for all 3 at once and they have such different personalities, it was a great test of how wonderful the staff at Odyssey are! We love Dr. Susan Jeffrey and the CVT, Monica -- they were so gracious and treated my cats like they were their own. One cat tried to dart out the door, one cowered on a shelf and in her carrier, the other gained too much quarantine weight -- all were welcomed, vaccinated, and loved by Odyssey. read more

I had a great first experience here with Dr. Schwarz. I wanted to switch to a different veterinarian who has knowledge on geriatric care for dogs. After some researching and reading through Yelp reviews, I decided to try out Odyssey! My 11.5 year old beagle has been showing signs of cognitive decline, so I wanted to take her in. She also has been itching herself bald. Dr. Schwarz was very thorough, tested her skin for any issues, and determined that there was nothing irritating the skin, so she sent us home with antibiotics and anti-itch for starters. I loved that she sent a thorough email after the visit which included a questionnaire to assess whether my dog is experiencing cognitive decline. The vet technicians were super nice and good at listening to all our concerns. read more

I know this is probably usually a caring, professional vet clinic. But they have been so closed off during the pandemic. Difficult to communicate, difficult to get meds easily, etc. I Am comparing this to the fact that I have worked full time in a mask for the past year, serving grocery store customers in as normal a way as we could. I have not been able to Close Off Doors and have customers text or call me to get a sandwich. Moving anyway, but this place has been too much. read more

I had really high expectations of this place--it seemed great to start--nice people it seemed like, and they called me to let me know they'd be doing the procedure that I needed for my dog so I was excited to find them. My dog went in for several treatments--I work in health care and I really can't take off mid day for vet appts so they scheduled me for multiple 5:30 appts which was great. After the last appt I prepaid for the next 2 but on the way home got a call saying we actually didn't have anything scheduled. So I called to make some appts and was told "we're not doing that procedure at 5:30 anymore. The girls don't want to do it". And also that Saturday was a " really bad day" for doing that procedure. I found another facility that is offering the procedure at 5:30 so I scheduled with them, but then got a voicemail from odyssey saying that they were offering the 5:30 appts again. So I called and asked what they had available. I was put on hold so the clerk could check the schedule. She said they had a 5:00 tomorrow but like I said it's really not possible for me. So I said no, can I just get a refund. Well, no. She said she was being told that there are no partial refunds for this procedure. She asked if I could come in saturdays? I said sure but I thought you didn't do this on Saturday. Again on hold. She came back and said that her coworkers said they don't do them on saturdays but they would make an exception and give me a 10:00 appt on December 31st. I said well that's a ways off. She said yes but 5:30 appts are scheduled MONTHS ahead of time. I thought well that's pretty rich since 3 days ago you weren't offering them at all. I said ok. I'll take it. She continued...is there anything else I can do for you? Speaking to me like I've got a mental deficiency and need to be condescended to. I said no. Thank you click! A few minutes later I thought what's the point of this? They're giving me a ridiculous appt with no follow up and acting like this is a personal favor for the problem client. What?? You guys called me! You cancelled the 5:30 appts. You aren't refunding my money or providing the service it was supposed to cover. And one lousy treatment without follow up isn't going to help my dog or make me happy. I called back and got the clerk who'd originally told me no 5:30's then left the voicemail that they now have 5:30 appts. Cancel December 31 I said. This place was amazing.. The staff were so friendly and the Vets actually care. I came from Illinois.. Goofy has only been seen by one vet his entire life (9 years old in) so needless to say I was extremely nervous.. Everyone here was so caring and I didn't feel rushed which is exactly what I wanted. This place has consistently taken care of my cats since I moved back to Madison in 2015. Before that, they took care of a dog and cat I shared with my ex, and before that - I believe when they were called Cats Here Dogs There - they cared for my beloved family cat growing up. These are the best doctors, techs and office staff in the area. They're not cheap, which was never an issue until our girls needed surgery - but the comfort that comes with such a caring and competent staff is priceless. read more

I've taken my cats here for almost eight years for everything from routine to urgent care, and recommend them to all my friends and family with pets. Appointments are easy to schedule, everyone's super-friendly and knowledgable followup communication is a cinch (whether via phone or email). They're also quick to answer whatever follow-up (or just random) questions I have about my pets, and offer extended hours, which has been a boon with my somewhat erratic schedule. They're also very compassionate and straightforward about managing the best care for your pet when your budget is limited -- I've had clinics in the past who'd guilt trip me into all sorts of extra expenses, implying "or else I'm a bad cat-parent," even though my finances were clearly limited. The staff here were candid with treatment options for my pets, what could be put off and what couldn't, and setting up payment plans when necessary. read more

After another pleasant and thorough visit, I can't help but to sing their praises. Excellent, excellent veterinarians. We originally came here as an emergency one weekend and kept going back for our cats' regular care. They are extremely accommodating, getting an appointment is never a problem, and they treat your pets like they would their own. Friendly vets and vet techs are full of good advice and are approachable for any questions. The support staff is also excellent -- what other place do you get to go where they recognize you and your animals? My cats are less than enthusiastic with their visits, but I'm happy. Decided to go to Odyssey when we got our puppy because it was close to our place and had great reviews. So glad we did! You can tell all the employees love your pets and care about them. Our pup got sick and they got us in quick and gave us multiple follow up calls making sure our puppy was doing well. Would not hesitate to call them with any problem I had. We've been pleased with our (many) experiences at Odyssey over the past few years. We've seen several of the vets & have been happy with all of them but we tend to see Dr. Lewis the most often and she's been great. She's very thorough and knowledgeable & spends ample time with us. She always makes sure we've covered everything we want to, answered all questions, and never makes us feel rushed. Treatments (i.e., vaccines & blood draws) are often done in the back but if you'd prefer to be present & have them done in the room, that's fine, you can just request that (as I always do). I've never had trouble getting an appointment promptly and it's great that they have evening hours because then I don't have to take time off work. We are picky about our vets and it says something that we keep coming back here! read more

Exceptional care. We've been going to Odyssey since 2010 and can't say enough about our great experiences (cats). They've been very supportive through putting a cat down as they were closing to regular visits, teeth cleaning and esophageal tumors diagnosis. They provide a variety of treatment options to fit your family, pet health and pocket book. All staff has been super friendly and helpful (even with our jerky cat who is normally hooded at the vet). read more

Odyssey vet has been taking care of our dogs for 3 years. They are absolutely fantastic- a little pricey- but excellent care. They were both neutered here and when one had significant pain afterwords they found a way to get him medicine even when they were closed. They have evening hours which is a huge plus. Due to the death of my sister-in-law and hospitalization of her husband, their 3 kitties were left in a house without parents. Neighbors did come and visit and feed them, but they needed to be boarded until we came up with a better solution. We live in Milwaukee and they in the Madison area. They needed to have their vaccines updated before boarding. We weren't even sure we could catch them. My husband and I came in with no appointment and they were incredible!!! I am not from the Madison area, but traveled to have my recently adopted rescue dog assessed here because of the great reviews. My previous dog went to a vet in my area, but they were highly priced and always pushing me to buy unnecessary products I couldn't afford. The other vets in our area had month long waiting lists, whereas it was super easy to schedule an appointment at Odyssey. The staff here are wonderful, from the front desk to Dr. Schawrz (the vet we saw). They have a fenced in yard that my dog could play in while we were waiting, which he really enjoyed! Dr. Schwarz and all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Dr. Schawrz is very knowledgeable and the front desk staff and techs were sweet to my dog, you could tell they truly love animals. I am a single dog mom who recently graduated college, so I don't have a ton of money. Dr. Schawrz was understanding and helped me decide what tests were absolutely necessary for my dog so that I didn't have to spend a ton. I felt like the entire staff really cared about my dog, as they called and emailed to see how he was doing afterwards, and had me send them pictures of a rash that he had and helped recommend medications I could buy in my area. I will continue to make the drive to come to Odyssey as it has been the best vet I have been to thus far! I highly recommend it to anyone. read more

We were traveling through Madison on a cross country trip and our elderly dog became sick much faster than we anticipated. As we pulled into our hotel in the area, we knew that it was time to get to a vet. We were so lucky to have found Odyssey Veterinary Care and Dr. Schwarz and Tech Raquel. Both women were highly professional and extremely caring in our time of need. From the moment we walked into the door we could tell this was a well run office, staffed with people who can relate to what you are going through. We initially went to Odyssey after moving to Madison from out of state. Dr. Stokes and staff have taken very good care of our pup since our first appointment - especially after he became extremely sick - and they continue to be very caring when it comes to his needs and are always available to answer questions. They have great hours so I always know my pup will be well cared for, even when my schedule isn't very flexible. I took my dog to Odyssey from the time he was a puppy until he was two. We then relocated to Chicago and I've since been in denial about trying to find a vet as good as the ones at Odyssey! The vets here are great, and my dog would literally drag me into the office he was so excited about going here. We always felt so welcome, and they were so great about dealing with irrational first time puppy owners like me! Leaving your dog at a vet can always be a nerve racking thing, but I never felt worried when leaving him here. The vets and technicians always treated him as if he was their own pet. Upon my move they were also wonderful with working with me to get his vet records faxed/emailed to the new vet. I will sincerely miss this place! read more
