This is the worst experience that I have ever had with any vision/medical/dental providers. I got my eyes examined by Dr. Ma. She was initially nice, but in a rush finishing up the exam within 20 mins. I had a severe symptom and that's the reason of my visit, but it seemed she did not have time to examine my main symptom after she examined other things, and wanted to skip that. I insisted and she finally examined it and entered some numbers to the prescription. I felt she was more interested in selling expensive options in the lens instead of fixing my original problem. Not surprisingly, her prescription was wrong when the glasses finally came out. I wore them for weeks, but they were not good. I visited the office again with an appointment to get a new prescription. Her attitude was completely different this time. She was in a rush again because other patients were waiting. And she was upset for not getting exam done. She left the room in the middle of exam without saying anything. I thought it was unprofessional to treat a patient like this. 20 mins is too short to some of patients, and Dr. Ma gets extremely nervous when she cannot get the exam done within that time frame. I do not trust Dr. Ma and any products out of her prescription. I will never go back to Dempster Eye Center again. read more

I was pleasantly surprised when I made a visit to see Dr. Ma at Dempster Eye Care earlier this Spring. As we were in the midst of a pandemic, I felt like the office was clean, organized, and safe. Upon arrival, you have to call the office to be let in as the doors were locked for security measures. Again, this was my experience in Spring and not sure they still do this at the end of 2021. The office/waiting area had plenty of sanitizer stations, seats distanced, and gloves to use when trying on glasses. This was my first time visiting Dr. Ma. She seemed pleasant and it was a relatively quick appointment. I had to pick out some frames and the girl helping me was super friendly. She took her time in showing me different options, offering an opinion when I asked, and never made me feel rushed. Once I picked my frames, I received them in a couple weeks. They made sure they fit well and let me know that they were available if I needed anything. I had a good experience and will return next year for a visit. read more

Its to easy to criticize and denounce a business on yelp, that is not my intention here, the optometrist, Dr. Sun Ae Ma is pleasant and thorough, a credit to her profession, however, where i take issue with is with the lack of detail when buying eyeglasses there. I tryed on several pairs of frames and the frame i chose fit perfect, next step was choosing lens, easy enough, done. I was told, i'd receive a call when lens are installed, i received a call, a week later, i went in only to find the frames that fit perfectly before are now to large, kept sliding down my nose. I was told this is not uncommon once lens are installed and they'll adjust the fit. After trying to adjust the fit several times, i was told to come back if not happy with the new fit. I was back the next day cause the frame kept sliding down my nose and my eyelashes kept brushing against the lens, after several more attempts at getting the fit right, i was told that its my fault on how i wear the glasses, if i wear the glasses back, my lashes brush the lens or if i wear the glasses up a bit, they slide down my nose. Theres no adjustment, its either or. So how can a frame that fit fine before not fit correctly when lens were installed and once installed, no adjustment to the frame can be made? Although the Optometrist is excellent, receiving the proper eyecare fit is extremly lacking there, so for this, i can only say, be forewarned, i was totally disappointed there. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Ma for several years now. She is professional, genuinely curious cares about her patients and their health, and takes the time to ensure our optical understanding. She was extremely thorough with my test, dilating my pupils and measuring all sorts of things previous optometrists have never done for me. She was also thorough in explaining what she was doing and why, while conducting these tests. Additionally, it is always a pletasure interacting with Dr. Ma's friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff especially Andrew. He takes the time to measure the new frame to my face...most people in other eye glass stores don't know how to do this - at least done properly and the right way. You never feel rushed here or pressured into buying. And he takes the time to explain everything. The service is always great and you always leave feeling great. read more

Update: I came to Dr. Ma initially for progressive lenses several years back after getting a bad prescription from a different Optometrist. Dr. Ma took the time to carefully get the prescription correct, and listened carefully to my needs. I just need a little extra help for close reading which I only wanted when looking down. I couldn't be happier with the new glasses. Dr. Ma nailed the prescription and my progressive lenses worked great! Every time I come here and need just a little tightening of a lens or something is off on my frame, they just take care of it and they never seem bothered about it. Service exceeded beyond expectation. This is my 2nd time here! They never fail to impress me. They carry my all time favorite brand - oakley! Service is phenomenal. All looking forward to come back here annually. Their 5 star review is for real! I live far from here but i will always come back here. They are just the best eye clinic i have ever been to. Not only is she swift and precise in her examinations, she is also diligent and accurate in her evaluations, prescriptions and, recommendations. Dr. Ma is fantastic. My family has been seeing her for over a decade. She gives quality care and service and there is always a nice variety of glasses to choose from (high-end Prada to $99 ones). Her staff is super nice and helpful. It's a family friendly environment and they do quality work. My one son loves his glasses and the technician has been kind enough to tighten them up and keep them in great working order when he comes in. My other son, on the other hand ... Terrible experience. One of the sales tried to force the glass frame that I didnt like that much. She was very aggressive so I tried to order the frame that I loved and she didnt give me the total price for that and kept saying that I need to wait more than 1 week to know the price which I dont get it. she kept force me to order the frame without knowing the price so I requested refund but still tried to fight me. Dr. Ma was helpful with me to solve that problem but it was not a pleasant experience and that sales called me several times to complain about the refund. After few month later I had to order more contact lenses so I call them again to get the prescription for it BUT they informed me that when I did the eye exam they didnt do anything for the contact lense and I thought they did everything becuz my insurance covers only for 1 time per year. Now because they were being stupid. I have to pay double compared to what I could've pay. Thank you so much for that horrible experience. read more

I saw Dr. Ma twice and both times I was not happy with her services. The first time I went in for my exam, I waited 20 minutes even though I had an appointment. During my exam, she panicked and said I have glaucoma. I mean how can she diagnose me right away and she was not professional. She kept saying, how is it possible, you are young? It just didn't make sense. She performed all sorts of exams at her clinic. I was not happy, anyway, I bought expensive glasses as she does have a good collection and went away. I was now worried and thinking I may have glaucoma. I went to a specialist at NW hospital and the doctor said Dr. Ma was just out of her mind and she cannot just diagnose me for glaucoma at her clinic. My test results at NW were clearer and they knew what they were talking about. Oh and let me say that Dr. Ma is not nice and her staff is the same. So b/c I liked her frame collection, I went back to see Dr. Ma few years later and guess what??? Same service, I had to wait a long time. I asked her staff that I wanted to see their premium collection of glasses like Chanel, etc. Her staff made a face and wasn't helpful. Later she says, you have to wait for Dr. Ma to try on glasses. Really?? I have to wait even though I made an appointment and now I cannot try on frames while I wait?? I was upset. I want to note that the first time I went, I spent close to $500 for my frame so it's not like I couldn't afford Chanel. Anyway, I go to take my exam and Dr. Ma, again starts to panic and I just lost it. I told her, please don't say I have glaucoma b/c I don't. She dilates my eyes without even asking me. I was so mad. Anyway, after the exam, I left the store and never went back. I am writing this review few years later, but I had to write this. I was not happy with Dr. Ma or her staff. read more

If u scroll to the bottom of the page u can see all the bad reviews about this place. The owner pays yelp to not delete the bad reviews but hide them. I just can't with this place. Problems right from the start. Place was severely understaffed. I can't even wear the contacts cause they hurt my eyes. They put drops in ur eyes at the exam instead of doing the puff of air. The drops make ur eyes dilate he rest of the evening (for several hours) and it's hard to see straight. Now I'm trying to order glasses online from a much cheaper place and they conveniently left a measurement off my prescription so I called back and they won't tell me what I need to know. Said I needed to come back and in get measured. Trying to sell me on something I already paid for. Its just bad business. Will not be back and so sad I wasted all my annual benefits on this place. read more
