I am a 40 year beginner/ intermediate that sometimes takes a break for a year or two. Every time I go here I increase my education of guitars and music. I bought an Acoustic Alvarez that I play every day. They have a great selection of beginning and mid price guitars but also have high end Martins and Taylors. Prices are competitive with Revere and Sweetwater. What stands out for me is their patience and understanding with a beginner. Jeff, their guitar guy has a wealth of knowledge on all types of guitars and amps. The store does get busy! Give yourself some time if you are searching for an instrument.

I don't understand the litany of bad reviews this store received. People seem to not understand…read morethat this isn't a business that simply caters to an immediate transactional need. These guys are not minimum wage cashiers waiting on you hand-and-foot. It appears that most of the reviews come from uptight affluent class customers who don't understand that this is a multifaceted business and things may take longer than 5 minutes. If you are so desperate to get your needs met than do your own research and buy online. This isn't the banana republic or burger king. If you're patient and have the capacity of a reasonable person you will be rewarded with the answers to your questions. I've only ever had good experiences with this store and ultimately saved myself a lot of heartache and time by getting to a dialogue with one of the employees. Go to the right department and if your so inconvenienced by the fact you need documentation and a credit check for an instrument than do the sensible thing and just buy a $150 guitar. I seriously doubt at 7 years old your kid is a sonic maestro or prodigious lyricist. Entitled morons. Portman's is awesome!

I needed a cheap glass slide for an acoustic guitar. GC had a selection of sizes and composition by ring size. I took one off the rack for $4.95. It rang up as $6.95. I bought it anyway.Almost bought a capo. Again they had a good selection of choices. They had a large rack of guitar straps I was impressed with the selection of guitars both electric and acoustic. In the acoustic they had a great selection of $100-$350. I pulled a Martin D10e for $795? off the wall and strummed for a few minutes playing a CCR tune. In the corner was a young salesperson playing a soft picking song. Never looked up from their playing to inquire if I needed any help. They continued to play as I strummed. A couple entered the acoustic room and asked a question. They got a quick answer and left for another part of the store for a tuner. Given the lack of personal attention, I would recommend going to Portman's for an instrument. Jeff in guitars is great. Guitar Center needs to work on their customer service. Still for accessories they have a nice assortment and larger selection. I didn't have time to check out the string selection but will return soon and update.

Being in an area where there are at LEAST 5 different pawn/cash loan/ jewelry/Gun/Electronic shops…read morein a 20 mile radius i recommend going to ANY other one other than Mr. Cash. Terrible service (workers wont even acknowledge you until you stand in front of them for 5 minutes staring at them until they say,"What do you need?") And TERRIBLE experience! 1st time ever having to do a pawn/small cash loan ( and I hope sincerely that you never have to either) because my daughters Disney World school trip fees were due and I wouldn't have been able to cover the cost before my paycheck came in. The pawn terms are very predatory. When I was given the loan I was under the impression, and explained to in a matter where there is a interest fee, and the principle amount. Once the interest is paid, then any payments made after were to be applied towards the principle as long as a minimum payment is made (or so I thought!). In my case, the interest fee and minimum amount was to be $50 while the loan/principle was $200. I made 5 payments of $50 and wasnt told until I asked how much i still owed, that I still owed $250! After already paying $250 for a $200 loan and learning that NONE of my payments were counted towards the principle and that I still owed $250 to get my things back was heart dropping. Ive never been so disgusted with greed (other than pharmaceutical) than i was dealing with Mr. Cash. Yes, it was, in the end my fault. But, to hope for just basic decency shouldn't be too much to ask. After seeing me make multiple payments and KNOWING that NONE of them are counting you would HOPE that SOMEONE would say, "Hey, ive seen that you've made multiple payments and I dont know if you know but, if you make (such and such amount) payment it will count towards your principle. As of now its not". If I would not have asked, they would have allowed me to just keep on paying until I was at 100x the original worth. Go anywhere else. Literally next door is another pawn shop and they are friendly, explaining, and have better fee rates.

I live in Savannah, GA which is a one-hour drive from TC Outdoors in Statesboro, GA. The Savannah area population is 14 times greater than Stateboro's and other than pawn shops we have 12 gun stores including BassPro/Cabela's and Dick's Sporting Goods. Meanwhile Statesboro only has two locally-owned gunshops one of which is TC Outdoors. It follows that gun and accessory prices should be less in Savannah than Statesboro and even better deals are usually obtainable through big volume websites. Shopping for a new Tikka T3X 30-06 rifle I invested a lot of time gathering prices from all the above sources. At $105 below MSRP TC Outdoors beat them all. I also needed a scope, range finder, shotgun, hard-shell gun case, and shotgun ammo. Knowing exactly what I wanted and having researched prices through the big volume websites, TC Outdoors prices were the same to only 10% higher for the shotgun shells. Surprisingly they had everything I wanted in stock and to support a locally-owned business I was happy to pay slightly more for the ammo. TC's owner, Ty, and his staff are exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable, and mounted/bore-sighted the rifle scope for me. I reload my rifle and handgun ammo and was glad to see TC also stocks those items plus abundant fishing or other outdoor gear and accessories.

Over the weekend he decided he'd rather get the gen 6 in black and change the color. I paid $550 (plus tax etc - $600 total) for the gen 5. I expected to eat the tax, fees and maybe a $50 restocking fee ($100 or so) and then buy the new one $700. They would have made $700 plus $100 on the one I returned and still gotten $550 by selling it again. Instead they wanted to give me $400 for a gun I just gave them $600 for three days ago. I haven't even taken it out of the box. The kid (and I mean kid) was smug the whole time. He tried to tell me that it had deprecated $150 in three days. I even offered to meet them in the middle. They were essentially shaking me down for what ammounted to a $200 restocking fee. Now either they overcharged me for the gun a few days ago or they were trying to screw me on the exchange, it's one or the other. They tried to get the $200 profit they made the first time, plus another $200 on the return or $400 profit on a gun they say is only worth $400. Instead they lost the sale of a new gen 6 along with a customer. I'll never go there again and I'd suggest you don't either.
