After standing for over an hour, we noticed this little area off to the left side of the stage and discovered it was VIP. Yes GURL! That's exactly what this mama needed -- a place to SIT! For $30 per person, the VIP area had seating, a private bar, private bathrooms, and a fan. Worth. Every. Penny. Hi-Fi is such a gem. Great atmosphere, fun setup, and I love that it feels tucked away right in the neighborhood. We had such a great first experience and will definitely be back!

I have a soft…read moreplace in my heart for Tufty Clough's Radio Radio, a Fountain Square live music spot since 2001 and absolutely one of my favorite places to hear live music in Indy. Radio Radio is a 21 and over, general admission concert venue that offers table and lounge seating on a first-come/first-serve basis with the rest being standing room only (or sitting in my case, eh?). They offer full bar service and have specialty craft cocktails at select shows. Radio Radio is only open during shows with doors opening an hour before the first act is scheduled to play. It's a smoke-free facility, though it's my understanding you can smoke out back. Radio Radio has a really killer vibe with a weaving together of style, substance, retro, and probably a few other things. I don't get to Radio Radio nearly enough, but every time I go I'm like "Man, I need to come here more often." There are free parking lots in various locations around Fountain Square along with street parking in spots. Curb cuts are plentiful in Fountain Square, though it is an older part of the city so there are occasional sidewalk cracks. The front entrance is perfectly accessible and the venue itself is fairly solid, though the "Standing Room Only" shows can be a challenge. My understanding is they'll try to work with you with advance notice, though I have to be honest and say I've never had any difficulties as without exception I've found Radio Radio crowds to be respectful of wheelchair users when they show up. I've always been able to see, though I do typically arrive early just to make sure. Radio Radio's sound system was updated a few years ago and the sound is extremely awesome now. Acts range from local bands to up-and-coming regional and national acts or bands with more of a cult following. Concert capacity is right around 250. There's also this incredibly beautiful winding bar. Employees are friendly and helpful, drink prices are fair (especially for music venues), solid craft beer options, and I just love this entire vibe. It is worth noting that Radio Radio does not do food. If you don't know David "Tufty" Clough, he was the longtime bassist for Toxic Reasons and also for Zero Boys. He was also one of my first artist interviews when I was in college (so, yes. I'm a longtime fan). He also used to own Broad Ripple's Future Shock. This is an awesome venue and one of the better mid-sized options here in Indy. If you've never seen a show, I highly recommend it.

Parking was easy to find but of course you had to pay for it due to being out in broad ripple. I ended up paying for a meter parking which was not too bad at all. Once I walked to the vogue they had security there to check and make sure no one was bringing in any items they shouldn't. It was great that security is there. The security was friendly. After walking into building the space was very big. There were a lot of people in there but everyone was spread out. I love how they had an ADA section for people. There was a bar which the prices were your typical prices for drinks. Overall the experience for the concert was good.

The drinks tend to be more reasonably priced than Live Nation events. I was there a couple weeks ago and made sure to bring a clear purse and even measured it to make sure I wouldn't have any issues getting in through security. It was fine. When I was there last night the exact same purse was prohibited. Next time I'm going to bring a tape measurer with me so I don't have to go through that hassle again.

I'm not sure I could call Melody Inn my favorite concert venue in Indy, but it is a place I…read moreabsolutely love and it caters to types of music I don't always hear elsewhere. Melody Inn is at 38th & Illinois in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood and pretty much across the street from Tarkington Park. I lived at the high-rise at 38th & Meridian for a while and still frequent this area. The "Mel" was established in 1935. It's a historic venue that definitely gives off a dive bar/retro vibe. For live music, there's typically a cover charge around $5 (check the calendar to be sure). Parking in the area is free (street/lot across the street). You can still sit at the original oak bar, hang out in the PBR lounge, visit the Smoker's Garden, and even sit in a vinyl booth from Indy's gone but never forgotten Teepee Restaurant. Melody Inn has an incredible jukebox (obviously not during live music). Every Saturday night is Punk Rock Night (my favorite). The Mel has beer on tap (pretty limited), in cans, and in bottles. They also carry ciders. They have a limited food menu (pizza, chicken strips, corn dogs, and a handful of snack-type foods). This isn't gourmet food - it's dive bar "I got the munchies" food. Local brews include selections from Triton, Sun King, and Three Floyds. While I think Melody Inn is mostly known for its Punk Rock Night, you can also catch hillbilly, rockabilly, rock, comedy, metal, indie, pop, and other types of music here. I've always associated the venue with punk, however, there's something to please everyone here. They have a newsletter you can sign up for on their website. Melody Inn will book local acts. All acts have to be over age 21. They have high expectations for acts promoting their appearances (along with the entire bill). They don't book cover bands, however, they do have tribute nights. While the area here used to be somewhat rough, Butler-Tarkington has improved quite a bit. The park has been updated, Tea's Me is right across the street, and I've just never had much in the way of concerns here. In terms of accessibility, things are pretty decent here for a general admission place. Audiences tend to be pretty considerate (even the punk rock folks!). and the staff here is top-notch. This is just a great place to see local bands and to experience of of Indy's oldest bars/music venues.

They have a few bar locations throughout the venue which is convenient, a little pricey but typical for a venue of this type. A lot of the floor towards the front is tile, which makes a lot of sense for people who are more crowded in and drinks are more likely to spill a little. I find this uncomfortable to stand on for a long time, which is about how long you'll stand if you want that nice view of the stage. I feel like rubber mats could be put down? At least so it's easier to clean, and possibly a little more slip resistant.

When I called ahead with a question, the staff was very accommodating and friendly. The space also feels very ornate and unique. This past week, I attended a show and the employees by the barricade worked tirelessly to make sure those in attendance were well-hydrated. They were going back and forth non-stop with paper cups filled with water. This was before and during the show. Thank you to the workers for looking out for everyone!

On my way home from I long day, I came across this place and decided to stop in. It was a Saturday…read morenight, which meant there was a $4 cover and it was line dancing night. I am always amazed at line dancing. The place is huge and has a pretty big parking lot with an over flow lot available as well. It you use you debit/credit card for anything here (bar tab, cover charge....) you will be assessed a $1 fee. The staff there was friendly enough, even though my interaction with them was limited. The place was very clean and had decent lighting for a bar. No country bar would be complete without a mechanical bull. This place in no exception. They have a bull that you can ride for an additional fee. The place has a very big dance floor in the middle, three bars (two were open while I was there), a stage, corn hole boards and an eatery (Rolyno's Pizza) that sells hot dogs, pizza, pretzels, sodas, and breadsticks. You will also find an outdoor patio out front that overlooks the parking lot. The drinks were reasonably priced, but there was always a long wait in line to get one. They were playing some real good music, a wide variety of country and hip-hop, and the line dancers really knew their stuff. I like this place. It had a mixed crowd, with the average age being about 30 or so. It is very spacious, with tons of room. It is defiantly a place to be on Friday and/or Saturday nights. Yeee haw!!!!!
