With us, we had a significant home renovation over 3 figures. He took a substantial deposit amount, thousands of dollars, cashed the check, then immediately hired a bankruptcy attorney with those funds. He filed for bankruptcy and let us think for weeks he was finishing another job. Meanwhile, he had abandoned over a million total in multiple jobs for other businesses and homeowners. Our family of four saved and waited on this renovation for a long time and he walked away owing nothing. Yes, we saught legal council, but the DA deemed it civil and not criminal, so we'd be spending thousands of dollars fighting someone with no assets, other than what his in his wife's name too. Since then, we have pressed to have his contractors license revoked, so he no longer has a GC. Do NOT trust this man or simply choose another contractor out of principle. Our new contractor was heaven to work with when we were finally able to save and start again.
