Requiring a credit card to see a pediatric patient with an immediate injury, even though the patient has had 100% verified insurance in their own system, and you also have a very good PPO in network with them (or so they say) is just ridiculous. and if you ask them not to keep the credit card info in their system for privacy reasons, they simply say well then we refuse to see you. Even if you offer to pay cash. That is very suspicious. That is also not doing the best thing for patients. This needs to change. The trouble started today, as they called to let me know I missed my appointment. Trouble is they sent the schedule to me back in October. My appointment was not at the time they called for, not to mention the day was wrong also. When I called back to let the desk person was telling they changed my schedule, why not tell or better yet ask the patient if that would be okay. I am going there tomorrow to get all this junk fixed.

The staff is friendly, they run on time (a must for any place in my book) and the doc takes the time to hear what your issue is and then works to solve the problem- in some cases- on the spot with protective padding and other helpful suggestions. The down side for me was he was also quick with shots of cortisone which only masked the pain but didn't really solve the issue which I had to find another doctor to do. Pain shots might be a good solution for some but that's not really the way I want to live. Dr. Salvino has been around a long time so clearly his patients like his approach. It just wasn't the kind of care that I was hoping for.

He recommended Shock Wave, which I had immediate relief the day after the session. This is a very tricky thing to fix as anyone with PF will tell you. After the second Shock wave treatment I was about 85% better. He also added stem cell injections into the heel that will regenerate and fix the inflamed heel tendons and muscles. I'm one-week past that injection and finally feel for the first time in over 10 years, that I might be pain free in my heels! What a blessing and he got farther with my feet than the chiro and podiatrist before him. Thanks team Salvino!

Fortunately, they had an MRI available at another location. However, when I went to see the scheduler to schedule my mom's MRI, that was where we experienced the most disservice. The scheduler assisting us was Sara, and she was the most condescending, insulting, and arrogant person I have ever met. First, she called my mom's name, and I told my mom that I could speak on her behalf to get the appointment scheduled. Sara replied with an annoyed tone, "I need the patient. I have questions for her to answer." I explained that I handle all my mom's scheduling and that she gives me full consent to assist her. Sara responded, "Why do you know all her history?" So, I asked my mom to come up just to get it over with. Then, Sara asked if my mom spoke English, and my mom answered "Yes." Sara responded with an insulting look and said, "Do you speak English... WELL?" My mom pointed to me and said she would tell me if there was something she didn't understand. Then, Sara asked my mom what her primary language was, saying it was needed to arrange for a translator. She continued asking question after question, which both my mom and I answered. Afterward, Sara asked, in a condescending tone, "Are you going with her to the MRI appointment?" I said yes, and she replied, "Okay, because I don't know how good our translators are." Then, Sara said the earliest appointment she had available was on the 28th, which was a Friday. If that didn't work, she had Saturday available. I told her I would prefer Saturday, as I work Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. She responded in a condescending and insulting tone, "No, not Saturday. Erase that. She can only go Monday to Friday because she needs a translator." I explained that my mom understood the language, but Sara insisted, "No, she needs a translator. Forget I said Saturday. She cannot go on that day." I reminded her that I would be accompanying my mom, especially since she had asked if I was going, as she wasn't sure how good the translators were. Despite this, she insisted that my mom could not go on the Saturday appointment. I finally told her to forget it and that we would go with an outside provider who could accommodate us on a Saturday. I don't understand why my mom couldn't go on the Saturday appointment when I can translate for her. It wasn't my mom's first time having an MRI--she had previously had MRIs of her brain and neck. I don't understand why she was making such a big deal out of it. I thought Sara would help us make it work, but instead, we felt mistreated and insulted by her actions and words.

I scheduled a free 30-minute intro session at the Western Springs location hoping to see if this…read morecould help with overall health and wellness. I am not tight overall, rather hypermobile in most joints; however, I have been seeing PTs and massage therapists for targeted work on the few muscles that are over-worked due to due my hypermobility. I like that Stretch Zone is a drop-in option for days I might be having more pain, so I went to see if I might add this to my treatment options. My stretch-practitioner introduced himself by name and asked if I had an area of the body that I wanted to focus on, so I explained I had neck and left arm/hand pain and wished to focus there. He didn't given his qualifications, but mentioned he'd worked previously in a gym. I had read on-line that the practitioners complete a week-long training and are encouraged to have certifications in personal training and/or massage, but I am not sure if he did. Oddly, there was no medical history taken, which may have been helpful as I have both Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (joint hypermobility) and cancer, but I do not have cancer in my arm/neck, which is where we focused. The stretches were for the most part very basic and performed laying on my back or sitting up on the table. They were not like the targeted stretches provided by my PT or the massage therapists that I see, where they locate and work on the smaller muscles that are in spasm. Mostly he provided general stretches like "upper trap", "bicep" and "tricep". The trunk stretch felt good. Each stretch was performed 3 times, held for a certain amount of time. As my larger muscles are not tight, he was able to bring me to end-range in all joints, so I didn't experience a "stretch" but more of assisted movement, which was fine. Our session started late and the final minutes were used to explain the packages available for purchase- so I only received about 15-16 minutes of stretching, which was enough actually. I was hoping it was going to be more like a Thai massage, which I love, but it was more like just being moved through typical ranges of motion by someone very nice and attentive, but the work was not as precise as I was hoping for. The facility is clean. Free parking. Scheduling on-line was easy. I think if you are really tight and like having someone stretch you, this could be an option for you, but at $85 for a 30-minute session it may make more sense to book a PT or a massage therapist. My practitioner reminded me to hydrate and he recommended that I return weekly for stretch sessions. I will continue instead with my PT and massage therapists, which are more targeted and more cost-effective.
