Although the grounds are beautiful, the administration the Welk/Hyatt has been consistently irresponsible and unreliable over the last 11 years that I have been an owner. Among only a few of their disappointments are- extremely long waits on hold; no call backs; there was a problem with a credit card and they end up sending me to a collections , saying that they had tried to call me an email me and call me but there was no record! So the lied! I had to spend much extra time getting that off my record but I still had to pay a couple of hundred dollars just for the fees and Welk/Hyatt took no responsibility. They have sent my points on to Interval without my permission and then told me they were doing a courtesy by giving me back my points! Then when I said, I want to keep all of my points with you for this time, they ended up suspending 180 /240 points- after paying two thousand dollars for HOA fees. They could have made an exception... Joyce simply did not care....terrible customer service. She told me I could exit and try to sell the property ( and that is very difficult , because people have a wizened up to timeshares scams? ) Joyce from resolutions was very cold and rude.... I look at that as theft. They might seem nice , but they don't take care of their clients and they make a lot of mistakes and they don't remedy them. And who knows why they have that kind of attitude? Maybe they are not paid well or treated well , and that's why they treat their clients as such. I've also stayed in rooms that had no hot water.And the showers weren't working! But most of the time , the rooms are beautiful. If you want to stay at the Welk or other resorts, the best way to do it is booking directly with the resort. They will tell you that the time sure is the best way.But it's not. Save yourself a lot of heartache and don't do timeshares; it's definitely a waste of much of your energy trying to book w them and deal with all the mishaps. And unkindnesses. read more

!!! REMINDER !!! In CA, you have 7 days to void and null your time share purchase. Please call a lawyer if you feel you were bullied into buying. No joke ... I had to threaten to call 911 before they finally released us from the time share presentation. They purposely put the car park a long ways away from the office, where they work you over to buy. You have to take a golf cart with a special voucher to get to your car so they can trap you in their presentation. The time share sellers are predators, and the rooms are distressed and the property is inhospitable and run down. Customer service doesn't exist here. The pools are gross, and the place is a ghost town except for the raging party happening next door or screaming stomping kids all night plus the road noise from the highway (all of which would be fine except the rooms have 0 noise insulation and the walls are paper thin). The property is very dark, as there's not enough lighting in the dark narrow hallways and staircases. There's little shopping or food as promised with reasonable hours or price, so you have to bring your own food as you're far away from any restaurants or grocery stores. read more

We've been coming here for years but our recent experience was disappointing . I booked a week stay via Interval International Getaways. They wouldn't let us check in on Sun. Jan. 25th despite having my confirmation email with check-in instructions because I have remarried & my new married last name ID didn't match the reservation. Interval International & Marriott Vacation Club couldn't assure them that I am who booked it because they are closed on Sunday afternoons by check-in time PST. We were not dealt with compassionately & were treated like criminals who were trying to steal my identity. We were forced to pay for lodging elsewhere that evening. The next morning, we spoke with Interval International & they sent a new booking confirmation with my new legal name to me & to the Welk resort. We were finally able to check in. Interval International told us that the resort could have easily resolved the matter by letting us check-in, charging us one night & then resolving things in the morning when Interval International was open. Sadly, that isn't how the Welk resort handled it. Fast forward to later after we finally were allowed to check in, my husband explained to Luiza, a manager, what had transpired on Sunday afternoon and how frustrated we were. Luiza was kind & offered a $100 credit to attempt to smooth over the botched check-in. That was all good until we checked out & the folio revealed that we were never given the credit. No one at the resort will let us speak with Luiza now and keep telling us that she's unavailable and will call us. That call has never come. It saddens me that I now longer can trust that we will have reliable & trustworthy customer service at the Welk Resort. Lawrence Welk would be turning over in his grave if he could see how we were treated by management and the check-in staff. On the other hand, the pool staff was great & Theo made everyone feel welcome and appreciated. read more

My wife's family has been coming here for decades. I've been joining them since we got married about ten years ago. The short version is: this place is falling apart. Or perhaps fell apart is more accurate. So many things went wrong. The sink handles barely turn. The toilet broke twice. The phones didn't work. Maintenance is slow to respond. If you need extra dish washer pods, the resort charges you??? There weren't enough bowls to serve soup to our family. There wasn't enough soap to wash the dishes all week and surprise, they charge if you need more. In the recreational center the only chess board was missing 6 pieces. How hard is it to buy another chess board when your rec center only has one? They charge for shuffle board if you want to play. My wife says this place was great in her childhood and I believe her. But it's really lost it's way. Pretty terrible experience all around, especially considering the hefty price. read more

Wow!!! This place has changed!!! What a difference! I was skeptical about the Hyatt taking over! The Hyatt knows what the vakay people want. The staff are so amazing!!! People, stop complaining!! This resort IS A TIMESHARE COMMUNITY! Those of us who own timeshares know the drill. This resort is now owned by Hyatt and like other hotel chains such as Wyndham, Marriott, Hilton, and Disney, these professionals are improving the Timeshare Industry and reducing the amount of "scams" out there. OK, I'm biased, as I own a timeshare in Fort Lauderdale and in Maui, and I've been exchanging for decades! For those who "take the tour", do your homework first or stay home! Now, back to the Resort. It's gorgeous. It's HUGE! It has TWO 18-hole golf courses on the property (did I mention it's huge?). There are several villa designs and they cannot guarantee location. There are 8 pools, a fitness center, a Broadway-type theater (open to the public), and a sit down restaurant. It's inland from San Diego (a 45-minute drive into the hills), but a 20 minute drive down I-15 to Escondido, where there are an abundant of restaurants and places to eat and party. read more

we had a really good stay at Welk Resorts, booked a 2br villa as a family and it was exactly what we needed. Plenty of space, clean, and felt more like a condo than a hotel room. The sliding door from the living room opens straight onto the golf course. No balcony just step outside and u have got open views of the lake and mountains. Super peaceful in d mornings and evenings. The resort itself is calm, family friendly, and well kept. Not overhyped, just a genuinely nice place to stay with family. Would come back. read more

This was my first time staying at the Hyatt Welk. I will return. The grounds are beautiful. The property is very spacious. I arrived early on a Friday morning and was allowed to check in. My room overlooked a golf course. The unit I stayed in had a separate bedroom from the living/dining room. My room had a refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, A/C, and plenty of storage space. I was pleased with the accommodation. The Welk is very family-friendly. If I wanted to be picky, I could say that the resort looked a little tired and worn. But that did not bother me. My only major complaint was the 10:00 check- out time. I am used to Hyatt properties allowing me to have a 2 o'clock checkout time. read more

First of all... This resort is located in a beautiful area with great views...from MOST units. The Resort is generally well maintained and the staff friendly and helpful. I have owned in LEDO resort organization for 30+ years. Although my property is the Desert Oasis in Cathedral City, CA, I regularly exchange my week for the Escondido location. This week, we were assigned a 1 BR unit #3492 in the Spyglass Hill section of "Villas on the Green" area. Not the worst unit, but damn close to it. This unit is the lowest sq. footage available within the resort and not only do I have to climb 2 flights of stairs to my unit, it is at the far end of the parking area. The "Villas" area apparently are the "low-rent" district within the resort. We have HAPPILY stayed in "Harmony Hill", "Melody Hill" and "Broadway Hill" areas, and been completely satisfied with accessibility and view. This is our second time in "Villas" with an equally dissatisfied experience. Mind you, I am comfortable one arrived within my unit, but EVERYWHERE to go within the resort and surrounding areas is a 2 flight stair climb (each way) and a 1/8 mi. walk to our car (each way)...not acceptable to an aging senior. I intend to speak with management today to express my displeasure, and will update this review accordingly after that meeting. read more

We were invited to a presentation in return for a gift that would be a two night stay somewhere of our choice. This is a review of just the room we stayed in. We stayed in a two bedroom unit and it was big, but old as others have mentioned. It was still fine because it was clean overall. However, the fire alarm was beeping and to my surprise, no one picked up the phone when I called the front desk. This was around 8:30PM. I kept trying for about five minutes and I even texted the line they apparently use to communicate and still nothing. Let me tell you. The beeping will get to you. Yes you can hear it from inside the rooms. I called maintenance and someone answered! Thirty minutes and someone will be on their way. Long story short, no one came regardless of how many times I called. Here is the kicker, another room in the same building also was having the same issue with all the beeping as per the maintenance phone receptionist. 9:45AM the next day, someone calls and asks me if it was would be okay if a maintenance person comes to look at the fire alarm. WELL, seeing as we are going to be checking out in 15 minutes, that would be fine. Such an annoying experience especially when they're trying to sell me the timeshare based on my experience. I don't think I would ever choose to stay here again unless it was dirt cheap. I also didn't get to check out any of the food or pools or anything, so maybe that would make it worth it for other people. read more

Well well Welk....I live next door at Champagne Village. Sometimes I need an escape for my dogs and I. They have beautiful landscapes, fountains, free Wi-Fi, Starbucks, Pizza Hut AND THEATRE. While I was shopping the alcohol section I met Julie from the band playing tonight FABA...as in a tribute to ABBA. My challenge to Logan was $25, show me the drink to celebrate my accomplishments. His pick: On The Rocks jalapeño pineapple margarita. I bought it, he picked the correct lighter AND he looks like Ed Sheeran with a few extra joyful pounds....go see him, he's a bartenders dream...and he doesn't even drink. Salute my friend! read more

We are not members of the Welk group, but we have attended their locations and presentations in the past. Recently, we attended a presentation at their location near San Diego, off the 15 freeway. The presentation started promptly, and they offered refreshments and a small continental breakfast in their presentation room. We were assigned a representative who asked us a lot of open-ended questions, trying to relate to us through conversation and shared experiences. He then gave us a tour of the facility, which was clean and nice but nothing extraordinary. If you're looking for a quick getaway, it might work for you. Back in the presentation room, the representative asked us, "How important is a vacation for you?" We discussed this topic for about an hour. Then presented us with cost options to own a timeshare. After some back and forth on pricing, the representative left and returned with his manager, who frequently checks in with every table. The manager offered an even lower price to entice us to purchase, but after a lengthy discussion, we made it clear we were not interested. They eventually let us go, and we collected our promised gifts. Though they weren't as friendly at this point, we didn't mind as we got what we were promised. Fast forward, we did collect our gifts and visited their Cabo location, "Sirena del Mar," which was great. We also used our gifts to visit San Francisco (a stay at a small hotel), Lake Tahoe, and attended a Lakers game. Redeeming the prizes was a bit of a hassle since they use a different business for redemption, and there's a small fee of about $100 per hotel stay. You're still responsible for your own transportation and food, as the prizes only cover the stay, not a dream vacation. The dates are not too flexible so you need to be flexible and when they call back with some dates, take them or prepare to be placed back on the list and wait some more. Overall, they were professional, but at the end of the day, it's a business. You're not family. Attend the meetings with caution and set your expectations early. We were there for about two and a half hours, but I've heard of others staying longer. Occasionally, we'd hear a bell, signifying someone had signed up, followed by cheers. This seems like a business tactic, possibly involving paid actors, though it could be real customers. Don't feel pressured or alarmed. Be firm if you're not interested, but if you are, then you might be in the right place. read more

This was my second time staying at the Welk Resort. We went last summer and this summer as a family staycation with my 2 young nieces. It's perfect for families, plenty of pools, 2 water slides, large clean rooms with kitchens. I've only stayed in the 2 bedroom villas and we were happy with both villas we've stayed in. Here are my pros & cons with details below: Pros: Full kitchen Pools Clean and spacious rooms Pretty mountain and golf course views Free otterpop activities/games at pool for kids Large gym with lots of good equipment Friendly hotel staff Early check in Cons (read details below): Splash pad and pool maintenance Overselling Hyatt vacation club/timeshare Offering housekeeping/fresh towels to room but not delivering No towels by the pool (once) Additional charges for activities Steam room smelled mildewy Last year we were offered a "VIP tour" aka timeshare presentation at check in and denied, that was the last we heard of it. This year we were offered the tour around 5 times throughout our 3 night stay. My issue with this is that I felt like so much money and time went into staff circling the pools offering the tour, phone calls to our room offering the tour but there wasn't nearly as much effort put into keeping the paying guests happy. For example, in the morning we got a call asking how our stay was going, if we'd like new towels for our room or anything else and if we'd like to go to the tour. First of all, we already had attended the presentation so why call our room to offer again? They should have taken our room off the marketing list. Secondly, we said yes to towels but when we went to our room that afternoon, none had been delivered. Later that same day at the pool, someone stopped by to ask about our stay and offer the tour, we told them we went and mentioned that we requested towels and didn't receive any. They said they'd call, we never got towels and had to take them from the pool. The next day when we arrived to the pool, there were no fresh towels. We spoke to someone in the clubhouse who seemed unsure about when or how to get them. After over an hour of being there and multiple families without towels, we called to try to get some ourselves. We were transferred from department to department trying to get towels delivered to the pool. Eventually they came but it was frustrating that it had to go through so many loops and the pool concessions person or front desk couldn't make the calls, we had to. My biggest con about the resort and one thing we questioned on whether or not to return based on is that the splash pads need maintenance and attention. The rubber flooring was coming up last year. We were hoping that it would be fixed come this year but we're sad to see that it still has yet to be addressed. They really need to be updated. In addition to this, the steps at the Mountain View pool were very slippery and need to have nonslip put on, we had a few slips getting in and out and it is dangerous. My final con is that last year there were a lot of fun activities that were included in your stay and this year we were given the schedule and a bit disappointed to see that there was a cost to participate in most of the activities. Id pay $5 for the morning yoga but $15 seems high for a hotel class. Overall I'm giving 4/5 stars because it is a fun nice resort for families but I really hope some changes and improvements are made. read more

This place is such a hidden gem for families! We stayed at The Welk, and it was perfect for the kids. There are waterslides, a mini arcade, and even a basketball court to burn off some energy. It honestly feels like a little town with everything you need right there. The rooms are super nice and spacious--some even have a little backyard area, which was great for letting the kids run around while we relaxed. They also have grills throughout the resort, so we had a fun barbecue night without even leaving the property. And the golf courses? Absolutely beautiful. Even if you're not a big golfer, it's worth walking around and taking in the views. Definitely a great spot if you're looking for a family-friendly getaway with lots to do and a really relaxing vibe. read more

I am a hyatt member and we stayed here over a long weekend to celebrate my birthday and it was really nice. I believe they are doing various upgrades on the villas and rooms, so I assume that will take some time to complete as they just took over this place. But the views are amazing, the site is soo beautiful and the staff was really nice. We had a great time here, our room was spacious and we had a nice balcony and enjoyed the adult pool since we didn't have our kiddo with us and overall we had a great stay and would come again with our kiddo as we were across from some kid pools and play areas that he would have loved. read more

Please think twice before booking here. We paid for two nights and a show and returned home after one night. Several times we confirmed we had a ground level room and we were booked into a room where we had to go downstairs and then upstairs to enter our room. The room and furnishings were very old with an odor. Forget about shopping or dining on property as the so called restaurant was only open after noon on certains days only. The little grocery store has very limited choices. Thought I would browse the gift shop on a Wednesday afternoon and it was closed. This whole experience was during the peak spring break. read more

When the Welk family owned the resort there was a high standard of quality and amenities now that it is owned by Hyatt boy have things gone downhill. The villas, at all locations (resort, on the green and mountain) are all tired looking and some cases downright dirty. The furniture in our resort villa reeked of urine and dirt. The walls were dingy and marked up. The windows haven't been washed in ??? Screens don't fit and don't get me started on the bugs and ants. Cabinet doors are hanging lopsided and the patio doors wouldn't lock. Maintenance and housekeeping were the two bright stars. They were friendly and responsive. Many guests must be used to Hyatt hotel stays because they think leaving trash and dirty towels outside the unit door is ok and that someone will just pop by and pick it up. Hello. Trash bins are right across the parking lot. While we were on property it was tree trimming time. 9am to early afternoon for two days in a row. Looked nice once they were finished and they were careful but noisy and dirty. The golf course has seen better days. Lots of dry, dead spots and the tee boxes need leveling out and aerating. The big pool at the mountain villas was closed while we visited which sent dozens of families to the other pool with slides, etc. at one point I swear it was shoulder to shoulder in the pool. The mountain pool is scheduled to reopen in July. I really don't recall being told about the pool prior to our reservation, but they may have notified some of the owners? The restaurant was just plain bad. My son said his hamburger tasted like a school lunch burger. My sister's ciabatta was so dry the bun sounded like toast when she tried to bite it? The prices were typical resort for a captive audience but honestly there were very few diners. It's disappointing because it used to be something to look forward to. Not now. Most of our meal that night went uneaten. The staff was friendly but not super attentive and I guess it's a hard place to want to work if there's no tips? The resort is cashless. Kind of a pain for our kids who are old enough to want to book some activities but without a credit card? There are some positives though and to be fair I hope this is just growing pains for Hyatt. The beds are comfy, our AC worked great. The patios had nice views of the area. The times we visited the adult pool we were able to find a lounger and the vibe was pleasant. We'll probably give them a couple of years to get their quality back up and then maybe try again. read more

When my husband called the front desk the gal that answered said their Pizza Hut closed at 8 and he said the website says 9. But she was certain she was correct. So my husband went ahead and called Pizza Hut and he asked when they closed and he was told 9. So after he placed his order the price was different than what their website said. After that craziness, my husband called the front desk back. When he told her that the Pizza Hut in fact closed at 9 and not 8 she never apologized for being wrong. Not impressed with their front desk customer service. Sad really. This morning we went to the pool and it's 11 AM and there are zero towels to use and we asked and no one has got them yet. Now, they said the slide opens at 11 and it didn't open. Now they are saying 11:15! Poor management! This resort has a prestigious look but Comfort Inn management. Sad really. PLEASE CONSIDER READING THIS REVIEW * So on 5/2 I called to inquire about purchasing a time share since myself and my fiancés ex wife were all considering doing a time share. David was very helpful and got us in last minute so we could join and comped our nights stay. We were there on May 3. We arrived in time for our 12:15 meeting and were met with agent Kyle. We were told this meeting would take about 90 minutes.. yeah, try doubling that. We were there til 3:45! This was a horrible sales experience. We were upfront with our questions and wanted to discuss numbers as essentially it doesn't matter what you have to offer, it has to make financial sense for our family. We wanted to make sure this was something realistically doable for our family financially. We were sitting there with our 11 month old, 4 year old and 6 year old. We were able to drop our older kiddos off at the daycare area about 40 minutes in since they wouldn't sit still which I will say, (I believe her name was Natalie in the daycare) she was SOOOO kind and caring to my one daughter who was really nervous and upset going in. She truly had an empathetic and nurturing attitude towards my girls and I can't speak highly enough. But back to the time share spiel... we were very upfront about our families needs and type of travel we want to do. As a young family with no help, we prefer quick local getaways and discussed our budget to which Kyle scoffed and said that would be impossible to do... and counter offered something impossible for us to do... to which we were like that's fine. We get it. And we were gonna leave. No harm but Kyle continues to ask us what our budget was and if we could do more. We made it very clear, what our budget was and we could not budge. There was a complete shift in his attitude and demeanor, it was actually scary. This guy flat out said and I QUOTE "you aren't my customer. You aren't OUR customer." And he said that not once. Not twice. BUT THREE TIMES while getting up out of his chair and walking away angrily. He went to get our "gifts" which who even knows what those were because we didn't receive anything. Kyle came back and said with a back to normal attitude about 2 minutes later and said "guys, I don't know how or why but my manager says we can do it at your budget" INSTANT RED FLAG AND TURN OFF. After his attitude and rudeness, the fake mask fell off, we saw his character and we were no longer interested in anything "Mr Jackel and Hyde" wanted to say. The manager we were met with after was Reece on our way out who I cannot speak higher of. Honestly if we had him initially, we would've signed up immediately. He was so kind, professional, handled this escalation of ours with understanding and a calm demeanor. He gave us a form to fill out in which we wrote about our terrible experience with Kyle. I will be making it VERY clear to friends and family that this is NOT the place you want to consider investing in. I sincerely hope to be contacted and appeased for this horrible experience. Family vacation RUINED. Do not recommend. However I do hope this review can also reflect that we LOVED Reece, Natalie and David. They were ON it. read more

Our second and last visit here. We were assigned to Villas on the Green. It was a terrible basement dungeon "Villa" very small, smelly at the bottom of bldg down stairs. It was our anniversary trip which we let them know and I got depressed every time I went In & out of the basement. Very dated and old furniture and floors. We asked for a late checkout so hubby could complete a zoom call and were refused! Had item stolen in women's bathroom of Melody Hill pool inside fitness center. Would not recommend. read more

Even smallest room was decent. No problems with room. Bring lots of food to stock your kitchen. Not many food options, especially in the evening. Resort is far out there, so nothing is near by to easily go shopping. If you like pools, they have lots, also golf. Great gym. Not enough entertainment/activities for such a big place. read more

You have 3 hours between 6 am and 9 am during the summer and because of stupid policies, you can't use the pool. What kind of nonsense is that? The is a nice, spacious, and clean. The staff is very friendly. There are many activities for the kids too.

Here for a big wedding. Only 1 person at check in at all times, with a line out the door. The main phone number doesn't work and the phones from the room to call the main office doesn't work. Needed towels and soap. Complicated when it comes to giving access to anyone through the gate. There are no cleaning staff anywhere to be found. I also tried to call 4x the 2 weeks prior to my reservation to add a name to my reservation so that person could get in the room if they arrived before me. The call never went through so i never spoke to anyone. 2 days before my reservation, the hotel finally called me to confirm it so i inquired about adding that person's name to the room, and they told it "it was too late to do so and that i needed to call before 48 hours prior to the reservation"..... i did MANY times yet the phones do. Not. Work. I told the lady that on the phone and she basically said i was in the wrong and nothing she could do about it. read more

Over 30 years our Family has an annual Family Vacation in our "deeded" Timeshare Villas. Recently Acquired by Marriott/Hyatt. You can decided if it's poorly managed: After the remodel of one of our Villa the Shutters have never been replaced.The Sliding glass door handle is missing. When we arrived the Villa was clean but with a terrible musty odor that was noticeable. Throughout the stay. We rented the main Cabana at MT Springs. 2 weeks of having the grill shut down "no personal" was the excuse. The Cabana had the drapes removed - last year they were torn. The TV didn't work and no pool side service. Yet, they expected us to pay full price. The Jacuzzi's throughout the property were "warm" but jets broken. We're told Mt Springs has a serious issue with pipes that need repair. Two Villas we rented the prior week (week 32) had blood on door knobs and sheets when we arrived. No activities pool side for the kids as they've had in the past. Overall, POOR Experience this year. We want our $1200 annual fee's refunded. That would be for 7 Villa we own. It isn't any wonder they want to sell "Points" instead of deeds to ownership. Mr. Lawrence Welk and his Family's dream is a 3 star resort now. Sad read more

Restaurant is dingy with very pedestrian food choices. We were locked out of our room for an hour by guest in neighboring unit deadbolting common outside door to the two separate units. No one at hotel thought this could happen until maintenance arrived to "fix" the deadbolt 1 hour later. This is a major flaw in design and a management failure in training. No one understood it could happen and the other guest wasn't told not to look outside door deadbolt. They weren't bright enough to figure out that seeing another numbered door next to theirs meant that outside door shouldn't be dead bolted. Couldn't get front desk to answer phone in under 20 rings! Very frustrating! Waiting in parking lot from 8-10 pm for solution. Finally the front desk called guests in neighboring unit and they unlocked the outside door to both units. This should have been resolved in 2 minutes with proper training. read more

I would give them zero stars, but Yelp does not allow it My stay at the Welk Resort was disappointing. The room that we were assigned was in need of many repairs. Called maintenance the day after our arrival with notice of safety repairs that needed to be addressed. I was not in the unit when maintenance came out but there was a phone message left that the repairs had been completed. Only one of the issues had been taken care of. I proceeded to take a shower and upon exiting and grabbing a towel off the rack, the rack fell off the wall and I along with it. Called the front desk and asked to have a manager come out to the room but was advised that they do not send managers out to the room (unacceptable) and that they would have a maintenance supervisor come out instead. The supervisor came out but was not able to address the issues that evening and advised that someone would be out the next day. Maintenance came out the next morning but said that they only knew of 1 issue to fix. We pointed out all of the issues and they said they would be back in a few moments. 90 minutes later a different person from maintenance came to our door to address the issues. It took him 5 hours to fix "some" of the issues, not all. We never did get all of the issues addressed before our checkout which now leaves the issues for the next unknowing guests who arrive. We have stayed at this resort before and have not had issues as we did this stay. I know that they are under new ownership which may be the issue. I have never stayed at a property that refused to send out a manager when requested. I advise that if you are going to stay here to thoroughly check your room for safety issues when you arrive. read more
