    Oh, hey pole.
    Samantha P.

It hurts me to rate a concert venue so low but man...I just can't fall in love with Deluxe. This venue is easy to find [just go down all the stairs].They always have a bar set up inside and outside the venue which helps make getting drinks not too bad but they are pricey. I like that it gives smaller bands a chance to play downtown but what I don't get is why tickets are often just as expensive as shows in the larger Egyptian Room upstairs which doesn't have what I want to discuss next... Which is the biggest thumbs down about this place: the HUGE POLES! On each side of the room there are poles that make a good chunk of this venue not worth standing in. The gaps made by these poles that people don't stand in also allows for people to sneak in and try and cut their way to better spots when the venue is packed. Why why why did they turn this space into a concert venue? Unless you can get in the center it is quite annoying to constantly be avoiding standing behind the poles as people shove in in front of you. The last time I was here I ended up on the side and couldn't see a good portion of the stage for most of the concert. I realize that getting here early could help prevent this but it is unfair to any patron who is paying the same amount as everyone else to be forced to these terrible spots. I wish they would either get rid of this as a venue [it's not like the acoustics are all that great] or quit selling so many tickets so that the patrons that are there can all fit in the center and not deal with the dang poles!! Ok, deep breath, end of rant. All in all, I will still come here if there is a band I am dying to see, but I don't see myself going here often...

This venue is the third smallest in the Murat Building which is still owned by the Shriners. The largest venue is the Murat which seats 2600, the next largest is the Egyptian Room which can handle 2000, followed by the Deluxe which holds about 250 people. There is a small VIP area to the left of the stage which offers seating for an up charge of around twenty dollars, everyone else is standing throughout performances. There is often a small bar in the room unless a performer request that the bar be placed outside in the hallway. I like this small, intimate space because one can get really up close to the performers. I've seen national acts start in the Deluxe and then progress to the Egyptian Room or even the theater in later years. The sound mix in the middle or back of the space is clearer, when standing at the edge of stage it has a tendency to be a bit all over the place.

Indianapolis has several really cool venues for live music (and a few crap ones). I have a soft…read moreplace in my heart for Tufty Clough's Radio Radio, a Fountain Square live music spot since 2001 and absolutely one of my favorite places to hear live music in Indy. Radio Radio is a 21 and over, general admission concert venue that offers table and lounge seating on a first-come/first-serve basis with the rest being standing room only (or sitting in my case, eh?). They offer full bar service and have specialty craft cocktails at select shows. Radio Radio is only open during shows with doors opening an hour before the first act is scheduled to play. It's a smoke-free facility, though it's my understanding you can smoke out back. Radio Radio has a really killer vibe with a weaving together of style, substance, retro, and probably a few other things. I don't get to Radio Radio nearly enough, but every time I go I'm like "Man, I need to come here more often." There are free parking lots in various locations around Fountain Square along with street parking in spots. Curb cuts are plentiful in Fountain Square, though it is an older part of the city so there are occasional sidewalk cracks. The front entrance is perfectly accessible and the venue itself is fairly solid, though the "Standing Room Only" shows can be a challenge. My understanding is they'll try to work with you with advance notice, though I have to be honest and say I've never had any difficulties as without exception I've found Radio Radio crowds to be respectful of wheelchair users when they show up. I've always been able to see, though I do typically arrive early just to make sure. Radio Radio's sound system was updated a few years ago and the sound is extremely awesome now. Acts range from local bands to up-and-coming regional and national acts or bands with more of a cult following. Concert capacity is right around 250. There's also this incredibly beautiful winding bar. Employees are friendly and helpful, drink prices are fair (especially for music venues), solid craft beer options, and I just love this entire vibe. It is worth noting that Radio Radio does not do food. If you don't know David "Tufty" Clough, he was the longtime bassist for Toxic Reasons and also for Zero Boys. He was also one of my first artist interviews when I was in college (so, yes. I'm a longtime fan). He also used to own Broad Ripple's Future Shock. This is an awesome venue and one of the better mid-sized options here in Indy. If you've never seen a show, I highly recommend it.

Fun space! Great live music venue. Mostly standing room but some seating. Old times bar. Great…read moreambiance.

I am always amazed at line dancing. The place is huge and has a pretty big parking lot with an over flow lot available as well. It you use you debit/credit card for anything here (bar tab, cover charge....) you will be assessed a $1 fee. The staff there was friendly enough, even though my interaction with them was limited. The place was very clean and had decent lighting for a bar. No country bar would be complete without a mechanical bull. This place in no exception. They have a bull that you can ride for an additional fee. The place has a very big dance floor in the middle, three bars (two were open while I was there), a stage, corn hole boards and an eatery (Rolyno's Pizza) that sells hot dogs, pizza, pretzels, sodas, and breadsticks. You will also find an outdoor patio out front that overlooks the parking lot. The drinks were reasonably priced, but there was always a long wait in line to get one. They were playing some real good music, a wide variety of country and hip-hop, and the line dancers really knew their stuff. I like this place. It had a mixed crowd, with the average age being about 30 or so. It is very spacious, with tons of room. It is defiantly a place to be on Friday and/or Saturday nights. Yeee haw!!!!!
