I love love love this place. This a first choice for me when I am in town. The cottages are so awesome, step out and BAM the water is there. This is like a small house all is included even a small kitchen. Fireplace outside is outstanding to fire up and make s'more .... I love staying here with the whole family and my friends. Easy access to the freeway and the px. The rooms are clean and have rustic decoration. Customer service in the front desk is wonderful ( James) housekeeping excellent. And for the price winner. I've been staying here for summer vacation the last three years with a pleasant experience until this recent time. During our recent stay over spring break with our three small grandchildren we (4 days/3 nights) experienced the following problems; Upon heading to bed the first night in our Luxury villa there were No blankets on the bed at all! No comforter as pictured on the website..Nothing! Additional blankets and towels were brought the next day at my complaint. Thank God for the children's blankets i had packed. Day two, the villa was loosely cleaned. Day three day housekeeping did not come to clean and refresh until after 3:00 in the afternoon.leaving me to wonder if they were coming at all. That night, a building alarm went off nearby our villa, no sleep for everyone that night!! The following at check out I complained about the incidents..Assured all would be taken care of..Only to get home and find a NEW "Revenge" housekeeping charge (unauthorized) on my credit card!! Only to further ruin our family vacation.. Including our paddle board rental, "Luxury" beach villa, time off from work, and other miscellaneous costs..This Easter vacation spot was an Expensive Mistake. read more

It is SUPER nice!!! I am very glad that I FINALLY made it here to scope the place out. Although it was cloudy towards the evening, the sunset was still nice. Parking wasn't a pain, but I've been told that it gets crowded so try to get there early. There is a beach bar and convenience shop which makes this place even better. Plenty of beach equipment for rental so again, try to get there early. The place is very clean too! From previous reviews, I've read that it's hard to book the villas. Active duty Marines take precedence before the other branches of the military and that's absolutely understandable. You may book 12 weeks prior so next time and I'll for sure be doing that. This is now one of my favorite beaches along with Bellows Air Station in Hawaii. read more

We just had our wedding there on Friday and everyone had a great time. The coordinator, Tamika, was wonderful and helpful. I had tons of questions and several changes and she was very accommodating. She even rushed back to our villa when I realized I forgot my bouquet right before walking down the aisle! The rates were very reasonable compared to local hotels and other nice venues. The whole event is a blur to me but the guests really thought it was lovely and said the food was good. We were too busy talking to eat, which is ok because they dropped my hubby's meal and both of us got chicken instead of tri-tip. Maybe they knew we would never get around to eating. Pros: Affordable, professional staff, beautiful setting!! No limit on the amount of guests for outdoor weddings! This was key for us as many other outdoor beach locations do have a limit. Set-up for ceremony and reception included in per person rate. No hidden fees!!! No final payment until 2 weeks prior. Fully catered and options for both open bar and cash bar. Tents were set up the night before and everything else was ready to go well before I was ready to go! Beach jeep transport from villa to the ceremony for the bride! Food was served in a timely fashion and guests said it was good. Bartender was great. Complimentary champagne toast. Guests could hang out after the reception as long as they were quiet and respectful. Cons: The only serious issue I had was the bugs. Not sure what they were, but they bit the heck out of me and many of our guests. I noticed the problem the night before, so I made sure I didn't wear anything scented on the day of the wedding. I guess I should have worn repellant but they all smell terrible and I didn't want to smell like that on my wedding day. Anyway, by the end of the evening I was covered in HUGE red welts. I am still itching. The other issues were minor details for us, but probably good for others to know. They don't do music, photography, flowers, cake, etc. You are on your own there. Guests have to use regular public parking (very busy in summer) and the public beach restrooms. Civilians cannot rent or buy anything at the resort, such as cabanas, jet skis, boards, etc. I understand why, but it was kind of a bummer. It would be cool of the venue had "reserves" for such occasions. In addition, you must have a military sponsor to get a villa, and without a villa you would have no place nearby to get ready before the ceremony or hang out. (I have nothing but respect for military families and they deserve the best, so I get it.) Hopefully the venue will consider adding 2 pre-ceremony rooms for the bridal party as it is necessity and I I think that would be a great addition for non-military folks such as myself. read more

Good value for RV camping about 500 ft. from the beach. Winter rates are best and decrease as you get farther back from the front row. Well maintained overall, it is a popular spot with retirees and weekend warriors. When you make reservations, ask if there are any special events going on. Sometimes the jamborees get loud with their PA and goings-on which can make for a less than peaceful stay. Front desk staff is friendly and efficient. read more

I would not recommend having a wedding here. I had an awful experience and am still so upset. We were switched coordinators at the last minute so she had no idea what was going on. They tell you you can come set up two hours before the ceremony and they have all the tables, linens, and your ceremony arch and chairs out Day before or morning of. This was not the case for us. They forgot to set up the ceremony! When we went to set up it was nowhere to be found. We had to call the coordinator who then called the set up team and they were about to leave for the day. So the ceremony was an Hour Late!! I never even saw the coordinator who promised to be there the whole time. The reception was above the restaurant and it was hot as heck! Guests left early because it was too hot. All the babies there were crying and sweating to death! Also they spelled my last name wrong on the board pointing guests to the direction of the reception. Let's not even get into the price per person for food that wasn't even close to being good. We gave them a specific count for dishes days ahead and they ran out of tritip and gave guests chicken instead! They try to charge you per person for drinks as well but not everyone drinks...like children! I could go on and on about how terrible this all was. I will sadly not remember the good parts because the bad outweighed the good. read more

I got a standard villa for one night with my girlfriend, they had an earlier check in time then most places which was really nice, the room was roomy, had a full size fridge and freezer, a electric stove top with pots pans and cooking utensils, and a BBQ out back with a patio table and chairs with a fire pit. The bed was super comfy and the beach was beautiful. The only downsides was there was no TV in the bedroom, the whole place was tile no carpet and the walls were brick, which made it feel less welcoming but other then that i loved it read more

Hoorah!!!!! What a place. So relaxing and beautiful! Inexpensive and well set up. The beach is unbelievable, clean with plenty of chairs and cabanas. The beds are some of the best in the hotel business. Makes the Hilton look bad! Kitchen well stocked with utensils and we started up the Bar-B and ate some great food. Commissary and exchange very close. All base personnel we came in contact with were very friendly. Pretty cool sitting on the beach and watching an Osprey helicopter go by. Got to shake a lot of hands and say thank you for the service. Definitely be back and will tell all our military friends. read more

The only plus to this "resort" is that it has a kitchen to allow for cooking rather than eating out every day. This is by no means luxurious and I would not call this place a resort either. Do not be fooled by the beautiful, nice smelling guest services building (which is actually quite nice). Here's the truth about these places: 1. The only true difference between the Standard and Delux/Luxury is that the Standard does not have an oven, but does have a stove top. 2. Do not be fooled by employees telling you that Luxury "on the beach", Delux is a "bit of a walk from the beach" and Standard is "not on the beach." We stayed in Standard and let me just say this: Delux was right in front of us. The "ocean" view Delux had was still water, no rolling waves. Bottom line, all these resorts are quite a walk to the water- including Luxury! 3. The room was dirty. 4. There was water damage to the wall in the bathroom. The wall was soggy and falling apart. 5. The tile is not sealed, so it is really gross. On top of that, the tile is the same tile you'd find in a public beach shower/bathroom building. 6. Most of the walls are not dry wall. It is brick. It's like staying in a dorm or barracks room. 7. No air circulation. I'm not one for allergies, but I was coughing up a storm all night long inside the "resort." 8. We were told we'd get a queen bed. Definitely not a queen bed. It was smaller. But, we did get a roll away twin for our daughter, which was really nice. BTW- when I was booking the room I was told all rooms have only one queen bed. 9. Supposedly the rooms will sleep 6 people plus 4 in a tent on the grass outside the room. Not quite sure where 6 people would sleep in these rooms. There is only couch seats for 3 people and eating space for 4 people. Also, only enough eatery utensils, bowls, cups, et cetera for 4 people. 10. No counter space to prepare meals. All your space is taken up by the stove top, microwave, sink, and dish drying rack. Another plus for people that would care: this is the only beach that you can drink on in SoCal. Note that the parking space will soon not be ample as everybody is mentioning because they are beginning to turn the parking lot into part of the resort by building more rooms. During the summer, good luck finding a parking spot! read more

The hugh, clean beach is just 100 yards away. The sound of surf is so cool, especially at night. A little difficult to get here as the on-line directions are not clear ( we got lost). Spaces are very close together and #3 was not cleaned from the last visitor. $36 seems excessive for a beach front space. Showers are not user friendly, too open, no privacy. We had a planned power outage on a Saturday from 8-5 and when we checked in, Steven at the office insisted we were called in advance but we were not. Steven is a very poor representative for this park . He is curt, condensing, rude and is need of a counseling session from his supervisor. We did not feel welcome here. The deluxe suites are perfect for you if you have little ones. My sisters family was in town from Minnesota and they absolutely loved it. Her husband said he hasn't had this much fun in a long time! We had kids from the ages of 1-9 they all had a blast playing in the sand and Compared to the luxury suites which are also on the beach but much much further from the water. I would say the deluxe rooms are 15-20 feet from the water and the luxury suites are 80 feet from the water. Huge difference. The rooms in the deluxe also seemed much bigger. Since the kids cove is surrounded by walls of rock you don't have to worry about the little ones getting caught in the waves. The kids loved staying right by the water. They were out there from sun up to sun down. They didn't get as much time in the water when we were in the luxury suite since we had to draw straws on which adult was going to walk them over to the water. We will definitely be coming back! read more

We rented one of the beach front villas and were so impressed! They have renovated everything with leather couches, HD tvs, carved wood furniture and mirrors. There is a personal patio with a fire pit that backs right up to the beach! The only downside I could find was all the sand you end up tracking into the rooms, but they give you a vacuum in your room too, so problem solved! The kitchen was very well stocked with dishes, appliances, baking supplies, etc. I love being able to get up and run right on the beach every morning. We stayed during the week, so the beach was usually empty too! It felt like our own private beach house. It was nice and quiet at night. We will definitely be coming here for our family reunion next year. It was pretty close to perfect without paying crazy resort prices! read more

Without a doubt, my favorite beach in all of San Diego county. It is never too crowded (unless you go during the beach bash, July 4th). It is always clean and the waves are perfect for splashing around in. Plus, if you go at the right time you can purchase a burrito and margarita from Ramones. If you enjoy loud music blaring, 4 cars to a site, folks burning camping chairs and other garbage in the fire-pit, dogs running around off leash, constant vulgar language, beer cans smashed and littered all over sites, then you've got yourself a front row seat to not only the beautiful Pacific Coast but enlisted redneck paradise. Don't even bother walking over to the front desk to complain when it's 1030pm (after the not strictly enforced quiet hours,) and your 3 young kids won't fall asleep because the country concert is happening beside you rocking your camper. The oh so not friendly younger blonde receptionist will roll her eyes and not do anything about the situation but end up getting mad that you're interrupting her own screen time. I'm all about having a good time and the sites can't be beat but sadly the lack of management and enforcement of the rules to keep everyone happy campers doesn't measure up. read more

Literally walked in to a filthy room with unmade beds and trash everywhere. Used towels all over, pretty much just everything from the people staying there the night before. I walked right out because I thought I must have been given the wrong room number on accident. But it turns out that they just forgot to clean that room. So one of the workers who happened to be walking by (he was very nice) called housekeeping to come clean it. I sat on the back porch for about 40 minutes until the lady was done cleaning. Everyone seemed very apologetic .. Except for the front desk people. After that first day everything was super nice. The actual rooms are really spacious and every room is pretty much a few steps away from the water. 85 bucks a night is a great price for this place .. I would definitely stay again. But there's never any rooms here in the summer on short notice, so make sure you book ahead of time. Also, don't even bother with purchasing the wifi. It's a complete joke, I'm honestly shocked they even charge for it. I get about 45 seconds of Internet before it goes out and have to sign back in again. read more

We stayed in one of the Luxury Villas for the 4th of July long weekend. It was a beautiful villa with super helpful/friendly staff. There was no damage to the walls (like I've seen expressed in other reviews) and the furniture was nice. The beach itself is beautiful and the jetty was great to explore. As expected, the beach was packed on the 4th. Lots of drunk people, but the staff and MPs were awesome. Also, I know it is in no way the resort's fault, but our neighbor was a nightmare. When guests check in it needs to be CLEARLY STATED that each villa has an assigned parking space and additional cars need to be parked elsewhere. Our neighbor felt entitled to OUR space ALL WEEK for their 2nd car. It needs to be clearly explained that that is NOT OK. read more

We stayed in the 2 bedroom luxury villa with a kitchen. It was so beautiful and we had a great time! The customer service was excellent...maintenance came out immediately when we requested (which was several times) and were so helpful! The villas have almost everything you need...towels, dishes, pots/pans, salt & pepper, some toiletries, coffee cups, even wine glasses and a cork screw! The only thing that could have made the stay better is if our villa faced the ocean...all the 2 bedrooms face the "marina" which is really the area of water that the marines launch the AAVs. It was fun to watch them doing their exercises in the morning, but watching the waves as I sipped my coffee would have been better :-) Also, bring an extra broom or floor vacuum. The sand has added up in the villa, which is hard to avoid at the beach! The beach area was gorgeous. So well maintained, and practically empty even though we had perfect weather! I can't believe we haven't taken advantage of this before, we can't wait to come back!! read more
