It's a beautiful nursery with knowledgeable staff. I picked up cyclamen, pansies, and primroses to brighten up my container gardens, the selection was wonderful and at checkout, a staff member gave me a tip on extending the lives and bloom of the cyclamen and the primroses (keep them outside but under cover to protect them from the rain). I noticed the beautiful lemon trees, too. I might have to return for them. Wonderful store with thoughtful displays and support for my gardening needs. I'll be back! read more

When it comes to gardening, I have no skills...zip, nada. And garden centers are overwhelming when you do not know what you are looking for. That is why I contacted Dennis' 7 Dees Garden Center, recently. I needed advice about plants for our challenging, bare, back yard that also needed to be dog-safe. Other nurseries I called, could not be bothered and told me to "just come in" and find my own plants. But not 7 Dees. I had the good fortune of speaking with Jake. He spent time with me looking up plants that they had in stock and made sure they were safe for the critters. (they also have an online list of their current stock...saves so much time) When I arrived at 7 Dees, Jake took us to each area of the store. By the time we were done, we had all the plants we needed to get a good start on our yard. Prices are a tad higher than Home Depot, but you will not find this level of quality, variety, and service at big-box stores. The entire staff was so nice and I was pleased to find everything in one spot. Dennis' 7 Dees will be our go-to garden center from now on. *Wowza...just noticed this a few days later when I took a look at my receipt. 7 Dees provides their customers a 1-year and one-time replacement guarantee on any of their regularly priced products that are planted in the ground (with the exception of damage caused by extreme weather conditions). Very large, well stocked garden center. Employees were helpful and knowledgeable with what plants to get for the area I was looking. My only complaint is there was not a lot of option for different plantar shapes (yes there were a lot of planters!) but all round deep pots, I was needing a more shallow rectangular planter. Came in today to buy plants for our front yard. They have a really nice selection of perennials and annual flowers, trees, grasses, bushes, evergreens, herbs, hanging baskets, accessories, pots, fountains and garden art. They have various carts for shopping as well (i.e. baskets, flat carts and wagons). There is plenty of staff available all around the garden in case of questions. My only complaint is their prices. They're definitely pricier than the big box stores, but have the same 1 year guarantee. Granted, the surroundings are lovely, but I'd suggest only coming here for small quantity purchases or if you need ideas on what to plant, as their staff is extremely helpful in that area. If you're looking for good deals, stick with the box stores. Located right off of Mill Plain. Large paved parking lot with plenty of spaces. Would recommend, especially if you're looking for guidance. We've brought in pictures of our planting space to ask for suggestions. Staff is very knowledgeable. read more

I ended up in Vancouver today and decided to stop into 7 Dee's. I had been there before for a class and loved it. I was greeted pleasantly by everyone I saw. Just a smile and hello is all it takes and that was accomplished. I had a few questions and I saw the woman that taught our wreath making class Nicole, so I started picking her brain for suggestions. She was kind, funny , friendly, very knowledgeable and most importantly never gave up on me and my crazy questions. She ended up leading me to exactly what I needed. I live in West Linn but now will not hesitate to run out to Vancouver to get help from Nicole. The young woman in the houseplant building was also very helpful. I LOVE the online order option. I was able to order four houseplants that were on an incredible sale. Although I wasn't able to pick it up on the same day, the employee who called was so sweet and great to talk to. I was able to pick up my plants the following day. Once I got there in person, everyone was friendly and happy to help. I even received help from someone even though he was on his lunch break. I received my plants, and they're so cute. I can't wait to add them to my home. I can tell the staff here works very hard, and the selection is amazing. I'll definitely be coming here again soon. I stopped by to purchase a coral bark maple tree, a large pot, and a hanging basket. I couldn't find anyone to help me with the tree. I grabbed the hanging basket and went to the cashiers to get assistance with the tree. There were 2 cashier lines, and no signs directing customers. The line I was in was long, the cashier was on the phone, and people in front of me had numerous items. The other line was shorter, to include 2 customers who walked up to that line. I went over to that shorter line. The cashier checked out 2 customers and singled me out and told me to go back to the longer line. No customer service for the tree, mean and randomly capricious cashiers. There is no particular quality difference at other establishments like this. I would not recommend this business. read more

Had a terrible experience with this shop and will never return again. We purchased some evergreen shrubs that they delivered and planted. Every single one of them died. I was told to water them and I did just that, religiously. Until the raining season. February we saw that they were all dried out, reached to the store and sent them pictures as advised. Played phone tags, emails and left messages. Every time we called we were told they were looking into it, waiting for management to analyze the situation. Every single time I talked to them they said they would call back and did not. I had to keep calling. Well months went by, we are now in May, I finally called again after phones calls and phones calls, demanding to get an answer. They basically told me the plants didn't survive because we didn't take care of them property. First Adriana told me we didn't water them enough, I reminded her that we are in the PNW, during winter months I wouldn't have to water since we GET RAIN HERE. Then she said they weren't cared for property. Well all my other plants are doing fine, just not those got delivered and planted by you. How do you expect me to take care of them? Put them in the green house while they were supposed to be surviving the nature? They were supposed to be evergreen plants! Rude and constantly talking over me and not listening to my concerns. Their customer service is a joke, and they are not standing behind their so-called one year warranty. The guy who came to plant them rushed out and basically dumped them in the holes that were barely holes. They were supposed to be planted 4-5 feet part. He had them all crooked not in a straight line and some are 2-3 feet apart. But nope they did not even acknowledge this instead they just plat out said "based on the picture you sent, you did not take good care of them" even though I watered them just as I was told. I was looking for a Wisteria plant for my mom for Mother's Day, and I happened to forget my mask at home due to covid-19. As I walked in, to the OUTDOOR garden center, an employee yelled at me rudely that "I needed to wear a mask". Basically getting kicked out of the garden center.. I get because of the pandemic, masks are recommended by CDC. But as I walked out of the nursery, I felt angry. Not a single plant in hand, with a bitter feeling. The way the employee treated me was not necessary. In fact, if he had told me NICELY to wear a face mask I would've been more than happy to return another time. However, no signs were posted about wearing masks was visible and some stores/nurseries it doesn't matter if you have one. Won't be getting my business anytime soon, which is sad because I was trying to support a local business. read more

The quality of their plants is outstanding and the staff is knowledgeable in all areas of flower/plant care. I found a high level of expertise from the lady that worked in the indoor plant area when she explained why my plant was leaning over and falling out of the pot. Their service level is top tier and everyone I've dealt with over the years have provided amazing customer service. I was particularly impressed with Lisa. Is basic human customer service no longer a thing? Had great customer service when asking where a plant was, but the cashier was honestly horrible. I had a newborn in my arms and my purse in my other arm, obviously struggling to get my wallet and everything out ..the cashier then asked me to pull the cart up around the counter close enough so she didn't have to take a simple 2 steps to scan my large plant. Also, didn't even offer to pick up the handle for me to hand it over when it fell on the ground, right next to her feet. When it was obvious she wasn't going to help me...She just stared at me as she saw me squatting down very slowly to bend over and pick up the fallen handle right in front of her, while making sure my purse items didn't fall out & once again... holding a baby. Didn't even say have a nice day or anything. It was the most awkward experience. Usually people offer to help if they see that you have your hands full? Especially store employees? When you're buying anything? Also there was no one else in line at all. That attitude needs to be checked! Bad customer service. read more

Went in with a woman that had a service dog to detect epilepsy. They asked her to leave without even asking any questions. They said dogs were not aloud in there. It was sad. I left too. I felt they were rude. I'm not sure how the worker could tell that the dog was not a service dog. It was a lab and super well behaved. The woman was very upset. read more

Wow, this is quite the garden center. Shorty's has multiple areas, inside and out, with just about everything you might need in your garden. The selection is wide and robust, but it's the service that really shines. I came in with a plant problem and Rob, the info guy (yes they have an information booth) took the ailing leaf I had brought in, put a small camera on it and showed me the problem on the computer screen, spider mites. He walked me around the place and showed me all the best ways to get rid of said mites and even showed me some alternate plants I could consider. It's a pleasure when you can get this kind of help at a garden shop, especially if you're like me, I've got thumbs, but they're not always green. A nicely created plant nursery can be like a wonderful garden walk, in this regard Shorty's excels. The plants on display, especially the ones in the outdoor areas, have the feel of a nice country path. Spending a little time in nature is something we all need. Just walking around this place makes you feel better about everything, even spider mites. They also have a house cat. Not sure what his name was, but he was enjoying the people (all the affection they were throwing his way) and when there were no human hands, he knew how to best use the nearby cactus plants. This place is the complete garden package, a helpful and knowledgeable staff, fair pricing and a ton of selection, oh and did I mention the cat? read more

Great nursery if you are looking for houseplants!! I couldn't find the plants that were recommended to me (since I have a black thumb) in Vancouver till I came here. I also mix my own soil now. They have coco coir, pumice and worm castings (60/20/20 mix). I was getting my plants and pumice from Portland Nursery, but now I'll just come here!! The giftshop girl was very friendly and I lingered around a pothos plant and a gentleman asked if I needed help. The only downside to the visit was the limited selection of pots. They probably have an order of pots coming in soon but the day I went, it was fairly picked over. Tempted to go back and get more plants but I'm trying to keep my plant maintenance manageable. read more

I don't know what "disgruntled employees" past reviewers are complaining about, because I've always had extremely good experiences here with VERY helpful staff. I'm a clueless and new to gardening, and the employees are so accommodating and kind with all of my questions. They have humming birds coming in the green house which it was so cool to watch. One thing was extremely upset me that I had to go to bathroom really bad. I am pregnant at 25 weeks and I asked the employee and he said no. I couldn't hold it any longer so I had to rush to different places until Walgreens have a bathroom that is open. I almost peed myself and almost got in car accident for rushing and stressing. Then I came back to pick up my husband with plants that we purchased. I felt unfair and still upset about bathroom situation as a pregnant woman. We spent 273 dollars for 10 shrubs and everything was so expensive. I just wish they have the special policy to allow the customer with needs that need to go to bathroom with Covid thing going on right now. read more

Well, I left a bad review after the "mask nazi" told us, not ask mind you, but told my wife and i to mask up despite being vaccinated. It wasn't so much as the mask as the condescending worker who seems to not mind that I dropped my $300 worth up wares, and walked out. If you need garden vegetable starts, forget Shorty's. I was told they would have a big shipment in yesterday. When I got there, the vegetable start area liked like the sanitizer section at Fred Meyer. Some people were not wearing masks, and others not staying 6 feet away. There was no monitoring of this. There is a like to get in, ant the check out line was at least 40 people long. Look for other alternatives. read more

Shortys Garden Center is where we go every single year not only for our spring plants but also the winter selection as well. They have really great prices for garland for the winter/christmas and I found when i went there last that they were have a sale on the garland so i got mine for about 2 bucks a foot and i think it was about 25 feet of garland. We normally get fruit trees here and the staff is SUPER knowledgeable on literally every plant there, they come up with good solutions to any issues you have trying to plan out your garden/landscaping, they are just great! read more

They have a HUGE variety of stuff but my first impression was kind of soured when I asked a question from the closest rep I found and she answered me like I asked the dumbest question ever. Which - maybe to a plant expert it was - but that's specifically why I went there and not a big box store - also I'm NOT a gardener... in fact I'm just trying to not kill my plants lol. I asked another question and she was even more attitude-y with her response but pointed me in the general area to where I could find something to help. She came back later because maybe she realized she was being rude but gave a matter of fact answer. Now the cashier was this super sweet young woman who was really polite and patient with my hyper kid. So I'm sure not everyone who works there is like the first person but it sets the tone for a place you know? I usually shop at Portland Nursery, which I love, but just moved up to Camas so I thought I'd try Shorty's and suport local stores. I went during their big sale earlier in the spring and spent over $200. I also signed up for their rewards program. Fast forward a couple months, I go back and spend another big chunk but they can't find my rewards. So I lost a bunch of rewards from the first time. I'm a senior and it's Wednesday (10% on Tuesdays), so I ask them since they lost my rewards, could I get the 10% off today. She called the manager and the manager kept her on the phone for over 5 minutes while I was standing there.... only to tell me "no". Customer service isn't their strong point. They lost a great customer - I'm a Master Gardener and spend $100s on flowers and plants year round. I'll go back to PDX Nursery where I don't have to pay sales tax. read more

I like this place although they're a little on the high side when it comes to price. But I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at their mulch prices which are really very reasonable. Quick service. They're understaffed like so many other places but they try! I'll definitely keep using them for mulch services every year if prices remain reasonable. read more

Plant quality is outstanding. Perennials outdoors after a long winter all looked fabulously healthy. Good selection of high quality tools. My friend got new Felco pruners, and I got a new watering wand with brass connector. Reasonable selection of soil and mulches. I've been driving by this place for years. I think in my younger years I probably stopped in here with my parents but didn't really care about flowers. I mean really, what twelve year old wants to be seen with their parents looking at plants and fountains? Fast forward to present day. My poor orchid that I've had for almost four years started to lose leaves. At first I was okay with it because it was only one or two leaves but then everything started to die off. I tried to google possible causes but there were too many options (plus an abundance of Lost references!). I finally got fed up with trying to identify what was wrong with it so I took it to Shorty's to ask their advice. I pull in about an hour after they opened to an extremely empty parking lot. I figured that was probably the norm for the season considering it is still technically winter. Anyways, I walked in to two staff members hanging out. Both were very friendly and eager to help me. Luckily, they came down to one cause and told me ways to try and bring the plant back to life. It was also time to replant my orchid so they showed me where their orchid supplies are (because yes, this is quite a large nursery) and helped me pick out the best kind for my particular type of flower. It was a lot cheaper than I thought it would be so I left as a very happy camper. I'm sure I'll come back if I need any other information or supplies. I'm already looking forward to go back to look at their indoor and outdoor selection. I'm now the type of gal who enjoys gardening so I am much more willing to look at said plants and fountains I avoided in my tween years. read more
