Like many customers I wanted to put a TV over a fireplace without it being too high off the ground as this makes for an unpleasant viewing experience. One way to do this is to use the "cool wall" type of installation, which lets you locate a TV right above the fireplace, but this requires building a chase into the room - and the particular room we have is too small for this to be a good idea. I also did not want to use one of the mantle mount options for our TV because that would also bring the TV into the room when lowering it for use which would thereby also reduce the size of the room in front of the TV. So we had a bit of a conundrum. But penguin showed us some options, which allowed us to get our TV low enough without using a mantel mount or a chase at all. Specifically, they showed us an insert that you could put directly on a concrete floor and a noncombustible mantle which you could locate just a few inches over the fireplace opening without risking fire safety. (As a point of comparison, locating a typical combustible mantle above a fireplace requires strictly specified minimum distance, which in effect leads to a much much higher minimum TV installation height..) We also went with a custom surround, which makes the gas insert that we went with look a lot bigger, and also a good proportion for the space that we have... And the design of the insert itself makes it look a whole lot deeper and wider than it actually is by using reflective glass. I'm really pleased with how this turned out. For the wall tile, I'd always had a dream of doing board form concrete and penguin did a fantastic job installing it. This is a fiberglass reinforced concrete veneer product I got from Wall Theory in the color "natural gray." It's worth mentioning that I visited another store that did not think of the options we went with, which left me scratching my head as I stared at a pile of catalogs that they shared instead. Go with Penguin.

I was told it's not needed every year unless there are problems. But their policy now is of such if they touch my insert, even removing the glass to hit a reset button for the remote they would have to do a full inspection. So total Cost would be close to $600.00 when all that is needed is a remote. I did find a company to Come and handle the remote only but I would have rather stayed with Fireplace Tech. Disappointed

Their message advises that they will get back to me in 1 to 2 days with a 5-week appointment time. I never received a call back. I called again about 4 days later and left another message with the same result, no call back. I called again this week and left another message. Now their appointment time is 7 weeks out. It's been more than 3 days and I still have not received a call back. I understand people can be busy, but don't say in your message you'll respond in 1 to 2 days when that is far from true. You obviously had time to change your message from 5 to 7 weeks appointment time, why not call back potential customers. Looking at other reviews it seems like this is a trend. If I can't even get a simple call back, what makes me think they'll come back out if something goes wrong with their work. Definitely going somewhere else!

They explained what they did and what they saw that might need work And at that point, they walked out the door with a five star review. Here's where it gets dicey. When they came, my flue was open. Being widowed I've learned to make fires but I have never opened or shut the flue. It was open when they got there and when they left the last thing they said was "OK now you can make a fire". But they didn't tell me that they had shut the flue or damper. I didn't know it was a thing until I made a fire and my house filled up with smoke. Opening all the doors and windows didn't work. The fire alarm kept going off. I couldn't make it stop. I shut the glass on the fireplace. Ended up having to call the fire department. I had to get my cats and throw them out in the rain and wait outside. The fire dept confirmed the flue was closed. They opened it and they brought in big fans to air the smoke out of my house. It's still smell smoky. The worst thing is this was super traumatic for me. I didn't know why the house was smoky I didn't know what to do. I didn't have my husband or anyone to help and I was panicked. It was a really horrible experience except for the hot firefighters lol. Based on that they would get zero stars so I gave them 2

Damian was extremely professional, thorough, and all-around friendly and informative. He took pictures of any issues and explained why they should be fixed and how. He even went through the effort to mention potential future issues. I received an extremely fair price for a thorough cleaning and inspection of an old 1956 home's (which our family just purchased) chimney. It was fun learning what he was looking for and what it told him about all the previous owners' usage and issues. I simply can't thank Damian enough for everything he did for the chimney and for my understanding of our fireplace/chimney, in particular. I could bore you about how brilliant of a business structure they have, but I will simply tell you that the great reviews are for many very real reasons :) Don't hesitate to use them. This was my first experience with Mike's Mobile Screen & Chimney Service. I was very impressed with the knowledge and care to customer service from the technician, Matt. The first time he came out, he did a complete cleaning of our fireplace. He was careful to put down tarp, so no dirt and debris would be in the living room. It wasn't even necessary for me to move furniture, as he was very careful and meticulous in his cleaning. Matt retured a few weeks later to install the chase cover that we had ordered for our chimney. Once again, Matt's work was up to the same high quality that he demonstrated before. Matt definitely is an asset to this company, and I was very pleased that he was the technician sent to do this work. We were interested in security screen doors for our house to be able to open it up for ventilation throughout the year but still feel safe to do so. The Viewguard checked off all the boxes!! It's clean looking and compliments the our entry doors without being utilitarian looking. The in-home salesperson, Cesar walked us through the options, no upselling, just facts about the quality of their products. I did my research and it was a clear decision to go with Mike's Mobile Screen Service. Cesar was great to work with and he took measurements with care. One of the best service companies I've ever worked with! Tyler came out to install my repaired sliding door screen. It's old and bowed but I didn't want to buy a new one. Instead of just slapping it back in, he spent the time to adjust it better than it ever worked! It was not a service I requested, he just refused to leave it knowing that Mike's Mobile Screen had touched it and they don't settle for "good enough". They're also excellent communicators. I called Mike'smobile from getting it on google. I described my problem on line and the sent back an estimate which turned out to be the final amount. They scheduled me for a few days later and sent me a reminder the day before. They let me know they were running a few hours late on the phone and then came promptly at the new time. The lady who repaired the screen was polite, professional and had the screen like new ( it had been ripped and had a hole) in about 20 min. I would certainly use them again. I have been looking forever for a security door for this odd narrow bedroom door we have. I've had steel security doors in the past and hate how they bang closed and also the general "jail door" feel they have. Fortunately I found Mike's Mobile and Severina came out to measure and mentioned they had this security door called the Viewguard. Wow! It doesn't bang, it's extremely secure, there are no gaps and it is made from aluminum and stainless steel so it will never rust! Also, it hardly even looks like a security door! A+ read more

I googled chimney sweepers and chose Mike's Mobile because they seemed reputable and the reviews were good. I requested a chimney cleaning. Scheduling was easy! A technician named Daniel came to clean the chimney, but also inspected it. He did a great job explaining issues he found that needed repair. When I began my search for a security door install company, it was quite difficult, because I live in Vallejo, and I didn't see many reputable options. I eventually stumbled upon Den Defenders during my search, and after doing some research on them, and seeing lots of positive reviews, I decided to call, and schedule an appointment with them. For my initial consultation appointment, I was set up with their awesome employee Mike Carson. Mike was the best to work with, as he was a very professional individual, who seemed quite knowledgeable about the products, and services that Den Defenders offered. Mike helped me find the perfect solution for my home, and family's needs, as we needed a door that would allow more airflow into Our home for the hot summers, while keeping out insects, and also being very secure, so that we can sleep without worry of any intruders entering our home. Mike recommended the Viewguard security door, as it appeared to meet all of my family's needs. After Mike educated us on the door, its quality, and its features, We were sold, so we ordered one, and set up an appointment for the install date. When it was install day, My family was very excited, because when we first seen the door, it looked like a very high-quality, and sturdy unit. The install took about a few hours, as my home needed some stucco modification for the door to fit, but the Den Defenders crew had all of the tools/ equipment to get the job done, and they even kept the area clean as they worked, which was a huge relief, and very professional on their part. I'd like to point out that I couldn't be more happier, and satisfied with my purchase, and I would highly recommend this company to anyone in the market for a high-quality security door installation. Before ending my review, I'd like to personally say a big thank you to Mike Carson for setting everything up, and ensuring a very satisfactory experience for me, and my family. Cardinal proved to be a professional team starting from the bid to scheduling through work completion. We had bids from other contractors but went with Cardinal due to an honest bid accepted by State Farm. After their work, everything looks like new, they matched our paint and texture, custom carpentry, etc. The crew cleaned up each night and moved back our furniture and reinstalled our fixtures. The work was complete in about two weeks. No surprises. Highly recommend.

In working with my carrier, Cardinal was recommended as a trusted contractor and although I did other searches and have worked with a few other construction firms, the fact my insurer recommended them strongly influenced my choosing Cardinal for the repair work. After several phone calls and a visit to their office I was very impressed with their knowledge, showroom, personable and professional staff. We signed a contract and work started a few weeks later. From choosing materials to trying to make a new theme fit for the fire damage renovation, it was not a quick, simple or easy job - either for me or for Cardinal. But I appreciate a professional builder and I'm sure they appreciate clients who are engaged and ready to work with them. Make no mistake, construction is a skilled trade and I've had my share of fly-by-night handyman operations. Sound advice would be to ask questions but also educate yourself with the basics so your renovation or project will better turn out the way you envision it. All the construction on my condo was done with formal permits through the City and I'm elated to say that all the repairs have been completed and the condo has passed final inspection. Compared to what it was before the fire, Cardinal has made it into a gorgeous, zen-like retreat. Thank you CARDINAL Construction!!

The exceptional precision that Alex brings to every aspect of construction really shows - flush baseboards, trim and walls are flawless; the seams where countertop meets backsplash in the kitchen and where tiles meet wall and floor in the bathroom are immaculate. Working with Alex was a great collaborative experience. He respected my input and perspectives and didn't condescend like other contractors I've worked with in the past. At the beginning of the project he recommended options for the foundation, framing, and drainage, with cost/benefit information that was really helpful to my decision making, and the finished building is rock solid and will always be snug and dry. His guidance as I selected flooring, lighting, cabinets, HVAC, plumbing, etc. was always spot on. He has an excellent eye for design, color, texture, too - a real plus! - and I'm very happy with the final finishes. Evaluating the current state of my house's electrical wiring, where he provided recommendations (from nice to haves to urgent fixes), rough estimates, and how to review bids. 2. Developing a plan for my drainage in my yard. He and I walked through the lot, pointed out high and low points in my yard, and used tools and instruments to provide accurate measurements. 3. Checking my crawl space for potential structural and foundation issues. After that, he helped me figure out next steps: hiring an engineer, evaluating contractors and their services, and helping me review bids. Since he's been busy, I haven't been able to hire him for major projects for my house, but he's been great to work to get second opinions and additional guidance. However, I am trying to get in his schedule soon to take on a major construction project, since I know that he will deliver high quality results.
