This hidden theatre behind the rest of the Waterworks Shopping Plaza, offers comfortable recliner seating. You choose your seat when you purchase your ticket. There is a row for handicap seats. The sound and projection are both excellent. We didn't partake in the concession stand. It has parking outside its entrance and when full there's a pedestrian walkway through the shopping plaza to use the abundant parking in the front of the plaza. The lobby, theatre, and restrooms were all clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Another pleasant experience at this cinema. read more

Had a great experience at this theater! There was plenty of staff on site. Bathrooms were clean. It was Monday so we had discounted tickets and got free mini popcorn. The popcorn was good. Came to watch the Clooney movie about Crew - "The Boys in the Boat" (BTW - great movie!). First time at this theater, and I was quite impressed! Ticket purchase online was easy-peasy! I noted on their website that they have special pricing most days for various groups. Very reasonable prices overall! Inside the theater itself - very impressed with the comfortable reclining seats, spacing and set up for viewing. Couldn't be better. We did not get any snacks or drinks, so can't comment about that, except for a very unfortunate news segment I coincidentally saw after we'd left. Significant Health Department issues, so...yuck! Clean up your issues there, and this would easily be a 5 out of 5 experience! read more

Volume was SO low. Screen seemed further away, recliner seats made MAD noise when anyone tried to adjust. Half of the audience were on their phones with full brightness, interrupting the movie every 5 minutes to try to be funny, talking so loud, eating popcorn SO loud, blowing their noses for 2 minutes straight and having coughing fits. This was my second time seeing Wicked- the first time was opening day in NYC Regal Cinemas. The fact that New Yorkers could shut up more than this audience on opening day says a lot. I had been here once pre-COVID and at the time, this had been one of the nicer theaters in the Pittsburgh area. It was newly renovated, and it was one of the first places that rolled out assigned seating (which, for the record, I'm not a fan of, but that's another story). Post-COVID, i.e. as of the summer of 2023...the "renovation shine" is definitely long gone. First impressions upon walking in with a friend were not good as the ticket orders kiosks were down. All of them. Everyone who needed tickets for their evening movie had to walk up through the concessions line. (Remember when you could just buy tickets in one line without waiting on people slowly choosing what drinks and snacks they need? Bring that back please.) My friend went to our seats ahead of us because I needed to use the bathrooms. Oh boy. Those bathrooms looked like they hadn't been cleaned or stocked in days. Strike two. And then there was the movie screening itself. The speakers were broken. They crackled and popped the entire runtime of my movie (all two and a half hours of it); I legit thought there was a kid behind me crunching up plastic or playing with a toy or something, but no: it was the speakers. If I had been there alone, I would have walked right out and asked for my money back, that's how bad it was. According to my friend, most of her visits here aren't that bad, and that specific screening room was the worst one she's been in. Of course, it's not like I as an audience member have any power to avoid seeing a movie in a broken screening room. Because of that, and because I have better ways to spend my money and time, I don't plan to come back. read more

Assigned reserved recliner seats. It's easy enough to buy your tickets in advance and pick your exact seats. The reclining seats are comfortable, and the visabillty and sound is very good. The bathrooms are fairly clean, and the men"s room features thoughtful quotations strategically placed. I can't say I'm a fan of the food options, but it's very typical, and of course pricy. The popcorn is pretty good. They have a good selection of first run movies. There are several great options to eat or shop while you are waiting for your movie. read more

I took my 5 year old to see Puss in Boots. What a blast. It was a matinee so it wasn't too expensive and really there's no reason to have anything bigger than a small popcorn because a small is huge! The highlight was definitely the comfortable reclining seats. read more

I visited the Waterworks Cinemas on Saturday to see the new Spiderman movie! They really made this theater SO much better than what it used to be. I have been going here since I was a kid, and used to go every Monday during high school. My friends and I called it "Mega Movie Monday" which I'm pretty sure we made up ourselves. lol! It used to be $5 and free popcorn on Mondays. They still do the Monday deal, but it is now $6.25 and still includes free popcorn. We went on Saturday afternoon and the matinee price was only $8. You reserve your tickets online and pick exactly the seat you want. Spiderman was obviously super popular, so the only seats left when booking 1 day before were the second row ones. I was nervous about it, but these seats are so comfortable and recline, so it wasn't an issue! Each person has their own reclining chair. There is lots of space in front of the seat, so you aren't jam packed in the theater. I did doze off in the middle because I was so comfortable. I shared some of my brother's popcorn which was buttery and delicious. I noticed that they also had gourmet popcorn like cheddar and other flavors available. The customer next to me had a huge tray of nachos. One weird thing about this movie theater is that there aren't any workers that let you in. We went to the ticket kiosk, typed in the reservation number on my receipt from purchasing the tickets, and then it printed them out. We then just walked into movie theater 7 and went to our seats. I do feel like anyone could just walk into any theater here. The women's bathroom was really gross when I had to run there in the middle of the movie. I actually got a staff member to let them know, and they said they were about to clean it since a big showing just let out. A few years ago this theater was totally revamped and amazing. They have assigned seats in the comfy recliners - I love being able to purchase a ticket beforehand and not worry about getting to the theater early to snag a seat. However, on a recent visit my assigned seat was dirty and the upholstery was ripped. I was lucky because it was a very empty show. I decided to just move down the aisle, but found similar situations in many of the other seats. I just think it needs some repairs once again. read more

awful. they implemented a new rule where you cannot see a movie after 6PM without an adult (21+) present. I went with my two friends to see Inside Out 2 this evening, and the lady ID'd us. she then turned us away and gave us a "rain check" ticket. she was very rude and said she didn't have to give us the rain check ticket because we should've known better. she said they posted the rule all over their website. i didn't go on the website to buy the tickets. i got them off of fandango. how was I supposed to know? to make matters worse, there was a literal TORNADO warning outside and this lady turns us away (2 16-year-olds and one seventeen year old). why can't a sixteen or seventeen year old see inside out 2 at 7:30 on a Wednesday? and why can't staff at least be kind regarding a new rule that no other theaters have? read more

The theater is not updated from the entry or outside; however, the seats in the theater are lovely reclining leather seats. It's apparent their equipment hasn't been updated as in the middle of the film it buffered (I've never seen this happen before) and after nearly 10 minutes of waiting we left as it was buffering frame by frame. We weren't offered any refund or voucher, which I find disappointing when you can't get what you paid for. read more

For a place I would have given one maybe two stars to less than two weeks ago, Waterworks Cinema really stepped up their customer service game. Though I must note, they could have done a much better job off the bat, and it did take me writing to the General Manager to get compensated but nevertheless, they did just that and more. I am not a huge movie goer. That being said, I love movies. Weird yes. But I find theaters uncomfortable. However, this is the time of the year that I will usually forgo my comfort and see a few especially because most of the predicted Oscar nominated movies are out in the theaters this time of the year. We traveled here the day after New Year. I recently had knee surgery and agreed to go because we ordered tickets to see Manchester By The Sea online (at a premium plus a surcharge), to be seen in their luxury seating area. I was pretty excited since I really wanted to see this film and the seats were awesome. (Note this was the closest theater still showing this movie, but not very close to us.) I still had to elevate my knee because I couldn't bend it to a full seated position. So we arrive to the theater and it was a mad house. No big deal, we were covered since we already bought and paid for our tickets right? Anyway we go through the line, get physical tickets, have them ripped by the usher and head into the theater to find that our seats are taken. Actually every seat in the theater is taken. I am assuming at this point that the people sitting there "stole" our seats. I hurry to get an employee as I am not approaching these people. Turns out after such a long process of talking to this employee who eventually takes us to see a manager that their online ticket ordering has a glitch and they sold our seats twice. SORRY. Blinded by anger and frustration, we received a refund, and were asked if we wanted to see another movie. I went on to tell the manager I wanted to see that movie and sit in those seats. He just agreed with me, no help there. So we end up in the busiest theater with no leg room or otherwise watching a movie we could have seen at our local theater for $4.00. It was packed to the gills and my knee was aching as was my temper. I decided I was not taking this as an equal compensation and wrote the manager. I was contacted very quickly regarding my experience, and the lack of compensation. They informed me that they understood my frustration (who couldn't) and wanted to reserve two tickets to see Manchester in the luxury seating on any day or time of my choosing. Most unfortunate part was it was only being shown for another week and a half (according to the email) so we had to jump on this offer. In the email they also stated they would offer me another set of complimentary tickets to be used whenever. I reserved the day and when we arrived (on a much less busy day) our tickets were pre-printed and waiting in the office with one of the managers. Upon receiving our tickets he apologized again and asked if we wanted a small popcorn or soda. I told him my husband was already getting some and that it wasn't necessary that I was only upset about the movie tickets. I did ask about the second pair of tickets and he said he couldn't authorize that. Hmmm well I told him it was in the email, but I would just deal with it later. We head to the luxury theater and are greeted by an usher who takes our tickets and seats us, a process they neglected on our last visit. After settling in the man returns with two complimentary tickets to another movie. I'm guessing the night manager contacted his boss and he confirmed what the email said. The luxury seats were awesome. I really don't want to go back to seeing another movie in a regular theater again. And the movie was really good! I hope it wins a couple Oscars. Thank you management for stepping up, better late than never. Lastly I caution anyone who may purchase their tickets in advance online not to since their system isn't reliable. read more

This theater has come a long way from when I first started seeing movies here. It was always a good theater. Locally owned, friendly staff, reasonably priced and clean while showing all the new releases. As time goes on, the bigger chains (which I still like and support) come in and up the theater game by offering premium seating, wonderful sound systems and multiplex experiences. Waterworks cinemas, sticking to their guns, switched over to stadium seating in reclining leather seats whose location you specifically pick when you buy your ticket. No more waiting in line, hoping that you can get there early enough to get a decent seat. That part is already taken care of at the cost of a regular ticket. Also, you can even buy your ticket and pick your seat from your smartphone. They even have a discount on Monday's where tickets include a small complimentary popcorn, and parking is plentiful. I love movies and I try my best to support local businesses, and this is a great combination of the two. read more

We went to see Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children because I love Tim Burton and I really enjoyed the book when I read it. We got to the theater a little bit later because we were eating at Uncle Sam's. Which ended up not mattering because the previews were just starting to play when we got to the theater! Since it was a weekday (Tuesday) the front ticket booths were not in operation. We had to purchase our tickets at the concession stand. The service was prompt and the person who we paid was very friendly. We didn't get any popcorn or snacks since we just ate. Next time I will try to get some so I can review how their popcorn is. I am a bit of a popcorn snob so I would like to taste theirs. We ran to the theater and sat down to an empty house. The seats are comfortable and the arm rests do move. This made it easy for me to lean on Chris without an armrest digging into my side. While the movie was just eh, my experience at the theater was very nice. I believe they also do discount movies on Mondays. They offer no other discounts other than their Monday discount. I was slightly sad about this because I like to use my student id to get money off as much as I can. But still, it was nice to get out of the house and to see a newer movie. I understand why everyone seems to not think so highly of this place. But get over it people. This is probably one of the areas best theaters to go to. Yes, it's true, the theaters don't all have the best seating. In fact they have the classic seating set up. Which is nice. Yes, stadium seating is convenient, and makes you feel like you are sitting on top of the world, but this classic seating actually made for a better experience for me. Let us also not forget that this isn't part of one of that mega national chains. They aren't as concerned with you earning those points for their rewards program. What they are interested in is the fact that you enjoy your experience. Might I suggest attending here on a Monday. $5, free popcorn and ample parking. I know what you are thinking, SouthSide does this too. But when you factor in parking fees at their site, you are actually paying more. There is 3D capability here, at least two of the theaters are able to show these type of movies. The movie selection is great as well. read more

I hadn't been here in ages, since the luxury recliners were installed, so it was a nice surprise when we got to the theater. The front of house looks the way it has for years. Honestly it's a little nostalgic. Something else that was new since I was last there is picking seats when purchasing tickets. I'm not a fan, but I'm sure it helps them with efficiency. Unfortunately I got stuck sitting next to a someone yammering on about how much the movie sucked the whole time. She wasn't wrong, but I went to see the movie my partner wanted to see for his birthday and just didn't care to hear it. Matinee tickets were $8, and a large popcorn was $6.25, so prices weren't too bad. We came here only after our first choice theater didn't have a wide enough selection of movie times. It probably will stay that way because of the seating situation at Waterworks now. read more

The owners of this establishment are wonderful, and for that alone I come out here as often as I can. They support their local community and from my experience the staff are always friendly. All and all is was okay. Went to see the Aquaman movie - it was very crowded. Two things irritated me. 1. There was not much space for you to get snacks. It just seemed to be a long line of people (those waiting for their viewing mates before the ticket area, and those waiting to get snacks. 2. Went to the 6:30 PM showing - it was pretty dirty for a 6:30 PM showing on a Friday. I am not sure if the staff had enough time to clean / sweep or if they were understaffed. No complaints about the movie or the snacks. Just the small stuff that made it mediocre. I have had better luck in Bridgeville (Phoenix Theaters) and Robinson (Cinemark). I would still go there to see a movie. read more

Before they installed their new seats I would have given the Waterworks Cinema a 3.5 but oh man, those seats. They recline all the way back. It has gone from being our little decent movie theater to the most comfortable movie theater I have ever been to. And now you can reserve your seats! They do a great job all around. The location is also perfect for shopping and strolling (and grabbing a drink) before the movie. Also you cannot beat that $5 snack pack. It is a tiny candy, a little popcorn, and a little soda. The front of the house hasn't been updated so it still looks a bit dated. However they have great service and the prices aren't bad. We usually don't go to the movie theater too many times in a year but we have been lately. We like to see all of the Oscar nominated movies. We have been to the Waterworks a few times in the last month so now is a good time to write my review. The movie that we were going to see had luxury seats available. I didn't know that this theater had luxury seating so we were excited to try them out. I saw that I could book the seats online or we could just come into the theater to buy them. Our movie wasn't starting until later that afternoon so we were just going to wait until we got there. If you try to book the tickets online you can pick your specific seats which is great. So I was checking through the morning to see if the seats were getting reserved and bought quickly and they were. So I decided to just buy the tickets then so we could get good seats and not risk them getting sold out. So I got them and they did charge a convenience fee. We get to the movies theater a few minutes before the movie begins. We got our tickets and walk into the movie theater. It looked like a worker was standing in the back that should have seated us to our seats because its luxury seating but he did not. So we walked to our row by ourselves and it was full of people. Somebody was in our seats! We go back to the guy who I think is a worker and I let him know. He didn't handle it good. I was upset and my wife was getting upset and when she gets mad watch out! To make a long sorry short we eventually got to the manager which handled the situation for us. There was a glitch in there computers that had been happening since they got these new seats and website through MovieScoop. It had been double booking seats he said. He kept apologizing and offered to give us our money back because the movie was sold out. He also offered us another movie to watch for now or for the future for free. I just decided that since we were here that we should just go now. We got free tickets but for a regular theater and not luxury. I think that we were just in so much shock of what had just happened we didn't go about this the way that we wanted. The movie that we went to was good but we didn't like being cramped in a big theater and in regular seats. We were still upset so my wife (Who is great) emailed the movie theater a very stern message about what we went through and that they needed to make up for it. They got back to her and they did a really good job handling the situation and compensating us even more. We went to see another movie and this time in the luxury seats. We were greeted when we walked in and he gentleman showed to our seats. It was a great experience this time and everything that we were looking for. We will be coming back to this theater but only for the luxury seats. I still have some issues with this movie theater so that's why I'm giving them a 3. It would be a 1 but because they handled this situation very well I think a 3 is appropriate. We will be back and I will update my review once we have been here a few more items. read more

Time to update my review since they have been updating this theater! This is my local movie theater, although it had been awhile I have seen a movie here (see: other theater reviews detailing my shameful addiction to Cinemark popcorn). But I've come here a couple of times recently upon learning that they are renovating to add luxury reclining seats. And let me tell you...now that I've watched a movie in a recliner, I don't ever want to go back to a regular old movie seat! These seats are leather and have electronic controls that let you adjust how far up/down you want to be. They are roomy and comfortable and let you prop your feet up like you're in your own living room. Big drink holders too, and plenty of space in the aisle to move past others. So far they've added the luxury seats in four or so of their theaters, and an employee told me that the plan is for them to eventually replace all of the seats in each theater. Note that each theater space itself is obviously the same, just the seats are being changed out...so some theaters have stadium seating, but others are still the old school non-stadium set-up, just as it's always been. The luxury seats cost like $2.50 or $3.00 more, and I think that's a reasonable premium to pay for being comfortable. I also like the fact that you can go online and reserve your seat in advance. You pay a dollar surcharge per ticket, but if you're afraid of your movie selling out, I think it's worth it to order them in advance (I see a couple of others here have had trouble with the theater double-booking their seats, but FWIW, I didn't have trouble with my online tickets). Overall, I think it was a great idea for the Waterworks Cinema to add these seats to their otherwise outdated theater. It really differentiates them from other theaters in the area, and regardless of my Cinemark popcorn addiction, I'm going to start patronizing my local theater a lot more now! read more

They are currently in the process of updating their theaters and boy are they nice! I went on the crowd favorite "Movie Monday" where tickets are currently 5.25 (a slight jump from the previous $5). I was bummed to find out my movie sold out so I grabbed a ticket to another movie, that was slated for a similar time, for an extra buck. Why the extra $1? The movie was only available in one of their recently updated theaters and let me tell you, it was the best $6.25 I ever spent. I had the pleasure of watching the film from an oversized, extra squishy, lay down chair (which reclines at the touch of a button). Similar to other upgraded theaters, you get to choose your own seat. read more

With last week's Mighty Movie Monday check-in, I earned the coveted title of Duke! This makes my 3rd movie theater Dukedom. I would like to give my acceptance speech, but Yelp offers no award for such accomplishment lol! Maybe that's because probably 100% of Yelp members don't go the movies as frequently as I do. I've been a moviegoer as far back as I can remember and no plans of ever stopping lol. This cinema was built in 1990 and renovated in 2000. I remember coming here as an early teenager with my cousins on weekends. Since an adult I would come by occasionally over the years. When I visit this theater I get a nostalgic feeling like I walked into an old Showcase Cinemas. I guess that means maybe it's due for an update, but actually hope it stays the way it is. I like the steep stadium style seating in their 10 viewing rooms. Though it reminds me of a Showcase Cinemas, it is part of the Golden Star Theater chain which has 10 locations in Pa and Oh. I think their prices are a bit high for not being a modern cinema. Adult prices are $6.75 before 6p and $9.25 after 6p. Children and seniors are $6.50 all day. Any 3D movies are a $3 surcharge. Mondays are $5.25 all day and includes a free 32oz popcorn. Thursdays are senior discount days and all tickets are $4.50 for seniors. Overall you'll get a pretty good movie experience here. Usually is pretty clean inside, no sticky floors lol. I'm not sure of concessions as I usually skip past it. They have Thurs night early premieres of all the biggest movies. Okay so this place is old and not updated, but I just love it here. It's the movie theater I feel most comfortable in. Waterworks cinema is never over crowded and never sold out. Normally the price of a ticket is $2 even $ 3 less expensive then other places. This is my theater of choice. If you go on the right day, you can see a movie playing with just 6 other people in the theater with you. I am all about crowd aversion especially when it comes to seeing movies. Not all of their theaters have stadium seating though, but they do have 3d screens, but no imax. read more

I understand that all theaters are known to have high concession stand prices. I have NO issue with that. I know that when I purchase something. BUT to be charged $4 for a cup (that is typically filled with soda) - a SMALL cup at that - is ridiculous. Then, the manager had the audacity to say "well why didn't you ask for a complimentary cup" - I was put over the edge. This was my first - and LAST visit to the waterworks theater. I, sadly, can not read minds, so did not know a complimentary cup was available. Especially when I asked for a bottled water and she offered to give me a cup of water/ice instead. A bottled water (16 oz) is $3.75. A cup of water (Under 10 oz) is $4. The manager was not helpful, just said "sucks to be you". REALLY? I tried not to pay for it, but all i had was a $10. I asked for a receipt and she told me that the machine was out of tape and could not provide me with a receipt. The customer service all in all was terrible. The idea that they charged $4 for a cup of water is ridiculous and appalling. Yes, I recognize that it was my fault for buying something at the concession stand. But seriously - WATER. My husband and I love to come to this cinema when we're in Pitt. It's right down the road from his parent's house, so super convenient. They have the usual blockbusters (sadly no artsy films here), but it IS locally owned. The theater is clean and the patrons are polite. The bathrooms were REALLY clean! Nicer now with luxury seats. This is a good theater in a good location for a date night. Most of the main movies come here and they have a $5 movie special on Mondays. They recently updated the chairs in some theaters to awesome luxury recliner seats. These give an awesome experience. I would like to see more food options at the snack bar but with all the food options at the waterworks you can't go wrong. read more
