    Denali Bluffs Hotel

I thought the Denali Bluffs hotel was a great stay during our overnight journey from Fairbanks to Anchorage with the stop in Denali Park. Good: the view was amazing! We had a river view room (well partial river view) and you could see the surrounding mountains and sunset. The staff was all super friendly and helpful. Rooms were great with heat and AC. Bus also comes and picks you up to get around the Denali park and to the bus depot! Bad: Walls are thin, like many people have said, if you're on the first floor, you'll hear everything, including the people walk into the room upstairs. Our room also wasn't ready in time (2 hours past check in time of 3:00) and they didn't call us to let us know our room was ready. Kind of frustrating. Also the room check out was 10 am! $200+ for like an 18 hour stay. Parking is also limited, if you don't get the 9 or so spots by the lobby, you'll have to walk up the hill to get to your room. However there is a golf cart with a driver helping guests around. Beds were okay, rooms were spacious, and our deck was nice having a outdoor view facing west. Overall, pretty average/good stay despite the flaws and overall I wouldn't mind staying here again if passing through Denali.

Stayed here for two nights in late July. I was a little worried because of negative reviews by fellow yelpers but I was pleasantly surprised. We got the newer rooms (Tenana wing), a corner room at the very end so we were surrounded by views of the mountains from 2 sides. There was a wrap around deck with a little table and chairs. The hotel is on the hill (hence the name Denali Bluffs) which made for nice views but a heck of a trek back up when you want to visit the little shopping village below. The shopping village has places to eat and several souvenir stores. They do have a shuttle that can take you back and forth but the front desk guy told us to walk down and have them bring you back up as the transit time can be 45 min (the shuttle route includes a number of other stops). There's a restaurant on property and a quick service place that has sandwiches, drinks, snacks etc. It closes by 6 I think. Front desk staff was pretty friendly and helpful. The pros: *clean room with rustic wood paneling *Comfortable bed, pillow could be fluffier *Shower water nice and hot *Fairly spacious room (1 king bed) *Wrap around deck w/pretty views *Fridge, Keurig coffee maker w/coffee and teas *Ample USB and plugs for charging *curtains blocked the light *AC/heater unit (didn't use) The cons: *lots of noise from the busy highway in front *smoke alarm installed close to the sleeping area- intermittent blinking was annoying at night * wooden floors so could clearly hear people walking upstairs above you (no one in the adjacent room so can't tell you about next door noise) *no Wi-Fi connection in lower units -we had to stay by the front office) * no in room microwave FYI-I sleep with earplugs so noise doesn't bother me but I'm sure others would be annoyed with the people walking above. All in all it was a nice stay, we'd stay here again

We had a wonderful stay at the Denali Bluffs Hotel. I wish we would have planned a longer stay! It is located inside Denali National Park and there is so much to see and do there. We had to wait a bit to get into our room, but the grounds were nice to just sit and relax while waited. The room was spacious and clean. Cost was reasonable, and the view from our room was worth the price! We had a wrap around porch with incredible panoramic views of the park. You will not be able to see Denali from the hotel. So if you are lucky enough to see it on your way into the park, take lots of pictures then. The restaurant on site had excellent food, and they also had a small sandwich shop. Both options were a little expensive, but the food was good quality. The hotel is also within walking distance of shops and more restaurants, but it is a fairly steep walk on the way back up. They do offer shuttle service though. If you are planning a stay at Denali park, I would highly recommend staying here.

This is a very nice hotel in the small tourist town of Denali. It's not perfect but it still deserves a 5. Here's why: They go out of their way to help. Our bus tour somehow was deleted, even though we had it fully paid. Their concierge worked to get it corrected and the hotel manager gave is a ride to the bus Depot just in time. An A+ for service! The rooms were clean and updated. The pillows were not my favorite but that's a small issue. The rooms were quiet but the air conditioner was something I wasn't used to. They have bus service to any place nearby, and it's free. Service was always fast and very friendly.

I am so happy that I chose this hotel. I had read reviews and knew that I didn't want to be on the ground floor because you hear people walking above you. So I got a second floor room and walked without shoes to be considerate of those under me. My room was 24 in building 24. It has a great view. The staff are pleasant and helpful. They operate a shuttle into the park which runs only once per hour. It also stops in the little town but the town is close enough to walk to. I found that a big benefit. I picked up supplies and made some meals in my room. There's a refrigerator and coffee maker. The restaurant of the hotel has a limited menu that didn't appeal to me. But I'm sure it did to others. The front desk staff offer to put people on a list for wake up calls when the aurora is visible but the list is very long. They gave me excellent advice and told me when to set my own alarm and where to go outside to look. It worked. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful regarding things to do in the park. My bag was delivered to my room after my arrival by train and brought down from my room and transported to the train for me when I was leaving. The grounds are pretty with many separate building of maybe a dozen rooms in each. Unlike other hotels that use overpowering floral sprays, this room smelled lightly of cedar.

A very worthwhile point…read moreis that the location is off the beaten track it's really very pleasantly tucked into the side of the hill with lots of woods around it. This ain't no princess cruise lodge! Reservations, and accommodating the guest need some work. We had to change our plans by one day over two months ago, almost immediately after making the first reservation, within 24 hours. Check out time is 11, check in time is four. We had to pay $25 extra to be able to stay in our first room until one. Guess we will find other things to do until we can move back into our second room at 4 PM Since we had over two months before check in, when plans change by one day, I called repeatedly and emailed looking to see if we could stay in the same room for both nights. Every time the answer was no. Unfortunately, I have a feeling with all these rooms that they have, there was a room that had a two night window in the last two months it became available, yet no one reached out. I reached out to the manager, Sue by email one month before our revival, one week before our arrival, and the day before our arrival with no success on relief from having to change rooms. We also ordered a romantic edition, which was a bottle of wine with a charcuterie tray. We had to remind them of this when we got to the desk, and a warm bottle of white wine and a prepackaged charcuterie. Kit were provided after we entered our room. Don't get me wrong, this is a nice place to be located at, yet remember is far up the hillside and any movement from your room requires stairs, and/or steep roads to the restaurant, the check-in desk, or the main drag in Denali/"GlittercGulch, where all the other hotels are. This became an issue due to my traveling partners new onset auto immune knee condition that appeared about a month and a half ago, and movement in the area is not very easily done if your knees are Inflamed. Just check out the picture of the stairs that I posted, and multiply that by five or six that are between each row of cabins. The staff is very nice, mostly summertime help, or likely on work visa as most work from other countries than the United States to include Jamaica, Macedonia, I am the Dominican Republic. Many of them have not even ventured out of the immediate area and enjoyed any of the local attractions when questioned about the best food, activities, and other possibilities. Denali national park is the highlight so far, and we will be doing some river rafting this afternoon and will report back on that. The other thing is that previous reports about the overlook restaurant seemed to be stellar, although it was closed last year and a Mexican restaurant has been opened with, but looks to be a very limited menu. As things changed quickly, I will verify all I said at this time, I see efforts to improve the grounds being Made, and can change in a short amount of time. Also, if you want a shuttle to Healy for the brewery it has great food, you need to arrange that separately. we used a tour company that goes by the same name as the town and the mountain, and they were very accommodating. There was only two of us going up to Healy and coming back. More to follow after the second night. Update! Right after sending in review, front desk called and stated that our new room number 501 was ready for us now. We asked to have our bags brought up, and a representative came up to give us our new key and our bags are down at the old room. Here is a view from the new room, 501 and its comparison to the Dall suite, # 408. So the second set of pictures are of our new room, watch out when going into the toilet and shower, the door hits the toilet and you have to go around it before closing the door behind you so you can access the toilet. All in all, this is a beautiful site with some formidable obstacles if you need easy accessibility or need to be accommodated in any way. The value is good, and my recommendation is to bring a vehicle, or maybe a golf cart, or maybe a power chair. I give it a strong 3/5!

Shuttle drivers were great driving the antiquated low visibility vans. If you are lucky to get lower, very nice setting. Staff were very helpful and tried to help when they could . Wouldn't have minded all these problems if it were $ 187 per nite. BUT. Just don't think we got a good value for $487 per nite.

The lodge building itself…read moreis attractive with nice views, but the rooms are in plain 3-story buildings out back -- nothing special, very Comfort Inn-esque. Big inconvenience: no lunch service at the restaurant, despite being far from any other food options. The low point was an interaction with Larry Smith, the restaurant manager. We'd brought a bottle of wine to drink by the fire before our anniversary dinner -- it was 40°F and raining out, our room only had one chair, and there was nowhere else indoors to sit. Larry told us we needed to remove the wine since we hadn't bought it on-site. We tossed the bottle and confirmed it, but he came back, checked our cups, saw wine still in them, and got confrontational, telling us to leave. A corkage fee would've been the normal way to handle this -- instead we were made to feel like criminals on our anniversary. Dinner didn't improve things: all three of our salmon orders, requested medium rare, came out overcooked. Drink selection was thin too. If you're looking at Denali lodging, check out the Princess or Holland properties instead -- nicer restaurants, and closer to everything in downtown Denali. We'd recommend the Princess or Holland properties instead -- better restaurants and closer to downtown Denali amenities.

Not a bad hotel, we got upgraded to a room with a balcony and it had the most gorgeous view. We had a room with 2 queen beds, which were decently comfortable. The bathroom was okay for the most part. It has some cracks in the wall and the baseboards, so maybe some renovations would make it look good. They had a few things in a refrigerated area for breakfast such as uncrustables sandwiches and bagels, but no toaster to toast the bagel only a microwave? The road to get to the hotel is super windy, lots of twists and turns to get up there. They clean the room only on request so make sure to tell the front staff. Check out time was 10, but we were able to push it to 10:30. The sweetest thing this hotel did was give me a basket of goodies for my birthday that I was celebrating while there! Otherwise this place is a bit lacking. All the rooms are located below a steep hill, but there is a shuttle that runs frequently to save to the climb. Room that I stayed in was pretty basic. No refrigerator or air conditioning. Also, this place severely needs more pubic bathrooms! This hotel is mostly for people on tours which in most cases leave much later than checkout time. So at times there will be large numbers of people sitting around the lobby waiting for pick ups. In the mens room there are two stalls and two urinals. Lines form to get in! Another issue was a phantom fire alarm at 1am! We had just retuned from a "midnight" ATV excursion and had just fallen asleep to be awaken to alarms. Really sucked because by the time we got back to bed it was almost 2am and we had to be up at 5:30 to catch a 7am tour of Denali. We did eat at one of the restaurants on the premises. It was a bit overpriced (expected). My wife's halibut was decent, my chicken was dry and didn't have a lot of meat. I'm sure, in most cases, this hotel is just included in your tour package. But if you have a choice, I'd stay at the sister hotel (run by Princess) it looks a bit nicer.

The rooms at the HA in Denali are cabins, which is a great concept, but the rooms are terrible--dirty, outdated, and the beds are terrible. The facility is semi-accessible. The shuttles do have lifts if you need one, but the sidewalks are very uneven and cracked so be careful if you are in a wheelchair or have a cane or walker. The Grizzly Cafe in the lobby was awful. We bought a lunch pack (for $22) and were given a moldy sandwich. When we tried to return it or get our money back (or in store credit) they would not do it. Nothing. We were basically told that we could have another sandwich; when we got back it was almost dinner time, so we just wanted our money back or credit, but nope. It was pretty crappy. The bus to Fairbanks is grubby and there was no air--it was so hot, like terribly hot on the bus. Overall, if I do this trip again I would take the cruise to Anchorage and then rent a car and make our own arrangements for the land portion.

There are two other lodges located this far into the park, but one is clearly more for families and the other for those who are cool with sharing bathrooms with a number of guests. I fit neither of those categories, hence why I picked backcountry lodge. To start off, I went during June 2020 when there were only 8 total guests at the lodge(usually have 70+) and the trains were not running so barely any "day tip visitors" which I was told is anywhere from 100-200 extra guests at the lodge for the day. To say I was spoiled to be there with it so deserted is an understatement, but to make up for that the staff was anything but spoiling to us when it came to activities, going with the flow, or accommodating for the weather. Let's start with what everyone else talks about on here- the food! So, the food is pretty good. Breakfast and lunch exceeded my expectations. Dinner was so-so (any time you order a prime rib and they don't ask you how you would like it cooked should be a red flag). Dessert was above and beyond every night, so overall I say the food was a 4/5. The lodge and cabins are beautiful, maintained well and had no issues with heat in the room or bathroom water temperature. The bus ride into the park with Eric was phenomenal, he went slow for everyone to be able to spot wild life accordingly and he was very personable and kind with the guests. We saw 5 bears, a fox, caribou, a couple moose and even got to see a baby bear. The drive out of the park was a different experience, I felt like the driver was racing to get back for literally no known reason(trains weren't running) and he went so fast that there was no way to spot wildlife efficiently (I've been to Africa twice so I know a thing a two about spotting wildlife). He also mentioned to not bring up politics to him because we probably wouldn't like what he had to say. There was only 5 of us in the bus and we only knew his first name, so I'm not sure why he thought any of us would bring up politics with him to begin with so that was beyond strange IMO. I didn't realize that this lodge can only bring you out so far and you cannot do certain hikes near wonder lake because the other lodge there doesn't allow it (?) and the lodge only allows you to do 4-6 hikes nearby. A rogue bear in the area kept us from using the bicycles on site so that didn't help to the "not much to do situation" either. Steven took us on a guided hike which I had never done before but it was great because he taught us about the tundra and the history of Kantishna/gold mining. The staff kept saying we could do hikes on our own as well, but when asking to bring us out to a hike for us to do alone the seemed hesitant for some unknown reason. Sebastian also took us on a quick outing to Fannie Quigleys home and he was very knowledgeable about her and the overall history of the area as well. Garrett at the bar was fantastic, super personable and great talker. Other staff members who did not have direct verbal communication with us seemed a little unpleasant in the common areas considering we're all here in the middle of no where together. A smile back or simple hello is appreciated from someone like me but I do understand some guests there don't even want to look up from their phones let alone smile. Read the room! My biggest complaint of this place would be the manager. I did not even know who he was until the last day. I was sitting at the breakfast table where I just got my meal 5 mins prior (for whatever reason it took longer this day) and the manager had the audacity to scream "if you're leaving today you need to get on the bus now!". No joke, there were only 3 of us in the dining hall and I was the only one leaving since the other two just got there. Why he didn't have the courtesy to walk over to me to let me know I needed to stop eating and board the bus is beyond me, but when I found out later on the bus he was the manager I was livid. How dare you bring this place down in the last minutes of my time there. If you treat paying guests this way, how do you treat the staff? Might explain a thing or two.. Because of that incident, this place became hard to recommend. If you are thinking of staying here it should be because you want to get as far into the Denali interior as possible, sleep and bathe comfortably, and eat well. You can stay at the other lodges and do these hikes plus more, see Wonder lake and hike near there as well.

Considering that all lodging, restaurants etc are only open 4 months in a year, it's not bad at all. The hotel is nothing fancy and it could use an upgrade, but it's definitely much better than some reviews make it sound.
