My daughter has been a student at Coral Academy for over 9 years. I have never heard her complain…read moreso much about a campus than this one. This is what she tells me: all of the teachers either love you or hate you, if they don't like you, you will most likely fail in that class and not succeed as well as others. Teachers also pick favorites, mostly Muslim, Turkish, and Arab students. For the past couple of years, all of her science teachers at this campus have taught her literally nothing. Also some teachers barely speak english or don't even know what they are doing. Another thing, all of the staff take dress code WAY too seriously. For example, my daughter wore a Coral sweatshirt to school but just with a tank top underneath because it was too hot. A teacher found out that she had no Coral polo underneath and sent her to the office where I had to bring her a shirt in the middle of my work day. Which was extremely unnecessary, like do they have nothing else better to do. Also one of her friends were wearing slide on shoes but they were closed toed( which I'm pretty sure are allowed, like she wasn't showing her toes or anything.) and the Vice Principal, Ms Nourse.Came up to her and took her to the office and she got a minor referral. Also referrals can ruin a child's year. If you get 3 minors you get a major. And if you get 3 majors your not allowed to go on the class field trip. So lets say one student steals another students ID and they cant find it for 9 days, and they have to get a temporary one from the office each day. Then they can't go on the field trip. Also the IDs are literally useless. They don't even serve a purpose, like maybe for identification, but as if a students name is literally on every attendance sheet in every class. And its not like they scan them or anything. So it can get kids in a lot of trouble. Also the staff treats every student the same, like they are a evil. The only good teachers are Coach Gengo, Ms. Silva, Ms Sol, Mr Scott, and Mrs Jonah. "they are the goats" - my son. Also all the teachers are useless snd don't speak english. Thats all would not recommend.

This school is a straight dump, their main focus is the students who are, Muslim/middle eastern/…read moreAsian and their "LGBTQ" students. They say they're all about education but when my son wears a plain black hoodie because it's cold out, he had to sit in the office for a couple hours because he didn't wear his black polo under his black hoodie so I got a call from the school, which by the way I'm across town at work . I had to take my own time, out of my way to bring my kid a damn shirt. I understand about the uniform policies, but pulling a student from class because he wore a plain black hoodie, missing 3 CLASSES, also making him sit in the office for a couple hours till I arrive, is outrageous . He missed half of his classes because he wore a plain black hoodie. On top of all of that, every teacher is from turkey and they don't know how to speak English, why are you hiring teachers who barely know how to speak English and barely even know how to teach, to HIGHSCHOOL STUDENTS. Also why do they care more about the student's sexuality and gender? This is SCHOOL, not a camp. Despite all the problems, your child will most likely be better off at a public school.

The teachers aren't responsible for kids getting in fights or bullying or getting bad grades. The teachers job is to teach a room of 20-30 (or maybe more) kids per class. There are great free and affordable tutoring programs. Parents can help their kids at home. Downsize and live on one income or have alternating part time schedules so one parent can always be home to keep up with chores, spend time with your child and show them how to treat others with kindness and forgiveness. If a school like this isn't working out for you try a hybrid program or considering home schooling. You have so many options. You have a choice. You are responsible for your child's environment. If you went to school in CCSD yourself you should know what to expect. It's that same at every school, rich or poor, public or private. And to be honest it's the same in other states as well. Parents, volunteer to be teacher assistants or form tutoring clubs.

My son has been attending Greenspun Middle School for about one year and is currently in 6th grade…read more We moved here from California, and the difference in how schools are run is shocking, in the worst way. Clark County School District, and Greenspun specifically, handles student behavior very poorly. My son has witnessed more fights at this school in one year than he ever did in California. Bullying is a serious issue here, and the way staff, teachers, and administration respond to it is unacceptable. For example, an 8th grade student poured orange juice over my son's head. My son did exactly what he was taught, he reported it to staff instead of reacting. After speaking directly with the principal, Ms. Hermes, it sounded like this 8th grade student would face little to no consequences. However, it was made very clear that if my son had defended himself, he would be the one in trouble. This teaches kids to accept being mistreated while punishing them for standing up for themselves, which does not prepare them for the real world. This same pattern shows up in the classroom. My son recently got in trouble with Ms. Walsh, his math teacher, for raising his voice. My son admitted to me that he did raise his voice, and I appreciate his honesty. He explained that during free time another student was repeatedly giving him a hard time and even threw a backpack, yet that student was not disciplined. Ms. Walsh did not put a stop to the behavior immediately, allowing the situation to escalate. While my son should not have raised his voice, it is easy to understand his frustration when disruptive behavior is ignored and the child reacting is the only one punished. Students are either ignored when they report issues or immediately punished without any real accountability. Teachers frequently raise their voices when it isn't necessary, instead of stopping bad behavior the first time it happens. It feels more like a power struggle than effective classroom management. Academically, things are not much better. My son has struggled with his grades, and after meeting with all of his teachers, one teacher, Mr. Hoffman made the comment, "The dad's job is to work and the son's job is to do his own work." That statement alone showed a complete lack of support, accountability, or willingness to help a struggling student. I also personally sat in on one of Mr. Hoffman's classes. Before the classroom doors even opened, while waiting outside in the hallway, I overheard multiple students using the N word. This is especially concerning given that over 80% of the student population is Caucasian. There was no staff present to intervene out there , and it was clear this type of language is tolerated. From my own observation, Mr. Hoffman does the bare minimum, assigns work, sits at his desk, and provides little guidance or engagement. I witnessed this firsthand. Some classes don't even have assigned seating, which only adds to distractions and behavior problems. Most work is done on computers, yet there is no typing or basic computer skills class, setting students up to struggle even more. Overall, this school lacks structure, accountability, student support, and effective leadership. Bullying, racial language, and disruptive behavior are not addressed consistently, and administration, under the leadership of Ms. Hermes fails to protect students who follow the rules and report issues appropriately. I would not recommend Greenspun Middle School to any parent who cares about their child's safety, education, or emotional well being.

It's quite a change in his academic progress and his enthusiasm for school. He says Yayy every morning when I tell him what day it is, and that's school day. He started reading when he was four and a half. I don't have to ask him twice when it's reading time at home. Somehow Challenger got him to feel like he is having fun when he reads or works on the worksheets. He is able to explain to me errors he makes on his worksheets at school, and able to show me corrections. I am happy with his academic growth at this school. I like that the school entrance is locked at all time. You can't get to the front desk before you get approved to pass through the locked entrance There were couple times I had issues with admin. At first, I didn't know the school required uniform shirt and pants. I only ordered my son uniform shirts and went to buy him pants from a clothing store. One day he came home in someone else's pants with no note to explain why his pants were changed. When I called, that was when I was informed about the mandatory uniform. I was upset at how they made him change into different pants at school, and how they didn't have the courtesy to call me to work out the uniform issue. Another time was when I received a past due notice, and a warning of my son's school termination if the past due was not taken care of by so and so date. I was not made aware of the due. When I called the school to take care of the amount, I was told that it was from the one day that we picked him up late. Ms Brenda always calls me back in timely manner. For how happy my son is at this school, I can look past all the admin issues I have had.
