Kay has been my accountant for two years now, and she has blown me away with her professionalism, reasonable fees, and willingness to go above and beyond. It's been a very busy couple of months, so I didn't get around to doing anything about my tax return until the last minute this year, but she reached out to me to ask about it, and then took care of everything. I was assuming we would have to file an extension, and I said okay to doing that, but she was able to go ahead and get the return filed and taxes paid by the deadline. And her work, both years, has been excellent. For the price she charges - and especially compared to what the big chains charge you just for the software - Kay is an absolute steal. I worked with Anu, Kay and Donna for over 3 years. During the time we worked together, they were mostly great. Unfortunately, you don't know what you don't know. And when you're working with a payroll company that is not forthright with you, this can be a very bad mistake. I have been reluctant to write this review. I have attempted to be as honest, descriptive, & objective as possible in this review. As this story will show, it is clear that they were either disastrously incompetent or stole from my company. I own two companies. One became its own entity in June 2016. Throughout all of Q3 & Q4 I kept receiving notifications from the IRS that money was owed, I notified Anu at DE, & it was just brushed aside, them saying that it's all taken care of (at least 4-5 letters). Then, on 4/11/16 I received a notification from the IRS that 3,642.00 was overpayed on my Form 941 for 717 Marketing Inc. The form notice date was 4/4. Because the company is a Wyoming company, it takes time for mail to be forwarded to my home address. On 4/12, I received notification that Brighter Vision owed 5,750.70 to the IRS for the Q4 Form 941. 4,746.02 was owed & then the rest was penalties tacked on. On 4/12 at 4:18PM, I forwarded this to Anu & Donna at Delta Effects. I called them at 4:22 & spoke with Kay who told me Anu & Donna were in a meeting & would call me back soon. I called again at 4:57 & 5:39 & Kay told me the same thing each time. At 6:26, I called yet again & Kay assured me that Donna or Anu would call me back by 7:30 Mountain time to explain what happened. During my 6:26 call with Kay, Kay became very aggressive & agitated toward me, accusing me of knowing about the 3,642 over payment & never contacting them about that but only when I owed the IRS money. I calmly explained that I received the notification yesterday & that I would be speaking with Lara Gonzalez at Boulder Valley CPAs about this as she now handles our payroll and taxes. At 6:50 Mountain, I received an email from Kay saying that they would contact me tomorrow 'regarding you 941 Q4 underpayments'. I called Delta Effects again at 8:01 asking to speak with Donna and Anu. Kay told me they were busy. I asked Kay to please send me my Q4 Form 941s for Brighter Vision and 717. She responded saying that she would find them and mail them to me. I again asked for her to just email me them. She said that she mailed a large binder of documents with all the documents I had requested months ago. I again requested that she send me my Form 941s and Kay said that they were e-Filed. I again asked that she please send them to me if they were e-Filed, there must be a digital copy she can send me. It got to the point that I was basically begging for her to send me a copy and she kept skirting around actually doing so. Kay said that she would investigate the Brighter Vision underpayment on her own time to see if she made a mistake. And if she made a mistake, she would pay it out of her own pocket and that they would make everything OK. I said that I had trusted Delta Effects before and every time I received an IRS notification, they simply said don't worry, we are handling it (Email documentation available)... and now I owe close to $6,000 so I do not wish to just trust them to handle things. Kay also said that 'we are only talking about $900' (the rough difference between the over payment on 717 and under payment on BV) and again said that she would take care of it if it was her fault, but she does not believe she was at fault. I asked her what about the $1,000 in fees assessed She then said that she should not even investigate this because I 'still owed them money'. I said that if I had an outstanding balance on my account with them to please send me an invoice. At this point, Kay became agitated &aggressive toward me on the phone, again accusing me of deliberately hiding the fact that there was an overpayment. She claimed that she made that overpayment so that the overpayment technically belongs to her. She also said it would not be a big deal, that the IRS would just transfer the funds. I explained that these are two separate companies & she said that it's not a big deal. I also again calmly explained that I only received notification of this (717 under-payment) yesterday & I would investigate with my new payroll company. On 4/13, Anu wired into my account the full amount owed, including the penalty. I HOPED that was the end of it. Unfortunately, one week ago I received a letter from the CO Department of Revenue saying that $2,194 was never paid in 2014, when Anu and Delta Effects was handling our payroll. What happened to that $2,194? I don't know. I DO know it was withdrawn from our checks. But like the 3k that was missing to the IRS, this was missing to the state. But Delta Effects DID withdraw it from our accounts. I've emailed & requested documentation of the amounts paid, and they've again ignored. Out of space. Avoid at all costs. read more

I had Donna examine my tax returns for the last few years. (This is a free service!) She patiently answered my questions about deductions, and how best to deal with my tax situation. She pointed out some small errors in how I prepared my return, and explained how to avoid these errors in the future. Although Donna won't give detailed advise on tax issues related to estate planning, she gave me a referral to another company that can assist me. I plan to use Delta Effects to prepare my 2016 taxes. I've done my own taxes for years with TurboTax, but am now finding that my tax situation is complex enough that I need a professional tax preparer.
