The main house was decorated for Christmas with an attention to detail that was astounding. Jefferson has an interesting history as also their home. We learned a lot from Julie about present day Jefferson which has a plethora of antique stores, countless historic homes and an Historical Museum that had a surprising quantity of important exhibits chronicling the region's past. This Labor Day weekend I was fortunate to be a guest at Green Gables of Jefferson. The home is…read moregorgeous and my fabulous hosts Marty and Julie Stewart have lovingly and with careful detail intertwined their own family history into the house with old family photos and other mementos, while still showcasing the house's history and the history of Jefferson itself. You can tell they love their home, their town, and their guests, and take pride in making you feel welcome. In fact, they took me on a golf cart ride around town and showed me some of the finer points as it wasn't busy that night and said golf carts were complimentary for guest's use. My cottage was huge with an adjustable mattress, free streaming TV with Hulu and snacks and soft drinks or water if I should get hungry while watching. There was plenty to read about the history of Jefferson, the house, or things to do, with a list specific to that weekend. There was a wonderful shower/ tub combo with all the toiletries I could need. There were plenty of extra blankets, pillows and Siri (for any music genre to sing me to sleep). BTW, the bed was so comfy, I told them I needed one for home. Outside I had a porch with rocking chairs, there's a gazebo, and a common area with chairs and a fir pit for cooler weather. You are also welcome in the common areas in the house. Breakfast the next morning was amazing. There was a delicious breakfast casserole, sausage, sliced avocado, and watermelon with blueberries. The evening prior I had dinner at Haywood House which was delicious, also one of many favorites of my hosts. Just ask. They are foodies and give great recommendations! It was a wonderful weekend with family and meeting new friends. Marty and Julie are amazing hosts! I look forward to returning to Green Gables for years to come!

A friend and I spent three nights here over the 4th Of July weekend and we had a blast. The cabin was perfectly fine for two people, with a king bed in the bedroom and a pull out sleeper sofa in the living area. There was a tv with a few satellite channels and a DVD player with a few dvds. The tv is not a smart tv so you'll need to bring your own device like a fire stick if you'd like to stream Netflix etc... No issues with the internet. The kitchen is well stocked with everything necessary for cooking. There were a few basic spices and coffee was provided with various creamers and sweeteners. Large charcoal grill outside with the necessary tools, including a charcoal chimney. Bring your own charcoal. The water pressure was good and the a/c worked like a charm in the 100 degree heat. Spent a lot of time on the mosquito-free screened in porch, which had several seats and a powerful fan to keep us cool. Having access to Kayaks, and a dock to launch them from was a huge plus. We spent most of our time kayaking around Caddo Lake. The kayaks/dock are a short 3-4 minute walk to another home located directly on the water, which is also owned by the same owners of the Caddo Cabin. All of the kayaking equipment was in good working condition. A golf cart is provided, which is shared with a neighboring cabin. It was nice to have for going to the local stores / restaurants. Made several trips to Johnson's Ranch Marina, Caddo Outpost, and the Shady Glade restaurant. All of which I highly recommend. Very nice people. If you're looking for some good souvenirs, MeMaw's t-shirts is a great option with custom shirts and other souvenirs. Definitely hit up the Uncertain Flea Market, which is open on the 1st and 3rd weekends of every month. The only slight downside to the cabin is its proximity to the other cabin on the property. It is not very private if the other cabin is occupied. If you're looking for something more private, I'd recommend going with one of the other homes that the owners have available. For the price, though, this place can't be beat, and I was perfectly fine with the proximity to the other cabin given how much money we saved. The owners are very kind, and promptly responded to any questions we had during our stay. I fully plan on returning for another stay in the near future. This place really is a hidden gem.

The loft bedroom is a challenge to get up but I enjoyed sleeping up there, the mattress was comfortable. It is very hard to find and my MIL was there before which is how we found it in the dark. There is a friendly dog to greet you and a somewhat suspicious orange cat. There aren't many places to stay in Hughes springs and my husband has family in the area so it's really a very local gem IMO.

It rained today and my car almost got stuck. The cabin itself seemed bigger in the pictures, but, in reality, is exceptionally small. The shower stall was so small it was difficult to bend over without going outside the curtain. Even the toilet was small. We were scheduled to stay two nights, but we left early and came home. Also, the whole 'bed and breakfast' is a bit redundant without breakfast. The host also stated that the well water was unsafe to drink and said that they provided us with water - two Dasani bottles... to last two people three days and two nights. The host also claimed that we left early because of some spilled candle wax. No, we left early because of the reasons detailed above as well as the fact that you can see the front door of the main house from the cabin. We felt so massively uncomfortable to the point that we left. Suffice it to say, we will NOT be back.

Here's the review I left on Google…read more I really hate to leave negative reviews but feel the need to leave one here. We rented the lodge on the campground with the pool in the front yard. The house was nice and so was the pool, even though it was in the front of the house and surrounded by and campground with no tree line or privacy fence. We booked the house through Airbnb and on the listing it stated that there were no exterior cameras on the property. When we got there, there were over a dozen. Pointed toward the pool, yard, doors, etc. We didn't think anything of it at first. There was also a man on the grounds when we got there who was in the shed and offered to open the house for us, we declined because we didn't know who he was. That was the first red flag because the host is a woman. There are quiet hours starting after 10 or 11. We were up late and around 2am took a swim. After being in for about 10-20 minutes, a man (different from the first man who was on the property) on a golf cart wearing no shoes pulled up and told us there was a noise complaint. Maybe there was, I'm not sure, I don't think we were being loud. Regardless, we understood we needed to keep it down. However, the man was VERY aggressive and was demanding we get out of the pool in front of him and he came through the gate even after being asked to back up. He was saying it was his house. He didn't provide any identification and he was not the listed host. We have no idea who this aggressive man was but it was extremely inappropriate and felt perverted. Who knows if he was the owner or not. On to the next day.... Around the pool house area we were getting everything set up to have a pool day. We found a door that had been left ajar that had a pad lock. The lights were on and it was air conditioned. Inside was a full surveillance system with an AT&T box. Not sure if it was WiFi or what, but it gave the impression that someone could view footage remotely. It was EXTREMELY disturbing. Had someone been there? Were they watching us? Is that why the man showed up at 2am? And why did the listing say there were no cameras? We were so upset especially after what happened the night before. We felt unsafe, especially as a house full of women. I would absolutely not recommend that anyway stay here. There is no privacy and if they are lying about cameras outside, what else is going on? Please be on guard. I hope something is done about this and they can right their wrongs.

The house was not NEARLY as active as I had hoped it would be, I did have the spirit of Daphne Young trying to communicate with me a majority of the tour though! The owner of the house/tour guide was super informative and kind. You could tell he loves giving tours, loves his home, and loves all the spirits that reside there. It was a super fun way to spend our Sunday morning/afternoon!

It has two large TVs, big tables and lots of chairs. It's very welcoming. The bathrooms and showers were very clean and nicely made. The laundry building is also clean. There is a large pile of debris toward the back. It looks like a dump of sorts. Behind that there was a lot of scattered trash as if animals had torn open a trash bag. It had been there a while though. Too bad because this was the most beautiful part of the park with beautiful grass and pine needle covered ground and many beautiful tall pines. The noise from the highway out front is busy and loud. There is a railroad crossing nearby. The trains blow their horns A LOT. Maybe all of this noise is less intrusive far to the back of the park where residents live. For me , staying near the front, it was too loud. I kept the AC running to drown it out and sleep was uninterrupted. The park is pretty with huge pines. The site numbers are small and very weathered so hard to see. There is a half demolished old travel trailer on the grass. One wall is completely missing. I thought maybe it was a recent project or something but clearly it had been there a long while. Even with all that, the main reason I won't go back is that in the morning I noticed a confederate flag flying in the back of the park at a permenant resident's site. It appeared to be the caretaker's site. I won't support a business which promotes the confederate flag. I understand heritage and love my German heritage. I won't be flying a Nazi flag. If this were my RV park I would clean out the trash and plant a bunch of trees in the front and/or build a 10' wall for a sound barrier and remove the confederate flag. On the plus side the people who worked there were very friendly.
