A casual, no frills Irish themed pub in the great North woods. It works. Recently, six of us staying at a nearby cabin stopped in for a weekday lunch. An interior with an abundance of green and an assortment of items from the Emerald Isle might not prompt one to shout "Erin go Bragh!" But it does seem to be a heartfelt, agreeable homage to the old country. We found a space for six in the back and were promptly greeted by a cheerful server who took our drink orders leaving us to peruse the menu. I chose the Reuben (side of chips) and added a cup of mushroom soup. Others opted for the hot ham & cheese (x2), BLT (x2) and a bowl of chili. My sandwich on marble rye was excellent. A generous amount of lean, tender, flavorful corned beef with ample kraut and just the right amount of dressing. The homemade chips were a bit bland and half were limp and greasy. To be fair, those that were properly fried to which a dash of salt was added were quite good. The soup was outstanding. Chock-o-block with chewy, earthy mushrooms in a savory broth with a hint of Guinness. I wished I'd ordered a bowl. Everyone else was more than happy with their choices. Prices are much lower than one would pay for food of this quality and quantity in Minneapolis or Chicago. A very solid choice for dining in this neck of the woods. read more

When are these clowns up in this area of Northern Wisconsin going to get their act together don't go here. Mayonnaise is much more professional. Maggie's is much more professional. This Irish Pub was a gem in the area. The local customers and Badger fans were super friendly and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. There is a lot of selection of beers especially my favorite the Spotted Cow beer. The food was flavorful, I ordered the Pot Roast dinner special which came with Pot Roast that was seasoned well and cooked well especially for pub food. The service was quick and friendly. My decision for a birthday dinner and the food was good as far as fish fries go in the northwoods. Our server, Phil, not so much. Slow in serving drinks, then he started to walk away without taking my order. Then he had the nerve to say the bill was mine to pay, because I sat at the head of the table. Never even asked about special occasion or any small talk at all. He never knew it was my birthday, but managed to stick me with the bill for 7 people. We stopped in for a late lunch after a day of leaf peeping. And it was great. The ladies were so nice!! And that was a huge change to what we were experiencing in Manitowish Waters. Even the patrons were friendly. I sneezed and everyone in the place said 'bless you'. We had the Shepard's Pie and Chicken Bacon ranch wrap. Everything was good. Beer was cold. I'm guessing this place is hoping when the summer crowd is there. It was our server's first day too. She was so cute! She did a great job! This was one of the few places that we can say was welcoming and very fun. Stop on by!! ***While wrapping up our lunch, a large group came in. They were having a great time, came in, said hi to us, and were very friendly. They were telling the servers about a terrible experience they just had at another local establishment that made them get up and walk out. First, for the positive. Great ambience! Indoor and outdoor bar. Great selections of beers. Came for the fish fry and was truly disappointed. Fried and baked haddock was our choice. Tasteless batter, tough batter. Tasteless fish. Grease on plate. Obviously oil not hot enough. Coleslaw was store bought and 3 forkfuls. Potatoes salad was homemade but no onion, only celery and mayonnaise. Tasteless. No rye bread. What is a fish fry without rye bread. No bread at all! Side dish was canned beans. I have been visiting this place since it opened, and always enjoyed it--- not this summer. Most all staff are just "angry"!!! The owner is so nice and I hope he reads this to know how his customers are getting treated. We went the other day and wanted to sit outside; saw the sign to check in with the hostess, so I went in to try to find the hostess, no where to be found. Asked the bartender (short, blond hair) if we could sit outside. She said "maybe". WHAT??? She then says to me, "if you don't check in with me, we aren't going to serve you". Didn't I just check in with you???? (This should have been my first clue to just leave) We ordered lunch and a few drinks and again, we've been coming here for a few years..... food is NOT the same. Much more low quality than before! My husband and I shared a sandwich and I then asked if I could get an extra basket: the server says "can't you just use the appetizer plate?" Wow! Completely caught me off guard. Then we get our bill, and the prices are way more on the bill then in the menu! At this point I wasn't going to say a word. I paid my bill, and left. So this is my 3rd time here 1st time waited and hour for my food. Fish fry First batch was soggy.2nd was better. People next to me came in B4 me and still had no been served. On couple left cause there kid was having a fit. 2nd time walked in at 845. Waited s few minutes and told we stop serving food at 9. It's 845. Your out of luck 3rd Visit. Called ahead of time. We stop serving at nine and told better get here by 8:50. Got there at 8:30. Both of us ordered the ACUE fish fry. We had not eaten all day. Got are food and told after 8:30 you can't order ACUE fish fry so we gave you a few xtra pieces. So I asked are you gonna charge me for ACUE. Why yes I am. I'm like ok. Mind you the ACUE fish fry here is $17.99 a person. My girl asks if she could get a salad instead of fries & the girl said yes no problem. Recieved bill with a $2.00 add on for the salad. Guy next to me tells me he got the walleye fish fry and was full of bones and he was not happy Place is full of itself cause it's crowded with snowmobile folks. Terrible service, and by that I mean NONE. Don't be fooled by the name this is NO Irish restaurant. They have three Irish items on the menu and the rest is just greasy bar food. We grabbed a table by the bar but got no service...I mean none. After waiting some 15 minutes and after watching a waitress give menus and get drink orders from a table of 8 sitting next to us, and yes we were there waiting before they had arrived, we got up and walked out. This place is fantastic. Toni was the hostess and was so great to us. Went out of her way to seat us during a VERY busy week and time of evening. They warned us the kitchen was a little backed up but our food actually came out faster than expected. The service was awesome. The food was awesome. The mushroom soup is amazing and best potato skins ever. We have been back twice more in the 2 weeks we were here in WI. I can't say enough about it. Our favorite restaurant up here closed about two years ago, and I think we have found our new favorite! read more

My wife and I came to the Shillelagh last night for their grand opening party and had a wonderful time. The Shillelagh had a big top tent setup for the occasion with live music. Outside they had a bartender selling drinks and food (corned beef sandwiches, dogs/brats) all were very reasonably priced. The owners have done extensive remodeling on the front and back exterior as well as the interior of the building and it makes a huge difference. Inside the bar, the lighting fixtures, tables and chairs are all new. They also have some nice HD tv's showing sports (like the current World Cup). Behind the bar (outside) is a deck that overlooks the new pond and fountain that they installed. I'm assuming you will eventually be able to drink/dine out there. We just came in for a few drinks and greatly enjoyed our selves. The bartenders were all very friendly and knowledgeable, and drink prices were very reasonable. We're looking forward to returning to try out the menu. They also now take credit card, though with a $20 minimum. It'd be great to see this lowered to $10-$15 range, but that's a minor quibble. A truly amazing atmosphere which had a guy singing many classic country and folk tunes (whole place ended up singing Sweet Caroline). The food was also very good. I ended up getting the pulled pork sandwich and it was absolutely what a pulled pork sandwich should be. The food my family had was also good though to roast beef I had decided to try from my father had a very odd sauce on it. Tried this place recently, on a Tuesday it was one of the few open restaurants in MW. Inside, the bar was busy and no social distancing in place, and staff not in masks at all. Obviously it's difficult to be a bar patron and mask up. But some establishments require their staff to do so. Would have liked to see that but the general feeling in MW is that Corona doesn't exist. Now for the food. Ordered a Shepherd's Pie. The mashed potatoes were definitely old and dried out. May even have been one of those dehydrated/rehydrated potato products. I could tell the Pie had been prepackaged in a frig or freezer for some time. Gravy was definitely from a jar. I wouldn't go here again. read more

Seven of us had dinner here on a Thursday night, and we arrived just as the kitchen was about to close - they were kind enough to keep it open to cook us dinner. Worse North woods experience EVER!!! We arrived at6:pm, which is early for us. Not too crowded but LOUD band. Fun, entertaining. My husband ordered drink at bar until we could be seated. We were seated quickly, YAY. Food being served looked great. Waited 30 minutes. NO ONE came to table. We did have our one cocktail. Husband flagged hostess twice, waitress would not make eye contact. Still nothing! plays American song, tells everyone to stand or get out, husband stands....45 minutes later, i say we are out of here! Will not go back! Food may be good but have no idea. The Reuben is amazing! Corned beef is very tender, bread is delicious and the sauerkraut is perfect. Our son enjoyed the pizza a lot - he is a pizza snob from Chicago suburbs, and declared it "actually pretty good"! Saturday night pot roast special was also a hit, as was the Oreo ice cream cake. The beer flights are a great way to sample - and at $10 for 6, they were very generous pours! Enjoyed the live entertainment and the photo slide show. It is obvious the place is loved and there's always a good time being had. We will be back for sure. read more
