I love the paramount. It's a great place filled with beautiful decor, great staff, great seats, awesome events, and some free stuff like post cards and sometimes CDs of one of their past concerts. It also has so much history and is very passionate about it. Overall this place is wonderful and I highly recommend taking a date here or whatever your heart desires.

It's my first time visiting the beautifully restored Paramount Theatre & Ballroom. Moscow-based, Leonid & Friends performed the music of Chicago, Earth, Wind & Fire and Chaka Khan. The venue, as an historic building, has NO Elevator! The Anderson Paramount Theatre is a historic movie theater located in Anderson, Madison County, Indiana. It opened on August 20, 1929, and at the time was part of the Publix Chain of theaters, owned by Paramount Pictures. The theater was designed by the famous movie theater architect, John Eberson.

The Paramount Theatre Centre & Ballroom is one of Anderson, Indiana's pride and joys, a true classic theatre that has somewhat miraculously been maintained despite being quite literally days away from being torn down in the mid-90s. The Paramount opened in 1929, a John Eberson creation that had the initial misfortune of opening up just as the Great Depression was getting started. It was opened with a plan for vaudeville and movies and at opening had 1,700 seats. The Paramount is an atmospheric theatre and it maintains much of that atmosphere to this day. It was designed by resemble a Spanish Casa with wrought-iron gates, statues, and a ceiling painted with stars that really did twinkle. Clouds were projected onto the ceiling and they would move across the "sky." Because of the timing of building, plans went from a seven-story structure design to three stories with the ballroom on the top floor. There were originally 155 theatres nationwide constructed by Eberson - 12 remain and Indiana has two (the Embassy in Fort Wayne being the other). In 1985, the Paramount closed for 4 years and by 1989 had experienced eight different owners. It was facing the wrecking ball with plans for a parking lot. It was only 3 weeks before the final ordinance would approve tearing down the Paramount that a local lawyer who worked across the street was watching a television show about restoration and came up with and quickly put into action a plan to save the Paramount. It was no small task to attempt restoration - the Paramount had gone four years without heat and cooling and had significant water leaks and other major damage. In January 1995, the restoration began and while it continues to this day by June the first concert took place in the restored Paramount - Sammy Kaye and the McGuire Sisters. The theatre now has wider seating and has been reduced to 1,458 seats - having attended multiple events here including music and film festivals, it looks and feels enormous. All the statues along the wall are original. There's a catwalk along the ceiling to access lights (all 221 of them). The theatre screen is 40' x 20' and is the second largest in Indiana. The Grande Page Organ is still in place and is one of only three such pipe organs remaining in their original theatres. In 1997, it was restored and even enlarged. The Paramount even hosts the annual American Theatre Organ Society convention. In 2015, a new sound reinforcement system was donated along with new aisle lights. You can rent the theatre - in addition to the 1,458 seats it has 10 dressing rooms and on-stage seating for up to 60 guests. You can also rent the Hardacre Ballroom and Marquee Room - the ballroom has 6,000 square feet with an original hardwood floor and the Spanish Villa-themed terrace room with a kitchenette. The Marquee Room is a smaller room appropriate for 70 guests. It does have an accented fireplace. Being that this is largely a vintage theatre, accessibility is certainly hit-and-miss, though they've done very well in most public areas. The theatre does have an elevator, though it does not allow access to all spaces. They offer public tours and specifically note that to do the complete tour some stairs are involved. As a theatre on the National Register of Historic Places, it is exempt but I've been able to enjoy every event I've attended here and the staff members are always exceptionally helpful as needed. If you've never experienced the Paramount, it's worth a trip - they host many special events throughout the year (the 80's band Night Ranger is playing there tomorrow night!). Anderson is actually a rather cool city with lots of sights worth seeing and a chance to check out the Paramount and that amazing organ is definitely worth it.

Our foodie group went to Mud Creek Players one Saturday afternoon after brunch to see the play "I…read morelove you, you're perfect . . .now change." This was my first time coming here to see a play, so I was looking forward to the performance. It has been a long time since I have seen a play at a local community theater, so this was a treat for me. The play did not disappoint me at all. The actors did a wonderful job with the performance. The play is based on a Broadway musical, and it had a little bit of everything from singing to acting with different skits throughout the play. I was laughing and even crying a little bit throughout the play. Mud Creek Players is a great venue in Indianapolis that offers community theater plays and sketches for entertainment. The interior is definitely like an old style stage and theater with a concession stand in the front. All proceeds from the concession stand sales go towards a foundation for the theater. It is a very nice venue and the staff are wonderful and friendly. The play was excellent and entertaining like I said earlier, and it was worth the ticket price of $20. I'm glad I was able to see a play here at Mud Creek Players, and will definitely come back here again to see a play because it was great entertainment for a Saturday afternoon. So glad Indy has culture available to us!

Enjoyable outdoor version of Alice in Wonderland. The large cast did an awesome job considering…read morethe limitations of having to move/remove props themselves as the action progresses. The audience was seated either at tables or were free to sit on the grass. Several groups brought blankets to spread out with some bringing food to eat while they watched the performance. It was a great low key performance. Although tickets were free they did need to be reserved in advance. And donations are accepted which I didn't realize until a friend noticed a small sign and basket on the way out. So if you go and enjoy the performance I'm sure donations are most welcome.
