There is something for everyone. Lots of great food, both fair type and that served up by local churches and organizations. There were even two places that sold ice cream made the old fashioned way. They each had fun setups that churned the ice cream. Sadly each time we went by they were making the ice cream and it wasn't ready. My husband loved seeing the large number of old tractors. On Saturday morning there is also a parade with the old tractors. There is live music and a field full of inflatables and horse rides for the kids. There is even a cornhole tournament where you can pay $10 for a team of two to compete. They also have rows of vendors selling all kinds of things. From clothes to shoes to honey and soap. I would definitely recommend you check it out. Fun way to get out with the family while supporting the local community. If you go from here to Matthews town you will find big rummage sales spread out all over town. And more fair type food being served up.

The main street had lots of food trucks and yummies as grilled meat smells drifted thru the air. The sound of Ecuadorian panpipes also filled the air with sweet melodies, along with other acoustic trios. Today was a beautiful day and after many years we thought we would give it a try for a little get away. Like many things that change, some get better, some get worse. There was a good attendance and they were all partaking at the many many food stalls. -but that was about it. I enjoyed the company of my hubster and found a couple vendors that were somewhat flee market where I found a very nice bowl for $5 and an ornamental birdhouse for 3bucks. Craft booths, art booths, food booths, airsoft gun booths, jewelry booths, and every other type of booth imaginable. I am a huge Star Wars fan, and I love to find vintage stuff. There are a couple booths that sometimes have really great Star Wars stuff for dirt cheap prices. I love this festival so much!!!!!! I usually go in the morning because it can get crowded sometimes later in the day. This year I get to come on both days because my cousins are coming--hoorah!!!! Many of the vendors weren't opened yet, but we found plenty to see and do. The information staff is friendly with great maps and programs of the festival guides. They explained that Saturday night was busy at the fair with several live concerts and carnival rides running late into the evening. The carnival rides and game booths looked sparkling new, colorful and clean. I wished I had brought my granddaughters. On Sunday, you could by a "band" and get to ride everything for one price. There was one booth with locally made glass paperweights. Elwood is famous for glass making for well over 130 years. The festival offered free tours of two local glass shops. The tours were short, only 10 minutes at each stop, but you could drive back over to the shops after the tour. I was hoping to see more glass at the actual festival with information on the Elwood history. There were many booths filled with carnival-type trinkets, local crafts and food. But the best part was a long line of food trucks. There was every type of food, coffee and summer beverages imaginable. The smell of bacon frying filled the air. Since it was early, I grabbed some biscuits and gravy from the Quincy Masonic Lodge truck. The guys in the truck were jovial and fun. I ate my breakfast at nearby picnic tables. They were delicious and stuck to my ribs. Food prices were unbelievably reasonable. There was an outdoor pavilion where concerts and other events happened. Nearby restrooms were available. Admission and parking were free. There was close parking on Sunday morning, but I'm sure parking was a challenge on Saturday. It was easy to get around the park. People are friendly. The festival is worth the visit.

The Elwood Glass Festival is an underrated festival based in Elwood, Indiana, a relatively small…read morecommunity located in both Madison and Tipton Counties and organized by the Elwood Chamber of Commerce. Despite having existed for 50 years (51 in 2022), the Elwood Glass Festival seems rather modestly known outside the Madison and Tipton County areas. I only heard of it because of a friend who lives in the Elwood area. It gave me the opportunity to more fully explore a part of the state that I've never really visited. The festival is a tribute to the unique, beautifully crafted hand-blown art-glass produced throughout the Elwood community since the earliest days of the Indiana Gas Boom, more than 100 years ago. It's held during the third weekend of August from Friday-Sunday and includes a parade, carnival rides, bus tours, food, collectibles, demonstrations, and contests. The festival is crowded but manageable and most Indianapolis festival-goers will likely consider it fairly modest compared to some Indy fests. The crowd was friendly when I attended and accessibility is fairly solid with the obvious exception of some of the carnival rides. The glass festival is considered family friendly and admission is free. The festival takes place in Callaway Park, an Elwood city park that is rather nice sized. The Elwood Glass Festival also includes The Vintage Rollers Car Show that brings more than 300 classic and antique cars each year along with live bands and other entertainment at the Jim Knoop Amphitheater inside Callaway Park. Free bus tours are available daily and include stops at Carol's Legacy Glass and the Historic Elwood Opera House. Both of these are worth the short trip up from Indy. The Elwood Glass Festival is only about an hour North of Indy if that. It's an easy drive and a great day trip with Anderson about 30 minutes from Elwood. This is definitely a festival worth putting on the family calendar.

Last night was the third time I attended Harvest Nights. This was the first time I arrived before it was dark so it was less spooky and a bit more wholesome in the daylight. We arrived at 7 and stayed until about 9 pm to experience everything lit up after dark. When you arrive, you're surrounded by stacks of pumpkins in every size, shape, color and type imaginable. Beautiful Fall arrangements are everywhere you look. The Fungi Forest was something new I haven't seen before. Very cool! I felt a bit like Alice in Wonderland encompassed by giant mushrooms towering above illuminated by strategically placed neon lights. One of the highlights of the event was the Cutwater Lounge--a 21+ space upstairs in the Lily House transformed into "Mischief Manor" only for Harvest Nights. The bartender told me this was the first year having this feature. We had a flight of the Cutwater alcoholic beverages that included a snack mix of tasty treats. The Mule and Espresso Martini were our favs with the margarita coming in 3rd. Cutwater's take on the Lemon Drop (which is a drink I typically enjoy) was strong yet tasted a bit watered down. The adult only experience wasn't very well marked (it's upstairs) and signage in general--starting at the parking lot entrance--needs improvement. I'm not sure we would have known about the adult area had it not been for the nice lady who sold us some yummy sweet potato fries with sage and bourbon maple dip. The Spider Stomp, Ghost Train and light show projected onto the Lily House all add to the overall experience. The seasonal food and drink options are great albeit a bit pricey. Passed on the $12 Bavarian pretzel but had to try Elysian Pumpkin Ale and wanted to try the cider but $14 was a little steep. It's not necessary to spend $20 for premium parking that they pressure you to purchase when you first pull into the lot. I recommend getting there early and wearing some of your best walking shoes. It's a cashless campus so good to keep that in mind. Love Newfields and can't wait for Winterlights in a couple months!

There were tons of decorated pumpkins throughout Newfields. There is a food/drink garden area in the middle with benches to take a break if you want. The Lily house had a long line but we enjoyed going in and seeing all the spooky details inside.

Fyi, they tend to run out of sauerkraut balls pretty early because they're delicious. There's a large artisan area that takes up 2 large tents. There's also some kiddy games here for the younger crowd to play to get little trinkets and prizes. There is a seller from Germany that is always selling hats and the pins and feathers to go with them. It will always be busy, just wait your turn and ask questions. They're super helpful! They'll even measure your head for just the right size hat for you! There's a tent on the other side from the artisan area that has some gambling and adult games if that's your scene; pull tabs, black jack, poke, chuck-a-luck/big 6, mug slide, etc. There's tons of portapots and beer trucks scattered at every end and intersection. There is craft beer, including ciders scattered around, but the main beer ticket buying spot is right in the middle. They take cash or credit! There are bands playing all over the grounds; the gazebo normally has the traditional oompa-pa band, and local favorites who play a variety of music that everyone can dance and sing along to are in 2 tents opposite it. You never hear the bands over each other which is nice. There's plenty of picnic tables throughout the grounds, and they have a great parade Sunday afternoon around 2 that goes down the main Street. So it's definitely a festival for all ages. Just know it normally gets a little crazy later at night with half gallons of beer being passed around. It's definitely worth a drive to check out!

Two of us walked over around 9 am to pick them up. Mind you a line had already formed outside and people were already enjoying their strawberry shortcake. So, we go inside and down to the basement of Christ Church Cathedral. So, we're thinking they had 10 shortcakes in a bag, a tub of strawberries in a container, same for the ice cream and whipped cream. So, when we got back we could make our own when we got a chance. NO!!! We get there and we don't even know how long the shortcakes had been sitting on the tables already made!!!! They had so much juice in them that transporting them was a mess in those flip containers they were in. By the time we got back it was mushy. Some of us didn't even eat them they just weren't fresh like you would get if you had them in line. Next year we won't be doing that. I wish they had them separated. My other coworkers were like why were they already made if you weren't even there yet? We were the only customers down there. No one was in the basement picking up orders. :-/ Hopefully next year will be better by going and getting in line. So, if your company or group of 10 want to order ahead know that they might be sitting for who knows how long....

Usual: I visit the City of Carmel booth to get a thermo lunch bag; I learned about their new logo. I stop by the Carmel Fire Dept. booth to learn about their upcoming Safety Day. The movie theaters have interesting games. This year: I tried a couple of free samples, which I did not like. One vendor was selling macarons on both areas of the festival. Lots of political booths. I seldom find food to purchase, but this year I noticed and tried el Patron food truck because they offered short rib taco, which I have never heard of. I bought 2 short ribs tacos and 1 steak taco with side of mild salsa, which was super hot to me. The tacos needed each lime wedge to moisten the delicious, hearty meats. I would recommend the $16 tacos (with tax). I wanted to listen to the concert tribute to Fleetwood Mac which was OK from where I sat to eat dinner. This year fireworks will be on the 4th. Parade will be on the 4th in the morning with people already placing something to hold their spot.

We started off grabbing a funnel cake and then walked around all the pop up shops! We headed over to the kid zone which was a ton of fun they had bounce houses and a few rides along with a petting zoo with goats, bunnies and horses. We did a pony ride and got to pet and feed the animals! Then to end our day we watched the concerts going on and had a blast listening and dancing to the music. Overall it was a fun experience and we look forward to coming back next year!
