I've been to a couple of other DeKalb Library branches, but this Brookhaven one is the most compact…read moreone I've visited. It feels cramped and tight. There is a downstairs, but I didn't get to scope it out. An old man kept staring at me. And a woman's phone kept going off. Aside from the questionable patrons, the employees are nothing but helpful and welcoming. There's parking in the front (entrance off of Sylvan Circle) as well as in the back of the building.

After finally registering for a Dekalb County library card, I was excited to check out some of the…read moredifferent branches. The Brookhaven Library is located next to my dentist, so I stopped in on my way out. This location is tiny! It's almost tiny enough to be cute, but seems to lack the resources that larger branches have. The parking is pretty inconvenient since, well, it's so small. And the one way parking lot makes in annoying to have to enter and exit the corner lot, especially if there's traffic. I felt a little uncomfortable with the few homeless people loitering outside. But maybe that's just my own problem. The struggle of being close to a Marta station, maybe? Speaking of which, this location is a brief walk from the Brookhaven Marta Station. If I ever see a book or movie that I want from Brookhaven, I may just request it online to be shipped to Dunwoody so I can avoid this library in the future.

I'm generally a fan of all things library. This is a good location to stop off, grab some wifi,…read morewrite a few emails, and get on with your day. I do notice that it's not exactly the quietest library in the world. I've seen people come out of the meeting room on the phone, and then stand in the actual library to spare the meeting room the noise from their call. Some street folks seem to to ubiquitously occupy space at the computer terminals. I've never seen an empty terminal there. That being said, there is still wifi, and I've never really had a problem getting to an outlet if I need one. And the staff have been really helpful to me. It's clear families come here and there is an ongoing community outreach thing that touches a lot of people.

Doraville Library is small, but it's part of the Dekalb Library system, so if the book you want isn't here, you can have it transferred here from another branch- or you can go to the other branch, your D-vile Library card is good at any Dekalb Library. They have a lot of DVDs too, so skip Redbox and Netflix and utilize the public service you support with your taxes. I don't think this location is ideal for studying or working. It's very small, so it's like sitting in a living room with a bunch of people. A lot of homeless people patronize American libraries; it's a free, climate controlled place to be that won't get mad at you for loitering. The two closest libraries to this one are more comfortable for study and work- Chamblee and Embry Hills. You can find semi- private nooks and niches to settle in to at those. Decatur is the biggest branch in the Dekalb County library system. It's nice, but had a weak wifi connection last time I checked. Lots of events at these libraries- check the flyers and the website.

I've been coming to this wonderful, locally owned business for 30 years…read more They have all the things you're looking for: crystals, incense, books, jewelry, tarot decks, candler, herbs, Florida Water, wish paper, oils, holiday gifts, meditation bells, cards, and KITTIES! They have a few shop cats that are super cute and friendly. They do professional tarot and psychic readings here. They have multiple readers to choose from. They also have a lot of fun events. Look at their calendar to see what's coming up. I went to a tarot readers group years ago where we practiced reading for one another and that was a lot of fun! I hope to see many more years from this great store! Go check it out!

The parking lot is on a kind of weird hill but there's plenty of parking spots. The front door of the store opens to a small lobby with a cashier/desk, but the store is actually very large. We were greeted at both the front entrance and when we were in the jewelry/rock room. This is called a bookstore but it's really much more. The selection of books is vast and niche at the same time. I picked up a little astrology book I'm very excited to get into. There is a huge and stunning wall of rocks and gems you can self-service with a variety of types, shapes, finishes and priced at a very accessible level. I picked out several different rocks from the wall. They also have jewelry, candles, accessories, I can't even begin to list everything available here. The best part is the store cats. They are beauty, they are grace and I love them. Also wonderful the Sagittarius that rang up my purchases. I can't wait to come back and visit with my best friend again! Thank you Phoenix & Dragon!

This is quite the hidden gem of a bookstore in Atlanta! This place feels very cozy and calming. There are countless books throughout the entire store sorted by genres. They even have a downstairs area filled with additional books as well as periodicals and magazines. The store almost transports you back in time, because there are sooooo many older and vintage copies of books. They even have some signed books for sale too! I saw a Dr. Seuss booked that was signed by the man himself...pretty cool if I do say so myself! The signed copies vary, but definitely take a look when you're there! It would make a super cool gift for someone. Another cool thing, is that they have 2 store cats! You will most likely find them by the front desk with the employees. One was napping when I came and the other was sitting right by the desk. The books all vary in price. It kinda just depends on what you get. I'll definitely be back in the future to take a further look!

I went to the Chamblee Police Station for a police ride-along. The process began with an email. I…read moreemailed the Police Department and my inquiry about ride-alongs was forwarded to the Assistant. Chief. He responded back to me via email pretty promptly and provided me with the forms that I needed to get the ball rolling. The first set of forms is to authorize a background check. The next set consists of release and permission waivers. Once the paperwork clears, the department then contacts you via email to schedule your ride time. Once your requested time is approved you report to the police department at the approved time. The typical ride-along lasts for 4 hours. When I reported to the designated check-in area on my scheduled date and time, I was asked to be seated until the Supervisor on duty came out with my assigned ride-along officer and further instruction. In about 2 minutes (or less) I was greeted by 3 officers; one of which was the officer that I was assigned to ride with, Officer Hidalgo. Before leaving the station, one of the three officers, Lieutenant Waasdorp, briefly went over some basic safety rules and instructions and then Officer Hidalgo and I were off. I rode with Officer Hidalgo as he responded to a couple of calls until he was called back to the station to be reassigned to another incident that required his assistance. I was then assigned to Officer Quarless. Both Officers Hidalgo & Quarless were GREAT! They did an excellent job explaining the process to me (what the radio call codes mean, what the incident reports entail, some of the procedures followed for specific types of calls) as I observed the way that they responded to the various situations that came up. They also were very thorough in answering questions that I had as I observed, and about things in general as a community resident. I really enjoyed this experience. I've always had a great appreciation for what the police do day-to-day to keep our communities safe that we as citizens sometimes take for granted. After this experience, I have an even greater understanding and appreciation of what a 'day in the life' of a cop in the field actually looks like. In today's climate of strained police and community relations due to a seemingly overwhelming amount of reports of police brutality, unjustified shootings, etc., it was refreshing to see firsthand that there are still good cops out there who truly just want to protect and serve in hopes that their efforts make a difference in the community. More importantly, (at least based on my interactions with the police in general and with MY local police department) I feel confident that these 'good' cops out-number the 'bad' ones. All in all, I appreciate that the department made my ride-along request a relatively simple and swift process to complete, and my experience an overall enjoyable and informative one. Thank you Assistant Chief Beller, Lieutenant Waasdorp, Officer Hidalgo, and Officer Quarless for taking the time out to educate and for getting me out and back safely!

I am writing this review after an extremely frustrating experience attempting to report what I…read morebelieve was a legitimate criminal matter involving my dogs, O.C.G.A. §16-10-20. In May 2025, my ex-wife refused to return my dogs to me and later falsely informed the DeKalb County Animal Shelter that I had died while deployed. I did not discover this until October 2025, when I received the official paperwork from the shelter. Upon learning this information, I immediately contacted the non-emergency line to file a police report. Unfortunately, the dispatcher I spoke with was dismissive, rude, and openly attempted to determine on her own what constituted a criminal matter versus a civil issue before a report was even taken. She also never identified herself during the call. After several months of repeated attempts to obtain assistance, I finally received a callback from Officer Brandon White. He reluctantly took my report and contacted me one time afterward, stating he had contacted dispatch and was heading to the shelter. After that, I never heard from him again despite multiple follow-up emails over the course of several months. Due to the lack of response, I escalated the matter through the chain of command and contacted Deputy Andrianne Byrd, providing documentation regarding the incident and the absence of investigative follow-up. I did not receive a response from Deputy Byrd. Lieutenant Guy Antinozzi later left me a voicemail, but despite returning his call three times and leaving two voicemail messages, I never received a callback. As of today, I still have not received meaningful communication or resolution from this department. My concern is not simply the outcome of the case, but the complete lack of professionalism, communication, and accountability throughout the process. Based on my experience, the level of responsiveness and follow-through from this agency has been deeply disappointing.
