I am not a happy camper ... the end of August, I had Charlie order 670 Sqft . of Blue-Rye (High Quality) Sod and have his crew install the sod for me ... This is only because I am way too old to be on my hands and knees, for the time needed to lay the sod myself. In retrospect, I regret that I didn't ...l as I WOULD HAVE DONE a much more professional job. Instead, I gave them a tip ... only because I didn't have to put the sod Down... and didn't see "HOW POOR of a JOB" until the morning after ... The sod was local fresh cut from Delta Bluegrass Company here in Stockton and was of excellent quality cut rolls. The "Installation of it" was not. Left with poorly laid, gap-ridden, and torn sides on a few rolls from poor handling techniques, I was less than impressed. Having said that, grass can be repaired ... which the next morning, I proceeded to fill in all the gaps between the sod with topsoil, and had to buy some "expensive" Blue-Rye seed that is very hard to come by ... to fill in the seams and oversees a few other areas ... Even though the sod was poorly laid ... that is all correctable easily enough. My Main issue was the "lack of quality" and general overall "professionalism" ... I had reminded them several times to watch to not step on my sprinkler heads and I had spent a week on getting them adjusted and set to the proper depth... I witnessed them step on a few of them more than once, on several different occasions. The Biggest insult was when they had finished and had time to test the sprinkler coverage, someone forgot to cut out the opening for the sprinkler to "Pop up" ... so, when they tried to find it, stepping all over the sprinkler head and compressing it even further down in the ground. This now cannot be repaired until the sod has had a chance to firmly grow in place and establish itself before I can dig it up to repair the groundwork and raise the sprinkler heads back up to height. I would recommend "Delta Bluegrass Company" for your SOD, but I would think twice before hiring "Delta Charlie Sod" for installation work. Unless he does the work himself or brings a professional team of installers. One that won't undo 3 weeks of prep work to undo in an hour-and-a-halftimespan ... If I had the money, I would literally tear off 2/3rds of the sod, and redo my sprinkler heads, (3 of 8 were stepped on and compressed lower, one is requiring correction within about 6 weeks... the others can wait unless they sink lower once I START MOWING. so, I feel I got a great deal on the sod, negated by unprofessional workmanship. I felt Charlie knew what he was doing, but his crew was "Clueless". read more

Talk about five-star experience. We've been slowly landscaping our backyard after a pool installation this past fall. We had two sections of lawn area formatted by our new concrete decking added to the backyard (roughly 250 sq ft a piece) and we added irrigation and top soil ourselves. When it came time to shop for sod installation, Delta Charlie rose to the top for 3 reasons: - responsiveness: I called and spoke with Charlie at around 1pm on a Wednesday, and he was at my house ready to install within a few hours with his crewman Mike. Complete with the exact sod type I had requested. They were done laying, cutting and forming the sod within an hour after that. Incredible!! - customer service: Charlie was direct, informative and 100% transparent. He told me what varieties were available, per my backyard needs, and provided a price that was competitive and felt like a great value for what we ultimately ended up with. On top of that, Charlie and his crewman Mike, were polite and great to talk with. I've been working with Charlie since March 2021. While it took a while to get things done, I've never felt that he was neglecting his work. Some things he's a perfectionist on, some things - not so much. But he stands by his work. We are still dealing with the smaller issues (weeds in the sod, old bermuda grass growing, bare patches, etc) but he is on top of it. Since he took over for another company that was doing really bad work, I'm happy with the quality of the work and his attitude toward fixing issues that come up. I always feel I can text him and get a response. I give lots of advice and ask lots of questions. He takes everything in stride and gives me information I need to keep the grass looking good and caring for it well. He hasn't steered me wrong yet. So I read his reviews and unfortunately I didn't read the dates. I met Charlie seem like a great guy definitely a great salesman but that's about all he was good at. Not once did they show up on time there were times they didn't show up at all multiple days to take care of my backyard multiple errors multiple excuses I tried my best to be patient thought he's a nice guy but the bottom line is my backyard is full of weeds he didn't treat it prior to laying the sod now I know nothing about the steps so I put complete faith in him because he guaranteed me that I was going to have the most beautiful yard when it was done sprinklers watered my house and my fence had to have those fixed still have a sprinkler not in the right spot weeds everywhere in my brand new sod after losing it on him he apologized said it wouldn't happen again he was going to be on time and have good follow through assured me he would call this week so he could come out and treat all those weeds and here I sit Friday night no phone call. He pretreated crab grass weeds took out all the old stuff he and his crew worked really hard to give us back a beautiful green lawn again. OMG!!! I can't begin to tell you about the 2 WONDERFUL experiences we had after hiring Delta Charlie Sod. When we first thought of hiring them we were looking for sod and then we were told that we were on water restrictions so we changed it to rock. We had them come out and give us an estimate for doing rock in our large front yard. You talk about a beautiful landscape. I believe that GOD had and idea for both of us as it took a formation like none we'd thought of. Too bad I can't send pictures, anyways it was fabulous!! Three different kinds of rocks and a stone trim around the whole project. We topped it off with beautiful large decorative standing clay pots that they hooked up to a drop system and ran them up inside to water any plants that we want to put inside. I Love my beautiful yard and ask myself why we never thought of this before when the grass died so often. It really adds to the look of our home and we get wonderful compliments from everyone that comes to our home. He was very reasonable for ALL the work they had to do, escalating, hand moving dirt and everything. It took about a few days total to make his masterpiece. The second time we called them was for the sod in our backyard. This February. He came back out and cleared and cleaned his area and then the sod was in Ina few days and WOW! Charlie and his team removed our lawn, front and back, over two days and we couldn't be happier. The front was rototilled and ready for us to plant in. We had gravel delivered and Charlie and his team laid the gravel in the back for us. They even came in under their initial estimate for laying the gravel. We had a tree stump in our yard that Charlie removed for free, and they also repaired/replaced our damaged irrigation components for free. When it was all over, they power washed the road and driveway and left it cleaner than when they started. He came to check and pulled up the sod, showing me the bugs that eat grass(Grub worms). Told me he lost over 5000sqft of sod to these bug. Now my 1800 sqft is a loss too. Charlie just finished doing some sod work for me. I couldn't be happier. My lawn was ruined by an invasion of poa Annula. If you don't know what that is, you're lucky. I wanted new sod but he advised me to kill what poa was left, to give the new grass a fighting chance. Good advice. So he sodded a large area of the backyard and then came back and did a small area in front and some spots. Along the way I got some good TLC with respect to insects and fungus. The lawn looks great.
