Firstly, the airport is doing some major construction and the walkway between the arrival terminal and baggage claim is scaffolded. There were construction workers using leaf blowers to blow dust around (toward the pedestrian walkway) both times I flew through AVL this year. Because of construction arriving passenger pick up is quite crowded and disorganized, so just hope for the best until construction ends. There's not a long going on in here once you're through security - a bar, a coffee shop, a Jimmy John's and a "smoothie cafe". Nothing was open either time I flew through here, so probably plan to BYO everything for feeding yourself in this airport to your destination or connection. My service issues were disability boarding related. I have an "invisible" disability that requires more time to board the plane and I always preboard with United. While this specific issue may not be owned by the airport (gate agents are typically employed by the airline), but happened in the airport and is relevant enough to all travelers that I do want to share here. Security was fine, and Pre-Check was just as fast as any other small airport. Through in 5 minutes or less. At boarding, however, despite wearing my sunflower lanyard, the gate agents saw no wheelchairs and skipped disability preboarding altogether. If this happened once I'd let it go, but it happened repeatedly at AVL. I have flown through dozens of even smaller airports than AVL that do disability preboarding correctly. AVL United gate agents do not. AVL is almost impossible to get to/from without a rideshare, rental car, or someone picking you up. I did successfully use transit to get to Asheville downtown from AVL, but I got lucky on the timing with my check bag coming out in time to catch the bus with 5min to spare. The buses only run between the airport and downtown every 90 minutes, which means too infrequently for airport employees to rely on transit to come to work. There is also a hotel across the street for those with morning flights, but the construction fencing is situated such that it didn't feel super safe to walk from the hotel to the airport 100 yards away.

They…read morework hard to ensure they get you as close to on time as possible and if you're going to be late, they work hard to be efficient when the flight arrives late, to get you to your connection. It's sad that most reviews are 1 or 2 stars and are from inexperienced travelers... those who fly only a few times a years who have unrealistic expectations and knowledge of traveling (and they show this with how they conduct themselves in the airport!)... I've been traveling my entire life, now flying 2 to 3 times per month and understand the challenges that affect flying (the FAA and weather are the 2 greatest!!!) and yes, I get frustrated during delays and cancellations too! But I know here to point blame and it's not on this hard working staff. I always have a very nice experience with AA!

Thats the opposite direction! They then proceeded to cancel that and took her to NYC. which was then routed to Dallas. yeah, the cows are the problem for global warming huh? she had to wait overnight in the airport to catch her next flight because she was 2 hours from home. they offered no accommodations. I will never book with them again.

Due to the ongoing terminal reconstruction, navigating the maze of ramps between the aircraft and terminal also seemed unnecessarily difficult and confusing. That said, our departure experience the next morning was the complete opposite. The morning agents were exceptionally pleasant, professional, and efficient, making the process smooth and stress-free. Hopefully the arrival-side experience improves once construction is complete, because the staff we encountered later showed how good the service can be.

Mostly I'm grateful that they thoroughly checked out the plane and fixed the mechanical problem, so the delay was just a minor inconvenience.
