My doctor is better than yours! Dr. Nicola Okafor is an exceptional physician at the Henry Ford Health Ascension Deighton Family Practice. This is a large health care practice located on the fifth floor in Suite 500. I have been receiving care here for decades. When my primary care doctor retired, I asked her to leave me in good hands and that she did. My office experience has always been good for my family and I. I never feel rushed and have plenty of time to have a dialogue about all of my health concerns. I am not just a number. The front desk staff, nurses, and formerly the phlebotomist are all so attentive and professional. Unfortunately, the phlebotomy services have now been consolidated to the first floor lab. The staff always works well coordinating my prescription refills with my chosen pharmacy to ensure that I don't run out. The MyChart services is an excellent way to communicate with my doctor. It easily accessible through an app in the palm of my hand. It also contains my lab results, discharge documents and procedure reports. There is valet and plenty of self-parking available. There is also a pharmacy and ATM on the 1st floor. read more

Just left the doctors office and the reviews about it are very much true. When I walked in I said Good Morning to the young lady at the front desk. She did not say anything back so I did not think she heard me until she asked for my last name. RUDE! I sat in this office for 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment time only to be told that the doctor would not see me due to having "meetings" and was asked if I could stay another 2 hours to be seen by somebody else. Then for the woman to lie and say that she called me to reschedule even though I talked to the other rude young woman at the front desk yesterday regarding my insurance. HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL! Appointments are NEVER on time! Just wait till you have to call for an appointment...ugh...days later you finally get a response from them. They are TERRIBLE at keeping your medical records!! If you need to see them in a crisis...forget it...2 months for an appointment. Doctors come & go! Terrible attitude at the desk!! Go anywhere else but HERE! I was between 1-2 stars. I had a similar experience to Erin. I came in for my newborn's first appt. The office was standard urban family practice. Adults and children were both there. First we were told we had to wait 30 minutes. That was really 1 hour. The nurse was nice at first but then started giving me attitude when we were measuring the baby. She kept telling me to hold the baby's head against the board to measure her. I kept telling her the head was touching the board. She weighed her with the gown on, and I asked her how much the gown weighed, and she snapped at me "we didn't weigh the gown." Actually, she definitely did weigh the gown without zeroing the scale. She just seemed ignorant and insecure in her pediatric abilities. After in the room, we waited another 45 minutes before the doctor came in. He was polite, but a graduating senior resident. The attending never saw us. When it was time to check out, we couldn't make an appt. cause the staff had all left. We were the last people to be seen, though we had an appt. and we had a brand new born baby. Maybe cause the nurse thought i was giving her attitude? She didn't know I'm also a medical resident. They were my primary care physicians for seven years. I was never totally satisfied with this office and this year I switched to a new physician. I should of switched years ago Some of the doctors were excellent others ok. The average wait time on the phone is 20 minutes. The average wait time in the waiting room was 1 hour. The average wait time once in the doctors room was 1.25 hours. The average time to get an appointment was 2 months - by that time there was no longer a need to have an appointment. The office staff often seemed to be frazzled and confused. Once they came in and drew blood -- I asked are you sure you have the right patient? They insisted I was, and took blood -- about 20 minutes later the doctor came in and I asked him why he had ordered blood tests- he excused himself and when he returned he apologized saying they had taken blood from the wrong patient. On two separate occasions they totally lost all of my records. Once they blamed on computer systems upgrade, the other they offered no explanation -- they seemed to think I was imagining being a patient. You must be vigilant as they add on charges for things you did not ask for or need. They once charged me $50 for an eye exam. The only thing they did was have me read an eye chart at the end of a hallway. The next time I refused to take the "eye exam". It had no benefit as I have full yearly eye exam with the optometrist-which BTW was the same price as the fake eye exam. read more

When I moved near Southfield I chose Deighton Family Practice in St. John Providence to by my primary care doctor. I had a couple of appointments with them--one to get an Rx prescribed, one when I broke a toe, and one for an annual physical. For the first the wait wasn't terribly long, but when I described what I needed it seemed like she was taking a guess as to what Rx would be best for my issue. I won't go into more detail than that for privacy reasons, but I tried out the medication, it didn't work after a couple of months, so I decided to stop taking it and see a specialist with more knowledge of the subject. I don't like taking prescriptions in the first place so when I do I want them to be the right thing for me and not just a guess. So my second appointment was for a broken toe, I had some bruising on my foot so decided I would go in and make sure there wasn't a foot bone broken, too. I had an appointment, which took over 20 minutes to make on the phone as I was on hold forever, and when I arrived I waited over an hour to be seen. I was told while I was waiting that the doctor was "kind of slow." While I was there I made an appointment for my physical two months in advance--that's the earliest they had available. When I finally came for my physical, I was on time and they took me right in. Then they did the pre-visit stuff like taking blood pressure, weight, etc. and told me to get into a gown. I then waited for over an HOUR AND A HALF, freezing, with nobody updating me on what was going on. At one point I went out into the hallway to grab a nurse and ask, *in my gown.* I was told she was with the previous patient and that I was next. A good twenty five minutes later no doctor had showed up so I got dressed and went to check out. Of course a minute after I was at the desk the doctor came and apologized and said "Well I'm ready now." I said I didn't have 3 hours for a physical and that I was taking my records and leaving. I was so fed up by that point that I just wanted to get out, which I did, and I will be choosing another doctor now. They clearly don't have the capacity for new patients here, or even the patients they currently have, and shouldn't be taking on more. read more

Deighton Family Practice has disappointed me on several occasions. #1. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Patricia Baker office I stayed on the phone for 45 minutes waiting for someone to answer. #2. I schedule an appointment for my mother ears to be checked, she asked questions about her medications and listened to mama complain about her stomach again, and asked was there anything else? I said we made this appointment for her ears to be checked she said it wasn't on her schedule. I had to make another appointment. #3. Another appointment same questions no results. #4. Appointment for the flu shot, after coming in for the flu shot and a refill on a rx (hopefully they called the script in) the nurse say we tried to contact you but no answer, of they have my cell # listed but they didn't call it. NO VACCINE..wasted trip. #5. The nurse that was going to administer the flu shot was a fast talker, and giving off negative vibes she sent me down to the pharmacy for the shot and of course they didn't have the vaccine either. Overall I am so disappointed that doctors have no compassion or empathy for their elderly patients who depend on them and think the world of them I am not please at all Deighton Family Practice. Deighton Family Practice never answers the telephone. It is ridiculous I call once a year to schedule an annual appointment and I am on hold for at least 30 minutes. It is easier for me to get in my car drive there and stand at the receptionist window to make an appointment. They also over book their appointments so when you go in expect to wait at least 3 hours to be seen. read more

Do not THINK of using this practice. It will actually be a hazard to your health. The stress of trying to make appointments, get prescription refills, attempt to actually get through on the phone, deal with their online portal, and etc, and etc. will actually take years off your life. If you are not outright killed because you couldn't get through to talk to anyone when you had an urgent issue going on, or they unexpectedly wouldn't allow your pharmacy to refill your LIFE NECESSARY medication, and you couldn't get through to anybody to ask why or to try to straighten it out. These are not isolated incidents, this is unfortunately the way they operate ALL THE TIME. I actually love my doctor; he is wonderful; but I am going to have to give him up and find someone else because this practice is the absolute worst. read more

Before you consider using the Deighton family practice ask yourself, do you have 20 minutes to waste every time you need to make an appointment. Do you want the doctors support staff to care about your needs. The staff is terrible they don't care about your needs nor do they seem to care that you have medical problems. They say 36 hours to fill your script and usually it takes longer up to 5/days we have waited. My husband ended up in emergency because of their lack of not caring and the length of time it took for his script to be filled. The office procedures are set-up for their convenience not the patient. You are better off at another clinic that has more up-to-date procedures that put the patient first. read more

I've read the previously posted reviews and felt the necessity to share that my entire family belongs to this practice and has for many, many years. Fortunately, for the benefit of all Americans, many new patients flooded their system after the Affordable Health Care Act took effect. But once they developed a new system, we experienced fewer issues. The doctors are caring and thorough. That is why it may take more time than expected for some appointments. In our experience, this level of care was the reason a life-threatening condition, which could have been easily overlooked without such attention to detail, was discovered and promptly treated. Yes, the wait on the phone to talk with an appointment secretary is excessive (can be up to 20 minutes). Yes, there is often a wait once you arrive for a scheduled appointment. But, I'm in no rush to change my residency to Heaven! So, I'm practicing patience with the team at Deighton Family Practice. read more

If I could leave a negative I would. I am hoping to leave this faux practice as soon as possible. The doctor, Kamran Zakaria is rude and does not listen at all to his patients. The office manager has not called me back in two weeks to address the issues that we were discussing, in fact; she seems to be avoiding me. This doctor and office actually made me cry, being a chronic pain patient is not what this doctor understands. They give you the number for half dead or undead specialist and then tell you to find the doctors yourself. Useless facility when it comes to healthcare. I hope to leave St. Providence in general and if I have to go to Ann Arbor I would rather do that than be taken care of by rude, incompetent, unprofessional parasites. Absolutely disgusted. St. John's hospital even blocked me on Twitter when I complained about their emergency room and the ombudsman, which I paged; actually insulted me and then did not address my issue. I will be calling the national service I this facility because they are violating patient rights in that regard. Think about that, Ill public. If you have a problem with St. John's or providence hospital, even the ombudsman is ineffective! This hospital is so ghetto as are all hospitals in Detroit. Do yourself a favor and drive to nicer areas where you will get your patient rights respected. In fact, after a visit to the emergency room where I wanted to talk to the ombudsman because of inadequate treatment, instead of getting the official for me, the nurse calmly stated that security could help me in that regard. Like I said ghetto!! Look at that, complain and every effort is made to make sure we know that providence St. John's hospital is anything but that. They are Hells Hustle. read more

I relocated to Detroit and felt it would be easier to come back to this practice. However sitting on the phone 6 minutes at this point is bringing back memories of long waits, no appointment available. I was like my doctors, but I don't think it is worth it. I will call elsewhere read more

I've been coming to this doctor office since I was a child. The reason I give it a 1 is because EVERY TIME I try to call to book an appointment I'm on hold for 30 mins before a live person comes to the phone. That's just ridiculous and it's not just one or two times it's every time I call! read more
