The lobby, theatre, and restrooms were all clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Another pleasant experience at this cinema.

There are usually several main stage adult musicals and plays every year in addition to two or three children's focused productions. Everyone involved puts their heart and soul into the productions, and it really shows on the stage. You really get an insane amount of value for the price that you pay for tickets (usually around $20). The theater lobby was recently renovated including a much needed redo of the bathrooms. They have a fairly well stocked concession stand that offers a variety of chips, candy and popcorn. In the summer months, they also often serve ice cream in the ed center located next door. Seating is either in the balcony or on the ground level and seats are decently spaced out and fairly comfortable. There is on street parking nearby but also several larger lots within quick walking distance. I highly recommend checking out a performance here. You won't regret it!

I cannot believe the outstanding level of talent, and entertainment, I have experienced for less than 20.00 dollars a performance. This two- level theater is small, and intimate. Dedicated staff, and volunteers, add their personal touch to help their patrons have an enjoyable outing. Because the theater is small, foot traffic in, and around lobby can get a little tight at times. Especially if ticket purchase, snack counter, and rest room lines overlap. During intermission, it has been a tradition to offer a serving of ice cream in exchange for a small donation. Nice gesture and well-received. I highly recommend taking the time to catch one of their upcoming shows.

The seating is small and intimate , probably not room for more than 50, so everywhere you sit you will have a great view of the show! The parking can get a little tricky, but there are shuttles if you park on the streets in Carnegie, and even if you can't figure out the shuttle schedule or if none are being offered the night of your ticket, it's just a short walk up the hill from Main Street! The next time I come to a show here I'll be sure to plan dinner and a drink at 131 East before or after ! So glad I got to experience this local performance stage !

I saw Hedwig at Greer Cabaret Theatre on Sunday. They changed the script to include Pittsburgh references but decided to leave in the line "and the colored girls sing..." in reference to Lou Reed's song Walk on the Wild Side. There were millions of other lines they could have chosen to reference Rock N Roll culture. Why choose this line? Why have white actors say that line? Regardless of who Lou Reed was referencing in the song, describing people as "colored" has a very specific meaning in the context of the United States history. Furthermore, he has omitted the word "colored" from the song and has other questionable songs in regards to race. City Theatre is comprised of a predominantly white board, white staff, and this show was primarily white actors with a largely white audience. I reached out on Sunday and asked for them to refund my tickets. I have not heard back from them.

It's also nice to have a picnic beforehand. There's plenty of parking as well near Phipps or a little further away if you come close to when the move starts. I've been her to see Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and the Muppets. The sound is not the best since the speakers are only in the front, so they also put subtitles. There were also a few people near us smoking the first time, but the second time we went, they made an announcement beforehand requesting that people move to the side. It had been a cloudy blustery day in the grand Steel city. A day intended for hot toddy's, horror…read moremovies, and "grown up" cider. That can only mean as the sun sunk low beyond the horizon it was time to choose a haunted house. Pittsburgh is not lacking for choices when it comes to ways to scare yourself at night. (I'm not even talking about the parade of horrors on the Southside or the underage drunk college kids screaming in Oakland.) In all the options my group of four decided to try a haunted house that was brand new. I realize that this can mean a subpar haunt, but I'm willing to chance it. Parking in the Strip District on the weekend is still dicey, (I don't know why I thought that dropped off in the 90's, maybe because I haven't hung out down there since the 90's.) but even with a larger vehicle we found a spot. There is absolutely no line outside, like with other haunted houses. Just a sandwich board type sign, an attendant, and a police officer (which was a surprise). The attendant instructed us in a very non-spooky way to just head down the steps. Once downstairs, the lights are low and a greenish blue color, the air somewhat fog-smokey. Tickets were 17$ a person which seems to be standard fare for a haunted house general admission. Inside the building we found the queue. Pallets nailed together to look like the sorts of passageways cattle are lead through in a slaughter house. They had a small flat screen television playing the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. A few actors came out to interact with the crowd, one was great and doing just the sorts of things that key up an audience the other just sort of stood behind you and most of the time he moved on before you even knew he had been there. The woman who ran down the rules didn't stay in character very well, and this was a theme throughout the attraction. They do have a nice large space, some of the rooms are huge and sprawling with some really interesting pieces like old grocery store equipment, cases for meat, etc. There is even a school bus inside this basement haunted house. It has potential. That's the only real compliment I have for them. It's not there yet. If they can maintain this space all year, work on the look of each room, fine tune it from kitschy to horrific, hire more actors, and talk to them about focus and the theme of their character it could become another one of Pittsburgh's great haunted houses. For now though, it's just some stumbling, some incredibly awkward talk about every girl being a "nice piece of meat that (I) can't wait to eat," a few startling scares, and at least one if not two juggalos.
