First of all, the prices are insane for the quality of food you receive. We had a few party of 3 and paid $50. Second of all I almost choked on a bread tie (pictured). I ordered the crepes and the bread tie was lodged in between the crepes and I had not noticed. I had put the slice of the crepe in my mouth and started chewing. After I realized there was something hard in it I took it out and found the bread tie. I was unable to notify any waitress because our waitress only checked up on us once and was no where to be found. read more

The prices are unGodly when you can take your family and friends to the comfort of your home and everybody kick off their shoes and get comfy as I cook & put together a feast that satisfies not only our bellies but our pockets! Plus- we have that quality time to catch up on laughter, football games or whatever our hearts desire and watch the little one run and play or cuddle with the newly born. I like Denny's, no matter where I go there's always something good for me to eat. Some places don't have the help that they need.

We loved going to denny's until today! We had a problem with our food order ( Burnt toast, eggs overcooked) and you could hear the cook "Tim" complaining about having to remake it, he was hostile and cussing " F' bombs" and yelling. Made us very uncomfortable! The waitresses and Manager were very nice and apologetic for his behavior, explaining that they have this problem with him and his attitude, and i could tell that they were uncomfortable with the hostile environment he was creating in the workplace. I feel bad for the people who have to work with this Hostile, angry at the world cook. Not sure why Denny's would keep someone working there who acts like this and makes the workers and customers uncomfortable. We will be return customers when this cook is not there! Again, the waitresses and manager were all VERY nice and always have been when we have visited so this review is NOT about anything other than the way the cook acted and how disrespectful he was! read more

Was looking for a Italian salad bar restaurant and found this Denny's three blocks off of the main drag. Its behind other buildings and at the end of any other developments, good for you bad for them i guess. Building is new so it was clean, as so was the restrooms! Maybe the restrooms were clean because you can't find them! No signs! Had the Country Fried Steak, it was good but like everywhere else it wasn't quite the size as pictured in menu. The steak was hot but the mashed potatoes were a little cold! Spouse had the Bourbon Chicken, it was tasty but the cubed potatoes were soggy! Waitress was friendly and helpful and attentive! Wow. I have never enjoyed a Denny's so much but this location is always wonderful. After working all day and yesterday night late I decided cooking dinner wasn't going to happen but didn't just want fast food so decided that I may as well go to denny's as it's a good in between and my meal was PERFECT. I got the santa fe skillet and it was indeed sizzlin as it was brought out to me in a very timely fashion. The wait staff was very attentive and kind and I chatted briefly with the cook who was wonderful as well. Sorry y'all had to deal with that other table who just could not be pleased tonight - I cannot see why seeing as my boyfriend and I were nothing short of delighted by our food. Thank you denny's! ***PSA for today*** I placed an order in the Denny's app for curbside pickup, I arrived on time and according to the instructions pulled in a designated spot and called and they'll bring it out to you. Well guess what, designated spots do not exist at the Mattoon Denny's! ‍ So I go inside, the woman behind the counter tells me it's going to be a while because the manager had to run to the grocery store to buy "cooking butter'. Wife ordered T bone and shrimp. Steak medium rare. Steak was over cooked and tougher than Waffle House. ( I like WH) They did take 15% off the bill and then we ordered lava cake. This place seems to be going downhill fast, every once in awhile you will have a day that the food is spot on. Tonight however was not that night. There were probably 3 tables on total filled when I was in there with my family. I usually get the double cheeseburger with seasoned fries and it is amazing. When it came out after 30-40 mins it wasn't dressed with anything except cheese. The bun was burnt, and when I asked for the topping to put on my burger I the waitress brought out the wrong items besides pickles. The fries were burnt and cold, and when I asked for a refill the waitress got busy talking with others that she forgot to grab me a drink so we had to grab someone else. It's sad. Only 3 tables full of people and they have a very hard time getting food out and making it correctly, not to mention taking care of the customers. Would be 0 stars if I could. read more

Food was terrible. How can you mess up breakfast? Overcooked, dried out sausage. The server did bring me 2 more to replace the dried-up ones. When I got the new sausage they were cold. I went yesterday with two other people. The food was good and came out quickly but the service was not great. About 10 minutes after we finished our food, we realized that we hadn't seen our waiter for awhile. Went last night... to be honest I wasn't all that enthusiastic, my daughter said"Dad it's really good"... she's fourteen and likes Starbucks and cheese cake factory:)... Ok... they ordered breakfast and I ordered my typical ( Burger and fries)((yum)) EVERYONE was polite and our server/wait staff was very responsive! Kudos... The food was cold and we had to wait 10 minutes just to get silverware. My omelette was made wrong and I was brought white toast three times when I ordered sourdough. The manager came over and I asked her if my toast was white toast and she said yes. I said I ordered sourdough and she said "Oh well they look similar" which they do not. This place has awful service. Every time I go whenever it's around 9:00pm the waitress asks us our drink orders then sits at the counter on her phone for the next twenty minutes. One time after about forty minutes I just got up and left because of how ridiculous it was. Tonight, my friend had to approach her at the counter and tell her our order because as usual thirty minutes later she was just sitting on her phone. Trashy and annoying. She even went so far as to have someone else wait on us who was currently waiting on other tables while she sat at the counter. If that's not the definition of lazy I don't know what is. Did surprisingly well for a brand new store. They are working HARD to get the bugs out. Still struggling a little making sure everyone knows what they're doing and we had to ask for refills on our drinks, but that's nothing for someplace new to overcome. Denny's has gone so far downhill the past few years. My husband and I used to go to the one in Tuscola quite often, but it seemed they kept taking our favorites off of the menu, and downsizing portions. Recently this new one opened in Mattoon, and we live in Charleston, so we thought, this is convenient, let's go try their new pancakes. I used to really enjoy their breakfasts, but this was horrible! They ruined their pancakes, they used to be soooo good, now it's like eating foam. I had the lumberjack slam, and everything was awful except for the hash browns, which were quite good. The portions were tiny. The service was lackluster, we got the feeling the waitress was making fun of us. My husband is on the road a lot and says every Denny's he's gone to is the same--just gone downhill. I used to like a dish called chicken queso, I believe it was called. They discontinued it. They downsized the country fried steak. They got rid of their meat loaf. The breakfasts aren't good anymore. Why they think these new pancakes are an improvement is beyond me. Seems like every restaurant (not just Denny's) is messing with their menus and instead of being an improvement, all they do is make things worse. We will not be going to Denny's again. read more
