Oakley has received accolades from Bon Appetite, James Beard, USA Today, as well as local awards. We stopped for lunch last week. Oakley was visible, working in the kitchen. The dining room has been remodeled since our last visit. Hues of green cover the traditional style walls. Autographed copies of famous cookbooks sit above booths. The place is romantic. The lunch menu is complex, yet affordable. A wine list features specials starting at $20/bottle. We start with a Shrimp Corn Dog. The "seafood dog" was made famous by Chef Oakley when he beat Bobby Flay with this innovative concoction. The variation of the seafood dog is artfully presented, drizzled with honey and fresh herbs. It is delicious. I ordered the Shrimp Risotto. I loved the spicy sauce on the rice. The mix was filled with bits of squash and onion. The shrimp were tender and flavorful. My husband was blown away by the Wild Boar Koran-Style Sloppy Joes with awesome house made chips and slaw. We had impeccable service from Nate. He was attentive, friendly and made recommendations. They bring a bottle of cold water to the table, so you can serve yourself. Nate stands behind every dish on the menu. Oakley's is truly a 5 star experience, perfect for date night. I'll be bringing visitors to Indy that I want to impress.

I will say that I've eaten here at least 3 times before and it's always been top notch. I will be back again. But I did not think it was spectacular last night. My table started by ordering several appetizers and salads. I split the beet salad with my friend. That was a mistake. This is hands down the best beet salad I've ever had. It is delicious. My friend doesn't like beets and loved the salad. It's not very big. I don't recommend splitting it. I'm not a fan of the shrimp corn dog but everyone else loved them. A friend ordered them for the table. Someone ordered the prime rib dumplings and said they were ok. They looked good but I didn't try one. They really enjoyed the bacon wrapped apricots. Another person liked the pesto goat cheese Mac n cheese. The deviled eggs were wasabi this time. The preparation is always different. The table didn't love this preparation as much as others in the past. I thought they were good. I had the Stanley meatloaf. I'm not a fan of the very large broccoli they plate. The meatloaf was very dense. I won't order it again. But I will note that it typically gets rave reviews. It's just not for me. My friend who got the beef short ribs wasn't excited about them. I had those last visit and they were excellent. I was hearing a lot of "ok" when people were asked how their entrees were. But everyone cleaned their plates, except me. I barely ate my meal and the server did ask if there was anything wrong. There wasn't anything wrong with the meal. I just didn't care for it. I boxed it up and brought it home. I will say that everyone really enjoyed the cocktails, appetizers and salads. Our entrees were fine but no one raved about theirs. We always eat at fine dining establishments when we go out. We loved Freeland's see my review for them. So we had high expectations here and left having had a good time together but the food kind of missed the mark. My bill came to $104 for two cocktails, a beet salad and meatloaf, incl 25% tip. I think when I go back I'll definitely get the beet salad again and stick to appetizers rather than an entree. My friends also ordered several desserts. They really liked all of them. The service was very good and the waitress handled our large party very well. It took a long time to get the food. There was a lot of time between our appetizers and the entrees. I think the kitchen was slammed. We were there for 3 hours. There is a 20% tip for tables of our size, but it was not automatically charged. There is no question Oakleys is a great place for fine dining. I recommend going there. It just didn't excite me last night.

I always think that is such a nice touch. The baked brie was delicious. The chef who I guess created the baked brie came out to say hi. I ending up ordering a second cocktail. It was their version of a margarita and was my favorite cocktail. It was so good. If you want a potato or creamed spinach, you have to pay extra for it. The wine was a stingy pour. The orange chocolate tart was a very low effort dessert for them. I swear I had this same rice crispy treat with chocolate frosting at Cub Scout meetings in the 1970's. Service was excellent, so three stars for that. The atmosphere was fine at first, but the noise level increased as the night wore on. Sitting outside may have been quieter. I have had much better meals for far less money. OK is not good enough to justify these prices.

I honestly didn't know what to expect other than I knew it was healthy food options. Parking is tough. I had to park a bit away during lunch time because their little section is pretty small and it was packed, so I parked over by Whole Foods and walked over. Not a big deal just something to be aware of, and if you are lucky enough to find a spot near them, it's tight getting in and out so just a side note. Upon walking in it was a pretty long line but again it was lunch time (around noon), so no issues. You order at and then get a number and find a place to sit. They have options to sit inside and out. We decided to sit outside since it was a nice day. The food came pretty quickly which was nice since it was lunch time. I ordered a kale salad which was amazing. My lunch partner had a wrap and she said it was really good. You can tell they are using really top notch ingredients which is good. Pricing is pretty typical for these type of places.

This is a sit-down restaurant located in the Plaza 71 strip center (just south of the Dairy Queen) and is adjacent to Mi Casa (also recommended). I just can't say enough about the Birria de Chivo that is served in a very (and I mean very) large bowl, along with a small plate of onion and cilantro; a small bowl of delicious minced red chiles; plus hot (aluminum foil-wrapped) corn tortillas. My minor issues are (1) they initially provided only 5 tortillas and the size of the Birria bowl requires at least 5 more; and (2) I did not see beer offered, only soft drinks. I'd love to know if they would allow BYOB. So, the Birria-- the best I have had in Indy and I have tried several. I know that Birria is moving to the mainstream, but most is prepared for American tastes. This is authentic and obviously home-cooked with great care. Tender and generous chivo portion in a delicious broth (I thought it needed salt, which I added). Carefully place a portion of the meat on a tortilla (do not overfill or it will come apart), add onion/cilantro, a bit of chile, and then dip the filled tortilla into the broth, and I mean this is an AMAZING bite! Very friendly service at the counter; it would help if you have some Spanish but it's not necessary. I am looking forward to returning so that I can try other offerings and when I do, I'll update the review. Their menu indicates that they will have the Birria and also Menudo every day. This is a gem!

They are open for about a month each quarter, typically for lunch or dinner on Thursday and Friday's, and the menu selections change with each class. Located on the Eleventh Floor of the Pyramids (Tower 2), the view is fantastic, and, at times, better than the food. I went to Eleven for lunch today with a group of 5 other people. The menu was a little different than one would typically find in Indianapolis - rabbit and quail were in all but two of the limited menu selections. I chose the prosciutto stuffed flounder, as did several other people in group. Only one was brave enough to try the pasta with rabbit (but she asked for it on the side.) Served before our entrees was a wonderful poached pear blue cheese salad that, if offered as a main course, I would have been tempted to get, and I'm not typically a salad eater. The pears were tender and beautifully presented on a bed of mixed greens with crumbles of blue cheese and chili rubbed walnuts that gave it a light kick. My flounder did just that.. it floundered. Picking through the bone became too much of a challenge, so I simply stopped. The vegetables that the flounder sat upon were wonderful as well, until I bit into a whole clove that was hiding out. Others in my group got the same thing I did and didn't have a bit of trouble, and I've been here many times in the past and haven't experienced any issues. Just remember, it's a school first and a restaurant second. The students are there to learn, and they're going to make some mistakes along the way. Looking forward to trying it again and hoping for a better outcome, perhaps with a little more conservative menu.
