Filthy inside and out, scratches and dents all over it, 2 missing hubcaps, and mechanically on its last leg - when you tried to accelerate, the engine would rev like crazy before it engaged and the alignment was so bad that I had to fight to keep the thing going straight. Rented a car from here through Costco travel.com. Got a very good deal on it. Booked an all wheel drive and received one. This turned out to be very important because of the huge storm that came through northern North Carolina. There were many cars that were in a ditch, turned around on the wrong side of the road, after losing control from the snow and ice storm. Meanwhile, I was fine! I received a Hyundai Tucson. Lane guidance, cruise control, and alerts were all working. The navigation and stereo were great too. The seat was so comfortable. I loved the low back inflatable support system. I set it to my liking. I also appreciated the heated seat and heated steering wheel!!! What a nice little SUV. Gas mileage was good, too. The guy at the counter was ok. He was nice. For some reason he called the lady in lane behind me, before me. I'm not sure why that happened. So my friend was making fun of me for not jumping right up when it was my turn. I dunno. I wasn't really in a hurry but yeah that was weird. I'm not sure how he didn't know I was there for a car? Who just stands in line at the car rental desk? I was still waiting for my checked bag to arrive so I didn't protest. Aside from that, I waived all the extra insurance blah blah and then when that storm hit- I wondered if I should have gotten it? I could control my car but I did not know who was approaching on the other side of the road! Luckily not many people were stupid enough to drive in that storm. Mostly just me. All in all, it was a nice car and I'm so glad they had it because all wheel drive was a must. My friend's car was spinning its wheels going up a hill and we had to get out to push it. Two wheel drive in ice and snow is not a good idea. Pick up in the garage was easy. Return the keys in the drop box at the desk if they're not there. But they stay pretty late. read more

UPDATE: The response from Alamo just takes me to the same customer service number that's been so useless. They want me to chase my tail, apparently. ORIGINAL REVIEW: If there was a rating for negative stars I would use it! Rented a car at the Asheville Airport on 9/26, the day before Helene hit. Was scheduled to return it on 9/30, but it was physically impossible to get from where I was staying (Franklin, NC) to the airport. Plus, people were being strongly cautioned NOT to attempt travel to Asheville. Still needing to get home on the 30th, I called Alamo customer service to ask if it would be possible under the circumstances to return the car at the Atlanta airport for no additional charge if I was able to get a flight. The person I spoke to checked with a supervisor, and said yes. Once I was able to get a flight I called Alamo again to confirm that I could return the car to Atlanta with no extra charge. Again was told yes. Was charged $371.44 for returning it to a different location. Since then I've called customer service at least 6 times. Every rep I spoke to agreed I shouldn't have been charged, but not refund was issued. Finally, a rep said that this issue could only be resolved by a manager. He filled out a form, and said I would be hearing from the Regional Manager for the Asheville area "as soon as possible." That was last week. I called again 2 days ago to "remind" them that I was waiting for a call, and again was told I'd be hearing back from the regional manager ASAP. Guess what -- no call. From other similar complaints on this site it appears the only was to get Alamo's attention is to post a negative review. Pathetic. read more

BUT when we returned to our destination a few hours later, we realized our son had left a tablet in the car unbeknownst to us (he was not with us at the time of return). We tried reaching the branch directly but we were not successful. We would really like someone to contact us from the branch. The numbers we tried 828-684-8572 and 828-684-3607 and the call would not go through (either ring and ring and/or give an error). We eventually called the 833-969-2397 and spoke to someone at a call center (guessing since it was like an 800-number). They put in a memo about it and I did the same thing online but we haven't heard anything back. I'm starting to feel pretty hopeless after reading the other reviews about forgotten items. Super frustrating when it would not be that hard for them to recover the item and we could arrange to pick it up when we go back in 10 days. I worked in car rental (at an airport) so I get that stuff gets left behind all the time so you don't have the ability to track people down, but if someone is making an effort to recover their item, especially in the same day then you should do your best to satisfy that customer. Great first experience!! I got my rental as a part of a flight/car package with allegiant for my trip to NC for Christmas. Very reasonable price, so I expected a dinky little economy car. The line was long but the staff kept it moving quickly. When it was my turn, I was so pleasantly surprised by a really fun Dodge Charger for the long weekend! The taxes that were added (not included in the online ticket price) seemed a little high, but to be honest, I didn't read the fine print when I booked. The vehicles are on the first floor of the new garage, which is nice and easy. I haven't returned the car yet, and will update if it's anything less than great. Avoid Alamo! I reserved a car here on Thursday 9/15 for pickup 9/16. It was a smooth process, and there was no mention of any debit card rule. I arrive to pick up the car and only have a debit card on me. They do not accept debit cards. So I offer to have my wife call with her credit card. Not allowed. I offer to pay in cash. They don't take cash. I offer to wire money. They do not accept wires. Alamo's rule need updating, or need to be presented clearly at the time of reservations. I accidentally left a hand made wool bird nest about 6" in diameter with two handmade birds sitting in nest. Reserved through Orbitz for a minivan, which showed as a "manager's special" (highest rate). When we got there, there was no minivan - only small SUVs. My family of 6 managed to squeeze in to a RAV4, the lady at the counter said we could drive to Knoxville to swap it for a minivan. Since we didn't want to drive several hrs there, we decided to keep it for the trip. After calling Alamo, they said they'll adjust the rate to reflect what I was given. After 3 more phone calls and waiting a month (being given the runaround that they're working on it), I found out today that I need to call Orbitz for an adjustment. Orbitz said they can't do anything since the "manager's special" is really just you picking from any car available on their lot. There were probably 10 cars to choose from in their garage. I clicked as asked and received two notices that "The email address you are using does not match the email address on the original request." Chris M, or anyone from Alamo, my res number was 1709768945. I am responding to the request for information on my rental experience, which I submitted to Yelp. The following numbers were on my Rental Agreement: Res #1709768945, #225318852. I made the mistake of making my reservation through Allegiant with Alamo for a car rental. 1. Once you make a reservation through Allegiant, you cannot get out of it with a simple phone call. I learned later that it was not necessary for me to rent a car, but by going through Allegiant, there was no easy way out. Long waits for customer service, combined with the threat of being charged to talk with an agent makes for very bad PR. 2. Once I arrived in Asheville, Alamo was the only desk doing any business. There must have been 40 people in line, and only one customer service rep at the desk. Another agent joined in, but the line also grew larger. I knew that the car I wished to rent would not be available, and I was right. By the time I got to the counter, I was asked if I would like a pick-up truck. Not my choice, thank you. I was initially happy to walk right up to the counter and past the lines that were at the other rental car counters. BUT...I was "greeted" by an employee with a very cold attitude. Everything from her tone of voice to her body language indicated she did not want to be there. She did not inform us what kind of car we were getting with the manager's special, simply handing the keys over without making eye contact. She was not helpful and at the end of our transaction, when my wife and I thanked her for helping us, she didn't address us or say a word. I mistakenly left a very expensive purse in the center compartment of the car we rented. I am one hundred percent certain where I left it and what was inside. I have called multiple times and even went to the airport Alamo rental desk and was told no one could help me. They asked me to leave my information and I did. No one has been in contact. Terrible service. The most rude and awful associate working the front desk. Had an issue with my vehicle I was currently renting. Called customer service and roadside assistance and they informed me that this location had a vehicle I could swap into. When I arrived the associate seemed annoyed I had bothered her to come up to the desk, then when I explained the situation informed me, "roadside and corporate are different than us, they aren't us. I don't care what they said, we decide" She then was unwilling to provide a replacement vehicle, which meant my wife and I were left to drive around town to a repair shop to have the car fixed. Worst car rental experience ever. Avoid this place. They failed to honor my Orbitz reservation and left me stranded in the airport after a cancelled flight. The woman working on November 16 was incredibly rude and inconsiderate. Oh, and she advised that she wasn't honoring my reservation only AFTER I waited behind 15 people for an hour due to her inefficiency and ineptitude. The lady at the check in was extremely helpful and polite we enjoyed her helpfulness when picking up our rental. The reason they only get 1 star from me is due to the fact that the vehicle we rented was cover in glass which we didn't discover until later on in the day when I got into the back seat with my baby. 1. my seatbelt wouldn't buckle which at the time I didn't realized it was because of the glass pieces inside. 2. When I slid over to the other seat behind the passenger, my phone fell between the seat under the bench, when I reached down to get it I ended up cutting my finger on glass. 3. I then discovered the door on that side also had glass in the door handle and cup holder. 4. the head rests in the back seat also had tiny glass shards all over it! Needless to say as soon as we could we pulled over and tried to wipe out whatever we could. I was extremely dissatisfied especially since I had my 8 month old riding in the vehicle in the back, also when we returned the vehicle I spoke to man receiving the car and he didn't seem at all concerned or bothered by our findings. If it wasn't for our extremely busy schedule we had looking at properties and meetings we would have went straight back to the airport and demanded another rental! Great experience here when we had quite a mess with our reservations (my fault). I had originally reserved our car for 2 days into our trip, but needed to get it sooner. I made a second reservation, but messed that one up with its dates. There was a long line of other travelers, and the attendant said if we didn't mind letting him help the others he would be happy to sort it all out. A few minutes of waiting paid off. He quickly resolved our issues and also offered us an upgrade for being military. The upgrade to 4x4 was great with there just being snow and all the mountains. Return was easy as could be. The back seats if van had empty drink bottles, snacks , food crumbs, all the surfaces were dirty. Nothing but the front drivers seat cleaned. Alamo wouldnt answer calls . Woohoo! is right! Not only was renting a car at this small, cozy airport a breeze but the counter staff at the Alamo check-in counter were friendly and helpful. But it wasn't until several days after returning my car to the Asheville Regional Airport did I realize that I had left my blue handicap hangtag sticker in the car! Or at least that was the last place I remember having it. I called lost and found, got a return call back saying they hadn't found it, so I thought for sure it was lost forever. (It's something I need to make mobility easier for me when parked). To my surprise and delight, my handicap hangtag showed up on my front steps via FedEx yesterday. This was by far the easiest and most pleasant rental car experience I've had. The desk staff at both pick up and return were extremely friendly and seemed genuinely interested in making sure we were happy. I had prepaid and reserved a car online prior to our flight, but they ran out of that car class and upgraded us at no charge. The only issue we had was that our rental had no floor mats, so we had to make due with some newspaper for the wet an muddy days. We explained that when returning the car and weren't penalized.
