I have been a patient here for over 30 years. However, when I became a patient it was a single operation by Dr. J. Uyeda. He has since retired and several doctors have taken over the practice. My eye appointment is coming up soon and I will provide an update after my appointment. I have been coming here for way too long before it's current owners Dr. Kim and Dr. Lu took over. With the two new owners, I'm very happy to say this place has been refreshed and renovated. What is great to see that is consistent from the prior owner is at the doctors are incredibly talented skillful helpful and personable. Dr. Lu is who I usually deal with and she is fantastic for not only myself but my entire family. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What I like about her style is that she's very clear concise direct and focused on the health and vision of my eyes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This place continues to have an incredible selection of frames as well for all price points. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The entire front office staff is completely different than it was with the prior doctor and that's OK because changes always happened. What I am glad is at the front office staff like their predecessors are super friendly and personable. They're always willing to help and always trying to be accommodating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I truly enjoy coming here because they don't waste my time and they're extremely great at what they do. I have consistently bought frames with lenses here and they are punctual and transparent in pricing and they never try to up charge you or sell you things you don't need. I appreciate this because they don't waste my money. Would not recommend. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Prior to scheduling my family's annual eye exam, I contacted Dr. Kim's office and shared the contact lens brand and prescription that my wife and I both used. I specifically asked if they are able to order these lenses and Dr Kim's office team said yes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As a result we performed our eye exam with Dr. Kim. After the appointment we were given trial lenses (Bioaffinity and Coopervision). Neither brand was a fit for us and we asked to have the prescription for the lenses that we currently wore. [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, after we made this request the office manager Joe and Dr. Kim told us that they were unable to order our lenses due to a insurance limitation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As a result, for one of us, whose lenses are medically necessary is now required to schedule a new eye exam and pay for that visit out of pocket due to our insurance exam benefit being used by Dr. Kim. Another optometrist will not honor and submit a order of the lenses because they are required to perform the exam themselves for medically necessary lenses. Our experience feels like a bait and switch. We can't undo our visit and take the annual insurance benefit back since it was already used with Dr. Kim. If we were told the truth that their office did not have a partnership with our contact lens brand we would have chosen another optometrist. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Dr. Kim called me this week to share her regret of giving us "misinformation" but I explained during our conversation that her office shared false, incorrect information which is now costing us more money out of pocket.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service we received was not professional and not of the highest quality as her website indicates that they strive to do. https://www.skokieeyegroup.com/refund-policy I understand that we are all human, we aren't perfect and we make mistakes. I had high expectations given the positive reviews read here and on other platforms but I regret having my exam performed at Skokie Eye Group. I had my appointment a month ago at Skokie Eye Group since my regular optometrist, Dr. Mark, at North Park Vision did not have sooner appointments and my prescription expired. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Dr Lui (I believe it was her) spent very little time with me and felt condescending when my concerns were not taken seriously. I am not one to call out issues, but I hope they can improve. Praises all around. I normally see Dr. Kim but she was not available so I saw Dr. Janine Lu for the first time. She was very professional and I love how approachable and personable she is! She performed a very thorough and comprehensive exam. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love that she took her time to answer all my questions and also gave additional insights on my mono vision versus the standard vision option.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was pretty impressed, when I called a few days later with a vision clarity problem and she responded promptly and on the same day had me come into the office to try out a new lens magnification.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She even took the time to test my vision the same day with different lens to ensure that I feel comfortable and able to choose the best fit for me. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The staff was very pleasant as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Tino who helped me was great. I loved them precovid, but during covid avoid this place at all cost. The staff was not wearing masks 50% of the time. I was waiting to be checked out and the one desk woman did not have her mask on when she was talking on the phone. I was within 6 feet of her and let the staff know I was high risk. The second they sit at their desks, they take their masks off and even walk and stand next to each other without masks. Being proactive and making your patients feel safe also means showing you are taking precautions. If this is what you do in front of me, then they are probably going out and partying on the weekends and being careless. read more

Dr. Kim is beyond accommodating. She is super patient and explains everything thoroughly. Very professional and clean atmosphere. I am super pleased with the service I got from the team here. The staff allowed me to try on several frames until I felt comfortable. I didn't realize there were so many options. Their technology is very high tech and impressive. She even explained each equipment to me before we preformed the exam for that particular station. The front desk staff are also so kind and professional. My family and I went to Dr. Uyeda when we first moved to the area. To get a general feel for Dr.Uyeda himself, think used car salesman. He and his entire team continued to try to up-sale me on additional tests for contacts, etc. After repeatedly saying "no" (and being ignored), I finally gave in at the promise of "no extra cost". Well, that turned out to be "extra cost that will be included in the price of the contact lenses if you buy", which I, of course, could not afford. If you're looking for the services his office is offering, I'm sure he comes across as charming, but be warned -- everyone there will bully you into getting the answer they want (including calling you to see if you've changed your mind). read more

Dr. Uyeda is kind and very caring. He is knowledgeable and takes the time. The staff is great. Nice frame selection. I travel from the city to him for my eye needs. I have very sensitive eyes and have had several issues over the years... He knows. He knows. He's very thorough in his exams and even when I'm holding back. He knows. (Yes, I've been sleeping in my contacts..yes they're disposable but they're my last pair, so I made them last longer). He gets me back on track and my eyes are always so happy when I leave. My adult child has double vision resulting from radiation therapy after a brain tumor removal in 1977. She has limited hearing due to stokes in 2006 and 2008 attributed to the radiation sites. So, making a diagnosis for eyeglasses is extremely difficult, as her communication skills are hampered. Dr. Uyeda made her feel comfortable and thanked her for being a most interesting diagnosis, which made her feel positive about her complicated vision situation (Usually she is made to feel like a problem). When it came time to select frames, Dr. Uyeda came out and indicated selections that would better support the heavy lenses that she requires. Dr. Uyeda's office staff made her feel attractive and very positive. The doctor reviewed and affirmed that she had made good selections. The lenses had to be done twice, because she is difficult to understand in the evaluation stage and may have not been clear in her responses. But, the staff was more than willing to get new lenses within a week (and she has complicated prisims in her lenses). Oh so much better than the folks we had used in years prior! We have been back to get perscription swimming googles, sunglasses and that necessary second pair. Strongly recommend this doctor and his staff. read more

I saw Dr. Uyeda because he was referred to me by an optician and that Dr. Uyeda may be able to help me. When I first saw Dr. Uyeda, I explained to him my vision situation and current situation. It was a complicated vision history but everything was stable for over 15 years but unfortunately, my cataract was getting worse. He was very understanding and told me he would help me see as well as I could until the benefits outweighed the risk where surgery was the best solution. That point came and we had a plan to ensure my cornea was stable for me to get measurements for my implant. All of sudden, I get a call from him telling me that I was too high risk and that he would no longer support my surgery. He also told me that he didn't think I should ever get surgery. Here I am, I can barely drive and see at work and finally I make a decision to pursue surgery after postponing it for about a year and then I get this kind of news from a healthcare provider that said he would support and help me from Day 1. All the cataract surgeons advised me that surgery was necessary. My retina specialist cleared me for surgery and said he had no concerns that my eye health would be compromised by the surgery. My primary care physician was appalled that anyone would not see that I needed the surgery. Without Dr. Uyeda's support, I went ahead and found a great surgeon to do the surgery and it was a success. Now it was time for me to get contact lens so I reached out to Dr. Uyeda again since this was his area of specialty to see if he could help me in selecting the best contact lens for me. He did a great job fitting me for contact lens earlier. But to my surprise, he sent me an email stating the following, "Sadly I must inform you that I am not willing to accept the task of fitting you with contact lenses and maintaining the health of your eyes and visual acuity you desire," I am a healthcare provider as well and it's really disturbing that healthcare professionals could turn away patients for any reason. If you work in healthcare, shouldn't it be your commitment and passion to help patients to the best of your ability? Dr. Uyeda put me through an emotional rollercoaster and I hope no one has to experience what I did. Please be careful if you decide to see him. It seems he doesn't have any worries when he chooses to deny services at anytime for no legitimate reason. read more
