Learn to ride at Deerfield Farm, offering world class equine education to the greater Seattle area!
    Emily D.

After moving from the East coast I was looking for a farm to continue riding. I couldn't have found a more perfect barn for me than Deerfield. From the moment you walk onto the property you know you're in a community of horse people. The instructors are among the top I have ever worked with and have taken my riding ability so far in just the short amount of time I have been riding there. Their curriculum is absolutely world class and I am learning everything from how to ride, riding vocabulary, horsemanship, barn management and a whole lot more. I love hanging out at the barn, practicing yoga in the farm's yoga studio and eating absolutely delicious meals cooked in the main house. But above all, I love the horses, who are all impeccably trained and safe lesson horses. If you are looking to not just ride, but become a part of a family then start coming to Deerfield!

As a 65+ senior , who had never been on a horse until about 10 years ago, I started lessons at Deerfield 2+ years ago.

He is so positive and he is always introducing me to other people at the barn (mostly young adults/kids that ride at this barn). I met with a ton of instructors in the Snoqualmie Valley and I am so glad I chose Mt. Si Stables. I look forward to leasing my own horse here soon and spending more time with the Mt. Si crew.

I have had a lot of questions and a lot to learn about showing and formal riding. Tom has been a wealth of knowledge and patience and his life long love of horses is evident every time he steps in the barn. I have worked with 3 trainers over the past few years and have found Toms quiet but firm method to be very very successful with the Arabian/Saddlebred horse I am riding. Additionally, my 5 year old son who has been around horses all his life begged for lessons. Tom agreed to give him a half lesson and has been wonderful with my very talkative boy who spends at least half the time in the saddle telling the horse how much he loves her. It takes a patient and kind person to manage that. He trotted for the first time last week very nicely, is sitting properly and has a great position in the saddle. Amazing. This stable is not the newest, fancy place you can find but the facilities are always clean, secure and the horses are happy. (Frankly, all of the horses I have been around at the stable have had great manners etc.) I would suggest that anyone looking for a family friendly barn with a great expert trainer check out Mt Si Stables!

My teenage daughter and I both ride at Brackenhollow and absolutely love the community there. We…read moretransitioned from another barn where we felt the 'horse management' side of things was missing. At Brackenhollow, we've found exactly what we were looking for: real experiences with horsemanship and people who are happy to share their knowledge. A major highlight for my daughter is the Brackenhollow Pony Club, which offers an incredible extra curriculum. It covers everything from unmounted horse care and bandaging to rally prep, providing the deep technical knowledge that is so hard to find elsewhere. Not only have our riding skills improved under the guidance of incredibly kind and knowledgeable instructors, but we've also deepened our hands-on experience by working at the barn. The best part is that you get out what you put in - whether you want to be deeply involved in the 'gross and glorious' side of horse care or just enjoy your weekly ride, there's a place for you. You can be as involved as you want to be. The instructors are amazing, the students are supportive, and it is completely down-to-earth rather than overly competitive while also offering competition experience if desired (my daughter just started showing in jumper events last summer). We are so happy we found our home here!

Joanna and Duschka have had an immense amount of training from international experts and have impressive competition experience but are not pretentious. They give lessons to everyone from beginners to advanced competitors. They own a variety of horses of different sizes, colors, and breeds covering every level. Riders can also bring their own horse in for lessons. Before and after lessons, riders are taught how to groom, tack up and untack, and check their horse. Joanna and Duschka teach dressage, jumping, cross-country and eventing skills including training for competition and pony club ratings. I have been riding and taking lessons for over 10 years with Joanna and Duschka. I started as an adult having never really ridden as a kid and being a bit scared of horses. Starting with private lunge lessons I learned to balance properly enough to ride in group lessons. Soon I ended up taking riding twice a week and attended weeklong adult summer camp. Now I lease a horse at a neighboring barn and have weekly lessons at Brackenhollow. Lessons are not cheap but are great exercise that is well worth the money and much cheaper than having your own horse. I have seen many riders at Brackenhollow go from being timid or shy to become confident riders or competitors able to manage their horses even in difficult situations. Brackenhollow may not appear to be a fancy barn like others in the area but is a gem of a find near the Emerald City!

Seattle Farm is a privately owned 20-acre property, and I'm pretty sure it's the only farm within city limits. The place is beautifully maintained and feels like a hidden gem. No cows or chickens, but there are plenty of horses. We came during pumpkin season and paid $25, which covered both parking and admission. Big parking lot, easy access. At the barn you'll find several horses, and feeding them hay was a hit for both kids and adults. The darker horse was especially affectionate - kept rubbing its head against us, super sweet. You can also pay extra for horse/pony rides; they are all calm, well-trained, and come in various sizes. There's a food area with picnic tables where you can grab hotdogs and drinks. The pumpkin selection isn't as large as farms farther out, but still enough. It's great to see a place like this still operating in the city, and it's definitely worth supporting to help keep it going. I think they also host private events like birthday parties and weddings, and offer dedicated horseback-riding lessons - you'll need to call for details. Awesome family-friendly spot. We'll definitely be back next year!
