Great memories over four years at Denison University's athletic complex in Granville Ohio with WashU Swimming. The complex is maybe ten years old, but looks new. It houses indoor track, tennis and swimming. My visits after Thanksgiving have been at their annual Denison Invitational Meet with my son. The school uses the opportunity to fundraise the local food bank. My specific experience with the school is through swimming only. So the rating has nothing to do with academics, although I know from ratings and word of mouth it is a strong D3 school. The pool is a looker. It's a 50 meter with diving wells. They also installed a very large spectator area to hold large events like conference and the Denison Invitational. However, a star deduction with air quality issues over the years. This makes competing much harder. So long Denison University. My son has graduated out of this meet and it will be missed. Not just the facility, but the people and memories it holds. read more

I was very impressed with The Mitchell Center at Denison University at the Trumbull Aquatic Center that was added in 2012. The first time that I went there to watch a Special Olympics Powerlifting competition, there was a pool that was smaller than it is now before the Trumbull Aquatic Center was built. The pool is very fast and recently hosted the South Central Regional Swim Meet for Special Olympics Ohio. The lockers were great, except there was no hot water to take a shower possibly due to the weather. I would to come back to the Trumbull Aquatic Center at The Mitchell Center to swim with an alumni person and current team members. Thank you Denison University for the Aquatic Center. read more

This is a beautiful campus in Central Ohio. Not too far off of I 70. And about 25 miles from Columbus It sits up on a hill has obviously been here for a number of years. Has a beautiful chapel that welcomes you as you enter the campus. And then follows through with a number of beautiful old buildings augmented by some newer buildings in a similar style, and then some other buildings that are built obviously for functional reasons make the campus look very nice. Tons of mature trees, lots of green grass and a comfortable circular flow through the campus. We are just here for a track meet so we are sitting out by the stadium and the tennis courts.beautiful smaller school in Ohio read more

My daughter is a student at Denison and this university thinks of everything. They offer a wide variety of options and a diverse curriculum that allows students to explore, learn and discuss topics in a healthy environment. Denison offers a driver to pick up students in back lots, to food trucks on some weekends and bus trips for special events. It is these "small" touches that make a student feel comfortable on the hill. My daughter is so happy as a student here, she is really thriving. She loves her diverse group of friends and hates coming home. Denison has changed my daughter for the better and her critical thinking skills have greatly increased. read more

I loved my time at Denison. I graduated in 2005 with a degree in Theatre and Film. I loved the campus. I loved Granville. I loved living on campus all four years. The cafeterias were awesome. The classes were amazing. Small class sizes. I got a lot of personal attention from professors. I learned so much during my time at Denison. They also offer amazing scholarships! If I had to do it all over again I'd choose Denison every single time. Beautiful campus too! read more

Growing up, my father and I bonded over frequent visits to a small, local college to watch (and cheer on) their basketball team. Those are some of my fondest memories. Now, with a son and daughter of my own, I've become a huge fan of the Denison Big Red. We take time out of our busy schedules to drive a few miles down the road to cheer on the Big Red. NCAA basketball isn't all about packed arenas and $75 tickets. At Denison, you can get into the game for free (or, if you choose, the price of a small donation that normally, I believe, goes to charity). At the game, you can literally sit court-side and feel like you are part of the action, part of the team. You won't witness the NBA's next generation of high-flying stars, but you will see teams devoted to execution and hustle. All the drama of great competition is there. During half time we like to wonder around the beautiful campus and facilities. So, for helping me to make quality family memories and for providing top-notch competition that we can actually be close to and feel a part of, I toss five stars Denison's way. Go BIG RED! read more

Denison is a fantastic small private liberal arts school, just 30min outside Columbus, Ohio. With small class sizes, attentive professors, and plenty of support, the education is world-class. Everyone cares deeply about helping you build relationships with others and teaching you how to think for yourself and analyze the world around you. The campus is up on a hill, filled with scenic trees and manicured lawns. Granville, the town the campus is in, is such a sweet small town that features a fantastic farmer's market and fun shops and restaurants. read more

If you get the dinning hall be ready to eat because it's buffet and can't take anything home, but almost 80% local and organic and tons of choices. The reason for this review is to talk about my experience visiting Denison for the first time back in February. As I was flipping through the Weekender I saw the my favorite author (or at least one of them) was to be hosted by Denison that following week for an Author Lecture to discuss his new book "Whiteman'. I was SO EXCITED and made plans for the drive. I had heard it was beautiful town and I also wanted to check out the famously haunted Buxton Inn. As luck would have it, the day before the talk, we had a HUGE snow storm and I thought for sure it would be cancelled. Just in case, I called and was put through to the English Dept (who organizes these lectures) and asked if the talk would still be going forward as planned as I didn't want to make that drive if it wasn't. The lady wasn't sure but took my name and number and promised to get in touch with me if she heard anything. I honestly didn't expect to hear from her at all but several times during the day she called to touch base and called right before 5 pm as she was leaving work to tell me that the talk was still on and that the authors flight had arrived safely. I was so impressed with her friendliness, professionalism and will never forget how she went above and beyond. As a result, I was able to hear a great lecture from the author (Tony D'Souza), get him to sign my copy of Whiteman as well ask him questions in an open forum. Brilliant! I love how Denison hosts these authors and makes them available to the public as well. The campus itself was amazing, even in the dead of winter, and I was MORE than impressed with the parking facilities. What a great uni!! read more

Just back from the Big Red Weekend 2014 (parents, alumni). This is my fourth visit to Denison University after two visits with a prospective student, one move-in visit and now as a parent. I continue to be incredibly impressed with Denison University. A small liberal arts school, which enlisted the firm that designed Central Park back in the early 1900s to create a master plan they have followed, it's absolutely gorgeous. (and seems fairly well built-out, so no massive ongoing construction in progress.) Just 30 minutes from Columbus (16th largest city in the US) and with a very hearty alumni network, Denison's career services and ultimate ROI on their degrees is excellent. It's a huge priority for them going forward, so it's only going to get even better. They have such a strong real-world connection to externships, internships, and summer research, even students interested in business (a major they do NOT offer) should still be considering this school. The professors are lively and engaged, the midwestern friendliness is everything you'd expect, the town is incredibly gorgeous. Denison requires students live on campus for all four years, so despite a large number of students participating in semesters abroad, it is a very tightly knit community. Students here not only acquire an excellent education, practical career counseling (starting September freshman year), but they are likely to form lifelong friendships. They actively recruit across the world as well as across socio-economic groups (both need and merit aid is very generous) that students become adept at working across all levels of society and different cultural norms. (Nearly 40% of the student are multicultural, despite some old profiles in guidebooks that this school acquires a lot of east coast school grads, my son has yet to meet anyone like that.) Denison is part of Colleges that Change Lives, an overall excellent guide to some amazing schools. Having visited many of the schools in the book as well as similar schools with both sons, I can vouch that Denison University is one of the most impressive on several fronts. read more
