I had a test done that said I had Carpul tunnel. I was referred to Dr Deffer. I had never seen him before so I was a little nervous but he was very nice and explained to me that I needed surgery and what to expect after the surgery was done. I felt very comfortable with him doing the surgery. I would recommend him. I will leave another review after the surgery as well. read more

His staff is OUTSTANDING, very friendly, and I felt comfortable right away. It's been 3 weeks now and my rotator cuff is improving each day. Dr. Welchlin's record speaks for it's self. If I need another surgery in his field, he will be my 1st choice. I walked out of the surgery on my own 3 hours later with NO PAIN. I doctored at the Mayo for 25 years, the best in the world. Specialty Care was as good as the Mayo.

I was a Trauma nurse coast to coast working in major trauma centers as a RN for 13 years and have advanced knowledge and training in anatomy, physiology, treatments, and a broad spectrum of different doctors modalities for treatment. That being said, extreme sports were always in my life and I have had multiple injuries including broken bones, sprains, strains, multiple back fractures, injectiins, and a back surgery. Needless to say I know what works for me and what doesn't work. I went to Orthopedics PC in Spencer, IA and was seen by Dr. Pruitt for a chronic reoccurring issue that will not be resolved unless a fusion is performed and usually doesn't exacerbate unless something major happens. Was evaluated and diagnosed with x rays and no physical exam. Was treated with a medical device but was in severe pain. Attempted to explain to the doctor about injuries upon which he looked at me like I had no idea about what I was talking about. Given 4 different persciptions for the pain, none of which are directed for pain and the last was a medication I had tried many times before with no relief. Tried to explain what had worked for me in the past, which my last exacerbation was 5 years ago, and was ignored. Ended up in the ER after calling the doctors office due to inadequate pain control and was told that they couldnt do anything for me and that I would have to visit the ER. I was in severe pain and hadn't slept in days. Ended up missing DAYS from work because of lack of treatment and had to apply for FMLA (family Medical leave act) planning for the worst this time because we had talked about a spinal fusion. Ended up at Spencer Hospital at which time was given the treatment that had worked for me in the past. A big thank you and kudos to the doctor on duty for actually listening to me (can't stress this enough that Spencer Hospital and the doctor on duty were excellent). Longer story shorter, the paperwork was not filled out correctly and it took 5 phone calls to get it done correctly because the medical paperwork person was "away" and was almost denied FMLA due to to long of a time frame. Ended up STILL getting an absence and a tardy because they STILL have the paperwork wrong, late, and now they are saying they will not cover the tardy and absence because they had not seen me those days. So, to sum things up; they left me in agony with back pain after multiple calls, they have cost me a absence and a tardy at work possibly costing me a promotion I had been after, added to the cost of both a doctor's visit AND an Emergency room visit, and the office staff is rude and incompetent. I had heard bad things about this business before but I didn't want to believe it. Well, believe it. I have my medical records and am never going back to this doctor and am considering legal counsel. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUISNESS.

Where do you get that kind of treatment that often? In two weeks the only impact I have from the surgery is that my hair is short on my left knee and the need to ice down at night. Incredible professionalism, courteous and respectful service, accommodating scheduling, and great personal attention. And, over a year of pain - gone. Thank you!

The next time you see me, I can show you the surgical scars. Over the years, I also remember: - Visiting my sick friend (Brian Henry) who died too young of Leukemia. - Selling copies of the Des Moines Register to patients at 6 AM in the morning. - Trying to stay out of the way of the strict German Nuns who patrolled the hospital hallways as I was delivering those papers. I also remember a chance meeting with the resident Hospital Priest (when they had one) and thinking that he was a pretty cool guy. The Hospital property has expanded over the years, and over houses of which some of my friends lived. I wander by if I'm in town, check on their progress, and wonder how my own health would have been taken care of if I had decided to stay in Estherville. Probably pretty well.

I was in town from Minneapolis and my hamstring injury was bothering me, plus I wanted to have some…read moretime away from the kids. I call Joy and she call me back within two hours and we set something up. She is very calm and sweet. She took time to figure out exactly what I wanted. I asked for a combination of Reiki and massage so I never knew quite what she would be doing which was nice. The first time she touched my feet it was like I was given a drug in surgery, so relaxing. She let me pick an essential oil to use, I chose sandalwood Young Living. She also gave me a choice of what kind of massage oil. She even gave me a choice of what music! She asked multiple times whether the pressure was OK and it was good, I asked for deep pressure. She has very slow tempo which I've never experienced before, but it was nice. I would say she leans more to the relaxation than therapeutic massage. She didn't spend as much time on my injury as I would've expected at a chiropractic massage establishment, but it was very relaxing. I was in the moment a the whole 90 minutes (rather than obsessing about the past or the future as per typical.) If we ever come back to this resort area, I'll definitely go back to Joy!
