Cafe Bali, as close to authentic Indonesian Restaurant there can be in the Netherlands. I've been…read moreto many Indonesian Restaurants in the country, and all have been great but Cafe Bali has made it to the top of my list! The restaurant served a wide variety of Indonesian food, not only Balinese but all Indonesian food. The food was close to being the original Indonesian food you can get on the streets of Indonesia or Indonesian restaurants all over Indonesia. I highly recommend their food here, it met my expectations. Only problem I had was the service. It was VERY slow, and I mean VERY slow as there was only one waitress for a full restaurant. It took us almost an hour to get our food, but it was ok as it was worth it! Highly recommend the place if you are in the Alkmaar area and want some decent Indonesian meal.

I found the cafe bali by yelp and made a reservation by phone. As we arrived the restaurant Was full. This seems to be a good sign. But as we ordered we recognized that the service was very very slow indeed. They were two waitresses and two cookers but we have to wait one and a half hour to get our food. And there was some rice missing We called them three times and waited 30 mins to get it. The food was very good. It's at pity that's the service is so bad. They were polite but it took to long. And finally they want to put the rice on the bill but it was included in the bill! Sorry but I think we don't come again.

We missed an opportunity in Amsterdam due to our chosen restaurant being fully booked. We chose to eat here as our last dinner before flying home. The restaurant is beautiful and spacious inside. We were among the early parties, so the space was warming up for the night. Our guidebook recommended having a Dutch Rijtsttafel, and what better place to have it! This is a family-run establishment with a long history. Our menus came with Java-Bode, their house publication, detailing their 40-year history. The walls are adorned with vintage KLM Royal Dutch Airlines airplanes and advertisements. I love their nod to Dutch aviation. Our rijtsttafel was very enjoyable. It's hard to keep track of everything on the table, so I kept a menu for reference. What a great way to conclude our time in Holland!

We didn't realize how popular De Lachende Javaan is--they were completely fully booked! The owner noticed we were visiting from out of town and was incredibly accommodating. He explained the situation but managed to squeeze us in, provided we could eat relatively quickly before the next reservation arrived. We were so grateful because the meal ended up being fantastic. Since it was our first time trying Indonesian food, we went with the Rijsttafel Biasa (the smallest menu option). It was a variety of small plates served on portable burners to keep everything warm, accompanied by rice. It was the perfect introduction--there wasn't a single dish I didn't love. Even though the plates look small, we were completely full and satisfied by the end. We managed to finish just in time for the reserved party to take the table, so it worked out perfectly. Highly recommend booking a table in advance, but if you get the chance to eat here, definitely do it!
