Once I was old enough to stop in for a drink I realized how much of a good time the place really was. The locals that hang out there are all typical Cheeseheads, and I mean that as a compliment. They're some of the friendliest people you'll meet, as long as the Packers aren't losing. As prices go, the place is really cheap. You can grab a cold beer and some truly excellent food for next to nothing, and scarf it down while shooting a game of pool. The people that run the place are really sweet and accommodating. I don't care how much wilderness and serenity I'm looking for, I can't head up to Boulder without hanging out at the Deer Path.

A generous amount of lean, tender, flavorful corned beef with ample kraut and just the right amount of dressing. The homemade chips were a bit bland and half were limp and greasy. To be fair, those that were properly fried to which a dash of salt was added were quite good. The soup was outstanding. Chock-o-block with chewy, earthy mushrooms in a savory broth with a hint of Guinness. I wished I'd ordered a bowl. Everyone else was more than happy with their choices. Prices are much lower than one would pay for food of this quality and quantity in Minneapolis or Chicago. A very solid choice for dining in this neck of the woods.

To me it seemed to be a hybrid "dive-bar-up-north-tavern" with all the requisite furnishings from vinyl upholstered bar stools to Green Bay Packers posters and other "up north kitsch." But -- we came for the beer. And the beer was not bad. I had a five beer flight, while my non-driving companion tried several more of the twelve selections on tap. The flavor profile of each selection was spot on. The wheat beer was wheaty, the stout was thick, dark and chewy, the Oktoberfest evoked visions of singing "Ein Prosit" in München. My other selections were satisfactory and my companion enjoyed his as well. With the proliferation of micro-breweries nationwide it's virtually impossible to visit all of them. And it's equally difficult to stand out from the crowd (and get four or five stars from me). But I can recommend stopping here for some beer and checking one more microbrew tap room off your list.

After a few minutes of trying to get attention the bartender told us to sit anywhere but to order at the bar. The menu on the tables wasn't close to what we had seen online which was a bummer. We also noticed a good amount of other guests clearly waiting for their food, and frankly looking a little annoyed. We tried to go up and order drinks but after few minutes of waiting decided this wasn't going to be a good choice for us. The airflow was not good for a hot night, and the bar smelled badly of old grease. This spot is definitely better suited for just drinks for anyone in no rush at all.
