I've stayed on spider, clear and rest lakes but this is the best so far, the cabins are clean and well maintained, somewhat rustic due to the lack of a/c and TV, but hey that's what we come here for. The family that owns the resort sends us a Christmas letter every year to keep us updated on the happenings around town and they are always available to help guests out when needed around the resort. Included in the price of your cabin you get a very nice aluminum row boat and in case you don't have an engine or boat you brought with, outboard engines are available to rent at a fair and reasonable price to get you going around the lake. Wild rice is the perfect lake for a vacationing family because it is never crowded and due to the fact the local indian reservation owns 75 percent of the frontage on the lake it is always quiet with little to no boat traffic, great for skiing and water fishing. I definitely recommend this resort for families wanting a relaxing escape but also priced reasonably enough for any group of friends seeking a get away. Book early! Reservations sometimes fill up a year in advance and they have been in business since the 40's!

We attended a family wedding at the Red Crown Lodge recently. It was a lovely affair in a beautiful…read moresetting. But there were a number of flaws that fall short of a five star rating. The biggest downside was the setting of the ceremony. The lake in the background was stunning, but the seating was all a tilt. Not a single seat was level and the seats in the rear were lower than the seats in front. It was also a difficult venue for the elderly and infirm. If the couple selected this location I would excuse the venue, but as I walked around the grounds I didn't see a better setting for the number of guests in attendance. At least the setting for the dinner was level. And it was a tasty dinner. I don't know if the Red Crown kitchen provides the food or if it is catered in. I'm assuming it was prepared by the Red Crown staff so I'll critique it in my review. The dinner was an up north "surf & turf." The steak was tender and well seasoned. The seasoned crumbs on the walleye filet worked taste wise but were not as crisp as they should be (however probably as crisp as they could be when serving over a hundred plates). The fish itself was not over cooked or under cooked and therefore it was moist and flaky. The sides (potato and veggies) were well cooked and properly seasoned. It was certainly one of the best wedding dinners I've had lately--but keep in mind that Wisconsin is the home of "broasted" chicken wedding reception meals (and as a retired preacher I've lost count of how many times I've eaten greasy fried chicken). The other Red Crown amenities were also very nice. Drinks and hors d'oeuvres were served an a stunning lodge constructed with north woods logs and timbers. The bartenders were capable and able to mix anything you asked for. The Red Crown offers several signature drinks including a unique "old fashioned" that my wife reports was "very good." I can be picky with my reviews and I'm stingy with my stars, but I have to conclude be saying that north of the 45° parallel in Wisconsin, the Red Crown is as good as it gets.

The grounds were well kept with a lot of activities to do just within the grounds itself. The cabin we stayed in had a great view of the lake and a screened in porch, which was great to relax on. Our cabin had a kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, living room area and was very clean and comfortable. The owners were also very personable and helpful with resort information as well as area information. Would definitely return to this resort.

Dealing with Becca Bartling is a nightmare. She is rude and probably the most inhospitable person…read morewe have ever had to deal with. We have stayed at MANY rental properties and have never had any issues. We even stayed at Brick House last summer and came again despite her despicable personality. This year, we stayed again, despite being nervous about not living up to Becca's standards, while on vacation. We purposefully split our family time up so to adhere to the 11 person rule at all times. My parents (2 people) and brother (1 person) stayed the entire week. My sister and her family stayed from Thursday and left sunday (total of 5 people), so 8 people total. My family then arrived Sunday evening (2 adults, 3 kids, and 1 infant), so a total of 5 adults, 3 kids, and 1 infant (9 people). We were accused of arriving too early on the first day - which was a lie. The occupants stayed at Voss's until 4pm to adhere to her rules, which can be confirmed by Voss's. We were accused of leaving an oily stain on one of the bed comforters or sheets and a small blood stain on another sheet. I could literally get that out in my sleep. Isn't that what the cleaning crew is for? I am a mother of 4 and can get multiple stains out of literally anything. We made sure to wipe make up off without using any of their towels, because God forbid the towels get makeup on them. You'll never hear the end of it and it is a very STRICT rule. We were also accused of leaving the place a mess. We went through the entire house for almost 2 hours cleaning, sweeping, wiping down counters, tables, etc. It still was not up to Becca Bartling's standards. She accused us of having pets on the property, when we paid $500 for pet sitters to watch our fury family members at our home in Chicago. She also has her strict rules posted all over the house. One of which stated to strip the beds and put the sheets in the washer before leaving, we did so, but apparently that was wrong and poor Becca had to spend time separating them. This specific rule was posted on the refrigerator in a laminated paper. This house is beautiful, unfortunately the owner and manager, Becca, is nasty. We will never come back. It is a shame such a beautiful home and location is managed and owned by such an ugly person. I am sure Ms. Bartling will have a lot to say about this review. Including the false the statements, "the place was left filthy", "there were stains on the sheets", "we had to hire more people to clean and it took 7 hours", etc. I can't wait for your response, Ms. Bartling. She also states, "if you are going to leave less than a five star review to contact her first". Which is why they probably have only 8 reviews on Trip Advisor and 2 reviews on here. However, her demeanor on the phone discussing this deserves people to know who you are dealing with when you are paying a PREMIUM price for what should be a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. The unfair accusations when we spent everyday taking care of and cleaning the house on vacation as to keep Ms. Bartling happy is not fair and definitely not something we would ever return to or visit again.
