The drive out from Portland is long, but after you get here the trip is really enjoyable, we often try to plan a night somewhere closer. It's 12$ for a 2 hour visit, they do take credit cards. We tend to be here mid week mid day so we have not had any issue with parking. There are always other people present, but it has never seemed overly busy. The staff we interact with are always very pleasant. There is a bathroom in the parking lot. It's a short walk up to the hot springs, I'm confident mostly anyone could do this. It's nice to feel like you are in nature. I imagine this was a much more beautiful area before the fires, but I am thankful that it did reopen and is usable. Do make sure you bring some water to stay hydrated while hot springing. Do be aware that sometimes people are unclothed at hot springs. Also know that hot springs are hot and this may not be how you want to spend a hot day. There are multiple pools of multiple sizes which do vary in heat. There is a small stream with cold water running nearby. There are places to sit where you can be partially in the water. If you are planning to walk around a lot you may want water shoes as these rocks can be hot on your feet. We always have a nice time and leave feeling rejuvenated. I keep meaning to look into camping options nearby. I'd love to experience this with some friends on my next visit.

The meeting place was well described to us and followed up with an email. The shuttle was right on time. Chris was very personable. I loved his knowledge of the area and information he shared with us regarding the bike ride we were about to go on. He also had detailed maps of the 26 mile rides for us and also described some specific areas of the trail. I have been on many shuttles. What I loved most about Chris is that at the end he wanted to make sure everyone was ok and no questions that anyone had were left unanswered. He did not rush off. Thank you!!

This review is for the Mtn bike rental and shuttle for the Mackenzie river trail…read more The good: the trail is worth the drive (from anywhere) and the questionable service. You're riding along the Mackenzie river on a single track trail for up to 25 miles. The scenery is amazing. The water is roaring and clear. The trail is very well maintained. I'm glad this business exists and people have an opportunity to explore this terrific landscape. The bad: we showed up and the guy behind the desk was stressed and had a lot of anxiety. It was only us and one other group of two people. We planned on doing the entire trail (25 miles) but were told the top 9 miles is very technical and we should only do the bottom 16 miles. We submitted and said okay. Unfortunately, where we dropped off only allowed for 10 miles of beginner riding. I called when we finished and they said it was a miss-communication on their part and would take us further up. We went further up and did the next 10 miles. There was one mile of pretty technical riding where we had to stop riding and walk a decent amount. The rest of the time was all beginner/intermediate riding. When finished we couldn't call the shop to get picked up because there was no service. We rode along the road until there was service and called and txted the driver 11 times. No answer. We finally called the shop and were informed that "his phone was on the charger." They said he would be here to pick us up in 15 minutes. 30 minutes later I called back and got a lot of attitude from the front desk staff saying "we have other things to do to." Luckily it was an amazing ride. Really hoping they can get their communication and customer service dialed in!

Black Bears Do Live Here. Belknap has gorgeous garden trails…read moreand the views are spectacular. Unfortunately the facilities are overdue for a renovation and the lady at the front desk is rude for no reason, as mentioned by so many other reviewers. Yes, we had a visit from a black bear yesterday around 8:00 am in site #20. We watched him as he clambered around just a few feet from our trailer. He walked all around the campground, following along a common guest trail. When we called to report it (we were excited) the lady told us flat out it was "impossible" and there has "never" been a bear sighting. In 50 years ? I was taken aback by her gruff attitude. For your family's safety, just be aware that black bears do live in Central Oregon and might stroll into this campground looking for a yummy picnic basket.

I would love this place despite and inspite of horrible horrible treatment for a person traveling with a service dog. BEWARE. They are quick to judge and expect you are lying about your service animal. I am 65, my friend I met up with 68. Women traveling alone and separately, coming long distances. They tried to evict us at 8:45pm our last night due to minor complaint about my dog barking for 10 minutes. I refused and stood my ground as the prospect of suddenly traveling in the dark back home when we were headed to bed was totally unacceptable, unreasonable and unsafe for us. They called me a liar about my service dog and wanted me to tell them what my disability is!! Like they needed to judge for themselves. I offered in scheduling to show them the certification (but they apparently legally cannot ask for proof that I offered). Discriminatory and inhumane behavior towards a person in a protected class! BEWARE of this place! No compassion or humanity when it counts! I told them to call the police to remove us, but we were not leaving as evicting us at that hour and suddenly having to drive for hours on a mountain road (for a minor infraction) was uncalled for and I refused. Shocking to say the least. Disappointing as I have been visiting Belknap for over 10 years and they did this to me and my friend. They have no compassion or reason here. They suspect people are lying. I was truly shocked at their behavior.
