I have used Gentile's in the past for my kitchen floor, and that went very well without incident…read more Recently, I went back for tile floor to be installed in my bathroom. I have mixed emotions about Gentiles regarding this most recent experience. In the end, it all worked out well and good. There's a new beautiful floor in my bathroom as of right now. The process in getting there was a bit rocky. First, picking out tile in the showroom (unassuming show room, with the nasty stale smell of cigarettes). The people working there have a kind of laid back personality and don't give you the hard sell. This is true EXCEPT when picking out the kind of tile which just HAS to be porcelain. Don't know why but you get a million reasons why to choose porcelain instead of another material, but NO ONE tells you that aside from diamonds, the material is one of the hardest substances on the face of the planet. No one, tells you that drilling new holes for the toilet flange will be a nightmare unless you own a diamond bit drill (who does???). Thankfully, the gentleman who did the installation was kind enough to use his own tools (and wreck them in the process) to help me get the toilet flange anchored to the floor. Second, the issue of grout. Thomas the installer will drive home the use of the neutral gray and tell you that the colors people pick of their grout never turns out the color they expect it to. This fact needs to be re-inforced by the showroom salespeople. Choosing the color for the grout, I thought I had a perfect pick. Unfortunately, after mixing the grout with the latex enhancer/sealer (recommended I get, I had no idea what it was for) the grout dries 5x lighter than the shade you think it will. It also causes the grout to dry super fast and adhere to the tile face itself before you can wipe it off with a sponge leaving residue in the nooks/crannies of the tiles. Very disappointing. Luckily, again, Thomas was patient enough to come back to help rectify the problem. He brought a grout residue remover and with a LOT of elbow grease, was able to take the remaining grout off the tiles. The product also did have a darkening effect on the grout lines which helped bring it closer to the original color I had in mind when I chose it. He also recommended a natural stone enhancer product that might further adjust the grout to the color I expected it to look like. I haven't gotten the product yet, but don't think I will need to. Mostly, I am grateful for Thomas the tile installer. He is a perfectionist to a fault (almost). But if it wasn't for him, I'd have no toilet in my bathroom and grout remnants on the tiles. The sales people at Gentiles need to be more forthcoming about what to expect when choosing porcelain tile and colored grout.

My husband and I got recently a quote from here. A gentleman came to take measurements. He arrived…read moreon time and knew the product we wanted. My husband had done a lot of research of the limitations of the materials we wanted to install (moisture and wear) and was impressed that this man knew the product so well. A few days later we got the quote. It was astronomical. We wanted to work with this store, so we called to ask why it was so high. This was not our first quote. I would not leave a one-star review for just a slightly higher price. This was a full 140% of what everyone else charges for the same exact product. As crazy as that is, even that wouldn't merit one star. The one-star review is for the snow job we got when asking why materials were so high. We were told this was the "landed price" and that other places probably charge shipping. Well, no...in fact shipping was free from other places. We pointed this out, and he said "Well, if that's the case, send me a quote from somewhere else in writing, and I'll have to have a talk with the sales guys." Posting this so any future customers make sure to shop around before accepting a quote. I'd hate to think if we were less informed and just accepted the job because we liked the guy. It was literally thousands more just for materials. Their labor, which they subcontract, was super high too. Disappointed since we wanted to work with them. Not a lot of good options in the Capital Region.

I moved to this city two months ago. I was tempted to go to one of the "discount" "warehouse"…read moreplaces because I was desperate to replace the very worn carpet in my basement ASAP. I went to Ted's. It was close by, and they offered a full service experience which I wasn't sure I would get at a bigger outlet. Michael was extremely knowledgeable about the products and while he did suggest a blend instead of wool in my basement, he knew immediately that I wouldn't be swayed. I decided to use a vinyl flooring product in one room and carpet on the other side. He explained the barrier elements and composition of the padding; and the backing on the carpet. Michael then came to measure, he was thorough and exacting. Supply chains what they are right now, it was hard to coordinate the carpet and the flooring which were available in separate though proximate weeks. Where Ted's really stood out was with their installation guy. Wow. Larry was so careful and so diligent, and took the time to repair my slab flooring before putting down the flooring. That did require an extra day; however I was glad to have the repair. All the waste was promptly removed from the premises. Larry and crew did a neat and tidy installation, made sure that tools and supplies were never in my way, and I couldn't be more pleased. Highly recommend.

Horrible experience with this company. They were hired by my apartment complex to recarpet my three…read morebedroom apartment. First three installers left behind a large lump in the living room carpet, a sunken piece and four breaks in the hallway, and an untucked break in the bedroom. After complaining, they sent two different installers who did stretch out the living room carpet, but were not successful in repairing the hallway carpet. Then they sent a different installer to put in a new carpet in the hallway. That carpet looked like it was a different shade from the other carpeting. They sent a manager out who concluded that the carpeting in two bedrooms was put in at a different angle from the carpet in the hallway and remainder of the apartment. They offered to again replace the hallway carpet. And it still looks a different shade. Four different installers and two managers and I am left with a carpet that looks different from room to room and there are many visible breaks. I wish I had kept my old carpet. Had I been paying for this (instead of my apartment complex) I would be suing them in small claims court. I was told that they subcontract out their installers and that is why I saw four different installers.

While we did explore searching for samples at several locations, the final decision was made to purchase from Ballston Carpet and Tile because we had narrowed down our possible choices to three - all of which were sold by BC&T. We were very pleased with Craig who assisted my wife in understanding the differences in the fabrics, their wearability, the anticipated delivery times, and who tolerated our slow decision making and the amount of time we held samples at home trying to make a final decision. Craig also kept us apprised of the manufacture's production schedule. The fellow who came to the house to determine the measurements was not only friendly, but also very knowledgeable and willing to share his knowledge regarding proper installation methods and wear. With his input we were able to arrange to include two scatter rugs from the same bolt of carpet to be ordered. Finally, the installer, Justin, was friendly, and did a very professional job of removing the old carpeting and installing the new carpeting. We are very happy that we chose Ballston Carpet and Tile to do this project and have no reservations with recommending them to others.

I had three…read moreold, filthy braided and an old old {like at lest 75 years old} fine but filthy wool Oriental rug that I had to make the decision to either pitch, or find a miracle worker. Seeing that float tanks were the way to clean these rugs, I finally found Jafri Rugs in Albany, about two hours away. The picked up my rugs, did their magic, and the suggested repairs of new side binding and fringe {the fringe on my 75 year old Oriental was like a bad comb-over, with some of the weaving coming apart} were worth it, the Oriental is luxurious and soft and gorgeous. I am seeing colors in it I never saw before. After getting them back and walking on them with bare feet - the wool braided rugs are SO soft and my feet love them. Even the dog has ceased to jump on the couch and now lies on the braided rug. Not scratchy and dried like how they were when I received them. I swear each rug was ten pounds lighter. I am indebted forever for these experts saving my grandmother's and mother's hand braided and cherished rugs. Even though I was far away, they picked them up and dropped them off. I did have to wait a bit, but realistically I had sat on these things for years trying to find a solution, so why get cranky asking someone for a two week turnaround? Besides, I had already tried getting one of the rungs cleaned by an "antique rug cleaners" expert and I still had dirty heavy scratchy rugs. It was the holidays and they wanted to make the trip back when they had a few more clients up my way. This made sense, and it was worth the wait. Don't hesitate calling them, forget the cost, fall in love with your treasured family rugs and consider the cost as you are working with rug artisans. Pay their worth and stop thinking in Walmart Rug mode. Recycle, and Re-use. Stop throwing good rugs away. An aside, Humza and the staff who picked up and delivered the rugs are pros at making you feel like you are their favorite customer, genuinely. Customer Service was beyond expectations wonderful.
