Let me add to the list of five star reviews. I had a catastrophic failure of my 30 year old gas Fireplace, which resulted in an explosion. After reviewing the damage, Marvin indicated that it could be rebuilt and upgraded. After securing all necessary parts, Marvin and his associate completely rebuilt and upgraded the fireplace. It is important to note that gas fireplace components and starter assemblies have been much improved in the last three decades. I highly recommend FTS for service, repair and upgrades. Highly recommend! Marvin runs a family-owned business and was prompt, honest, affordable, and professional. He was very clean and respectful of our home--laid out cloths and used a vacuum to ensure no dust was left behind. On the first visit, Marvin got our fireplace working but noted that the fan needed to be replaced. He ordered the part and came back to install it. Marvin is the best! He came out after another fireplace repairman (Randy Kidd) took my money, lied about how much it would cost to fully replace the unit, basically extorting me. And then proceeded to give me a faulty used circuit board, lying about the "work he did" and leaving me with a fireplace that wouldn't turn on, saying it was my fault and telling me it was impossible to fix. Marvin was wonderful. He explained everything, educated me about the unit and how much things actually cost, and is ordering the part I need (even though my make/model of fireplace is out of production). I have a large Valor gas fireplace which wasn't working due to the pilot light not turning on. I sent in a Yelp request and within an hour, I was on the phone with Marvin who was incredibly helpful. He was knowledgeable about the unit and was able to walk me through some troubleshooting tips that ended up working out perfectly. Most other fireplace companies in the East Bay charge a service fee of 350+, his prices are the best I've found thus far and I will absolutely keep his contact for future business. I reached out to them with a vague issue two weeks after the service and they came right back to do even more troubleshooting (another hour+ work, covered by the original service charge). Marvin installed my "log" set and electronic ignition burner and was able to troubleshoot a few issues (I.e. possible manufacturing defect) to make sure everything worked perfectly. They were on time and gave a very competitive price. They set up our pine cones beautifully and even filled in some extra gaps with some lava rocks that they had. Marvin, Older gas fireplace wouldn't light Called FTS and Marvin called back shortly. Scheduled and he arrived on time. Very efficient spread a drop cloth and started to take apart the fireplace. His assistant got to work cleaning the glass. They found the gas inlet valve dirty. Cleaned all systems, reset the logs and the fireplace looks and works great! We had Marvin out to service our Valor gas insert, which wasn't staying lit. I messaged the business through Yelp and Marvin replied very quickly with a quote and answered any questions I had. He was very responsive and helpful. We scheduled a service time and date, and he arrived as promised, did an excellent job, and the fireplace works now. Marvin sounds like a nice guy and wanted to help me with smoke escaping from the fireplace. However, he was not forthcoming in his services for me. I spoke to him on the phone and immediately left my name, address and phone number with him in anticipation of a home visit to inspect and repair the smoke/flapper issue. Marvin ghosted me for 3 days! He had me waiting for a confirmed appointment visit, which I never got after leaving a couple of messages with him during the 3 days waiting. I called him early morning on day 4 and that is when he told me he does not do that kind of work. He told me after waiting for him for 4 days, that I need a chimney sweeper. Marvin did an excellent job in the repair of our heatilator fireplace. He cleaned it including all three glass panels and put in some embers in that were sucked out during the cleaning. Additionally, he made some brackets for one of the glass panels that somehow was never there when we moved in To hold the panel in, he went the extra mile.
