Large venue with multiple performance spaces. Came here for Broadway Rave 2024 and the first problem was finding the entrance. Once inside, the labyrinthine layout proved to be a challenge. Strange choices by staff to cordon off certain areas of the space without regard to egress or traffic flow. Sound and lighting inside the space was good, but the basement felt claustrophobic because of the low ceilings. read more

I feel the need to write an update review after having been back to a concert at the Deluxe to see Ruston Kelly. I went in and after a few short minutes, I realized that the huge columns/pillars that blocked your view in the most annoying way ever were now reduced in size! That's right, those 4-6 huge columns that blocked the way are now slimmer poles and they also have ledges on them so you can also put your drinks/belongings there if you so choose to do so. This was my first time in The Deluxe room. Be prepared to be hot! Other than that I was very pleased with the room and bar situation. There were 4 bar/concession stands throughout the area to spread the crowds around. Each time I needed a drink I had no wait. Plenty of stalls in the bathroom as well so there was no waiting around. Parking and getting in and out the venue was a breeze. All the employees at Old National were friendly. I really liked the intimate feel of the Deluxe. Again the only caveat was it was HOT even with the fans that were blowing into the room. read more

Deluxe at the Old National Centre is essentially a smaller version of the Egyptian room. It was expanded fairly recently, but it is still a smaller room geared more towards up-and-coming acts. I've gone to far fewer shows here because the acts I enjoy are generally in the other rooms. Sight lines can be challenging for shorter concert goers. Sound quality is average. As with the other rooms in the building: This is a Ticketmaster/Live Nation venue. Therefore, if you buy tickets online, you are going to pay exorbitant service fees. You don't have to be happy with it, but at this point you have to live with it. Similarly, every other aspect possible will be overpriced, from drinks to the paltry selection of food. But it is in a pretty cool area of downtown Indianapolis. There are some good restaurants within walking distance, and parking is generally not a huge problem. If a performer you like is coming through and you're willing to price, you'll have a good experience. read more

Went to see a concert in the new basement venue here at Old National Centre. The concert was great but the Deluxe At Old National Centre venue was pretty lousy. There are six large columns cutting through the main floor area of the venue space that create plenty of spots that are hard to see from. An area the artist referred to as the "Olive Garden" seating offered tables to sit at for an upgrade price. However it looked like visibility from that area would be pretty bad thanks to the columns. The back of the venue is open to the stairs, which became very distracting when the big name concert upstairs let out during our show's encore. Here we are listening to a really heartfelt final piece to a great show and we're suddenly bombarded by the noise of the other show's guests. That kinda stunk. What was the absolute pits about this venue was the bar. First off, it was $15 for a single bottled beer. I know concert beers are pricey, but that seemed like highway robbery for one 12 oz bottle! OK, don't buy beer here--lesson learned there. However, that wasn't the end of the issue with the bar. They started teardown of the bar before the set was over. Again, this added a really noisy clanging of gear and what not as the bartenders broke everything down while our performer was putting on a good show. I've been to several good shows in the Egyptian Room and some in the theatre proper. But I don't think I can recommend the new basement venue unless Old National puts some more effort into really making it a respectable and comfortable place to see a show and not just sort of a "Oh hey, we don't care that you paid for tickets. You're not important to us so go hang out in the corner of the basement" type of venue. read more

It hurts me to rate a concert venue so low but man...I just can't fall in love with Deluxe. This venue is easy to find [just go down all the stairs].They always have a bar set up inside and outside the venue which helps make getting drinks not too bad but they are pricey. I like that it gives smaller bands a chance to play downtown but what I don't get is why tickets are often just as expensive as shows in the larger Egyptian Room upstairs which doesn't have what I want to discuss next... Which is the biggest thumbs down about this place: the HUGE POLES! On each side of the room there are poles that make a good chunk of this venue not worth standing in. The gaps made by these poles that people don't stand in also allows for people to sneak in and try and cut their way to better spots when the venue is packed. Why why why did they turn this space into a concert venue? Unless you can get in the center it is quite annoying to constantly be avoiding standing behind the poles as people shove in in front of you. The last time I was here I ended up on the side and couldn't see a good portion of the stage for most of the concert. I realize that getting here early could help prevent this but it is unfair to any patron who is paying the same amount as everyone else to be forced to these terrible spots. I wish they would either get rid of this as a venue [it's not like the acoustics are all that great] or quit selling so many tickets so that the patrons that are there can all fit in the center and not deal with the dang poles!! Ok, deep breath, end of rant. All in all, I will still come here if there is a band I am dying to see, but I don't see myself going here often... read more

We actually got there early right before the doors open for an upcoming artist - MAX. First time there so we bought tickets into the main lot which isn't needed if you prefer to pay for the street meters. The check in and security process was pretty efficient, although they could of snaked the line indoors as it was freezing cold outside. I didn't want to pay extra for a coat check. The whole layout to deluxe in the basement was confusing. Tons of stairs and turns to get there. Eventually we got to this smaller sized room for around maybe 400 or less with a pretty basic set. As this was a standing event, we upgraded to VIP on the side since we couldn't see very well and I'd prefer to sit for a 3 1/2 hour event. We had to walk all the way back out to the ticket office and go through security AGAIN. Those big, damn PILLARS literally block the whole stage if you happen to be stuck behind one. The view from the VIP aka "Deck" more of a side view, not completely forward facing and not as close in personal to the stage as I wanted to see. The acoustics were mediocre, just plain loud and muffled. Not super clear. Sound separation was a fail. You could barley hear the artists' wonderful voices. The system needs an upgrade. Although, It's great to see artist gigs start out before they become super popular up close for lot less than Banker's. I'll be back to see the newcomers to pop music! read more

This venue is the third smallest in the Murat Building which is still owned by the Shriners. The largest venue is the Murat which seats 2600, the next largest is the Egyptian Room which can handle 2000, followed by the Deluxe which holds about 250 people. There is a small VIP area to the left of the stage which offers seating for an up charge of around twenty dollars, everyone else is standing throughout performances. There is often a small bar in the room unless a performer request that the bar be placed outside in the hallway. I like this small, intimate space because one can get really up close to the performers. I've seen national acts start in the Deluxe and then progress to the Egyptian Room or even the theater in later years. The sound mix in the middle or back of the space is clearer, when standing at the edge of stage it has a tendency to be a bit all over the place. read more

The good: Really cool historic building Swanky bar with couches and hot food just outside the concert hall 2 small bars in the hall in addition to the outside full bar keeps wait times reasonable This venue plays host to all different sorts of bands/acts For as old as the building is, it does not show its age at all...very well-maintained The bad: Temperature fluctuates wildly...my teeth have chattered at some shows and we left another show (3/2014) early because it was so hot we couldn't take it Sight lines are obstructed by columns Entire concert hall is one level unless you pay for VIP seating which puts you along a wall, on risers, with tables & chairs Musicians have had to leave the stage DURING THE SHOW to speak with the sound guys in the back of the room...sound guys can barely see the stage either The ugly: Vastly overpriced drinks, far more than any other venue Tickets are more expensive than the artists want them to be...singers have even apologized for the ticket cost Of note, the Egyptian Room is a separate venue in the same building. I'm glad we have as many music venues in Indy as we do, but I just feel like this one could do a lot better job. As it is, I feel like Old National Centre has no interest in music or art and only interest in turning a profit. read more

We got lucky because we went to a Tuesday evening show that wasn't too packed and the t was the coldest day in record for early November so temperature wasn't bad at all inside the venue. Drinks were insanely pricy, and the poles were a big issue. But overall it was a great show and a neat venue for the artists. Tickets were only $17 for the show I went to which was great!! read more

I love the Egyptian Room upstairs, but I will never see another concert in the Deluxe downstairs. The concert I saw (Beach House) was sold out, so I knew it would be crowded, but this was insane. (They sold too many tickets for such a small room.) Hot and stuffy? Check. Sweaty people pushing and shoving to try to get a view--any view--of the not-very-elevated stage? Check. People spilling exploitatively overpriced beer all over each other as they angle for a glimpse of the singer reputed to be somewhere ahead? Oh, yeah. Of everyone there, I would wager that fewer than 100 could actually see the goings-on onstage. There are six huge columns that completely block a clear view of the stage for large sections of the standing-room-only floor. I could hear just fine, though. (Acoustically, the room gets a C+... it's plenty loud, if a bit muddy.) Sounds like I missed a pretty good concert. read more

the room was pretty small but would be gorgeous for a reception. it is not however the best venue for VERY loud rock and christian rock bands. the first band ( bird cages) was not understandable in the way of lyrics due to the sound man being behind the stage. Family Force 5 was amazing and could be understood very well ( great sound techs) but still a little loud for the specific room. read more
