We stopped here while on a trip to Chicago and we were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. Very tasty. Right from when we walked in there was an employee checking in with us to help order. Our food was hot, fresh and fast. The bathrooms were clean (which is so important and most fast food places are gross). We will return here again! read more

The restaurant was a super clean inside and staff is so friendly! We were greeted with a smile and helped with our order, food came out fast and hot and our order was all correct! Super clean, super friendly, super GOOD! Same food in a spic and span restaurant now! (Covid improved this eatery.) The kiosk can be a little intimidating so I recommend the app. It is SO EASY and there are rewards! If you are eating in, don't order a large drink as the only cups available are medium. My daughter and I stepped in for what was a great experience on our daddy/daughter road trip. We each had a $4 burger meal with fries and a drink, and I've got to tell you, there's nothing better than a fresh burger, hot fries, and the smile of a teenager enjoying it with a milkshake! The burgers were delicious, the service was more than what we expected, and the price could not be beat. Stopped in for lunch. The menu shows the 4 for 4 deal in a single, double or triple steak burger. Ordered a triple and was told it's no longer offered. Also can't get the single! Can only get a double, even though the menu still shows all the deals! The foods not the greatest to begin with and now they change the availability of items in the deals whenever they want. We were originally going to order food from the website for takeout, but it isn't possible to use gift cards at checkout online. Since we couldn't do that, we decided to get it from the drive thru and take it back to our room at Comfort Suites. We ordered at the drive thru and pulled up to the window. After paying, we got the majority of our meal. We then realized that we were missing a shake, even though we ordered it and it was present on the receipt. We got our shake and then we got the rest of our meal. Before we left the drive thru, we realized we were short a medium fry (like with the shake, we ordered it and it was present on the receipt). We were able to get our medium fry and then we drove back to our hotel so we can enjoy some Steak 'N Shake. In terms of food, everything I got was what you would expect from Steak 'N Shake: delicious. read more

I really miss Steak n Shake. It's back home closed due to franchisees issues. The food at this one was spot on. The burgers were cooked right, hot fries, and yummy shakes. Only though part was waiting almost 10 minutes for a server to come over. Press was no where to be seen. Thankfully Pam came to the rescue. She proudly apologized, and took our order. After ordering on the kiosks, we figured that our simple orders would be out soon. Boy were we wrong. After standing around looking for a table (since you no longer get seated by an employee) we waited over half an hour for our food. To-Go orders are clearly prioritized over dine-in, even if your order was exactly the same. The tables aren't always cleared between uses and seem to have something broken with each of them. Awful. We stopped in around 4:30. Not busy. Have to place your order at a kiosk. The staff are working hard. The place was clean. Food was all in to go or plastic or styrofoam. No silverware, no glass of water?! Not impressed. What in the world is the reason for the top bun of our hamburgers to be covered in a thick blob of butter? It was cold! I think all our food was cold. We will not be back. Great staff though. Sorry. read more

I've been here many times, and usually the service is outstanding: quick, efficient and the food on point. 7/10/17 we got here about 12:20, weren't seated until 12:30, another 6-8 min. before our order was taken. I set a timer: 30 min. later we finally got 2 burgers. Mine was so badly stacked I ended up eating with a knife and fork. I hope they get better soon! Update: no improvement. I can't give any more than 3 stars for this steak and shake. I'm sorry y'all. everyone that works here is always wonderful and attentive but the last time I was here I ordered the frisco burger. I first received the frisco melt which is a pretty easy fix so I wasn't worried. However then when I received my frisco burger is came without frisco sauce. I ended up just having a well made cheeseburger which was hot and fresh and good but still not what I ordered because at that point i just wanted to eat with my boyfriend and not wait again for another fix. every other time I have been here the service has been so unbearably slow that once I had to leave without recovering my food. Unfortunately I think it's a management issue more than anything because the employees are all very sweet and efficient. I think they'll only see me when I have gift cards for now, sorry steak and shake. read more

I can't fault Steak 'n Shake because their food and shakes has always been consistently Steak 'n Shake - good greasy grub - but we will always remember the service from this location. And not in a good way. After an EIU football game, my family and I pulled up in the drive thru and ordered 5 small shakes. We were tired and wanted something for the 3 hour ride back. At the end of our order, we were told, "you know - that's going to take awhile" in a very sarcastic tone - not in a "we just want you to know it might take a while" sort of way. I eat at this Steak n' Shake all the time. The food is fine, though it seems anyone ordering through the drive-thru is taking a big chance. They almost never get an order right if you go through there. The staff are usually very friendly, but my main complaint is the actual service. So many times I've been seated, served my food, and then left behind. The waiter/waitress can be seen all around the restaurant, but never anywhere near my table. They abandon us, and I've even had our server clock out a few minutes after they serve our food! Literally put on a coat and leave. While it can be annoying for someone to stop by every other minute to see how we're doing, it's far better than the lack of service alternative. read more

If I could give it to 0 Stars I would. We were the only group in there it took 45 minutes to get three shakes and another hour and a half to get our food. When other people showed up they got their food first while we still waited. When we tried asking what was going on, no one would answer and they would just push us onto the next. This has been the worst service I have ever had here. First the waitress tells me they have no more biscuits for breakfast 20minutes before they stop and didn't want to make anymore. Had to ask for manager and that was changed. Now that food comes they mess up m6 milkshake when order for no whip cream on it. Go to taste it and all they did was mix the whipped cream in it. What can anybody really say about this place other than they have the best double cheese Steakburgers around. The steak burgers are truly one-of-a-kind with the way they are made. I love how it all just melts together and is absolutely delicious. I love their shoestring french fries, too. I have only come across one other place that I would say was comparable to their french fries and taste and texture. Their unsweetened iced tea is great and their milkshakes are fantastic. I have been eating a different ones located in Decatur and the surrounding small areas of Decatur since I was too young to remember. I really miss it when I am away from central Illinois. My only real problem is that in the constant changing of staff, you never know if the quality of food is going to be up to par that night. I am really disappointed that they have removed the children's chili Mac from the menu because even though I want a double cheeseburger, occasionally I like to add that on the side just to have a small amount of it. This is just a wonderful place to eat it when you want a cheese steak burger and fries with a delicious chocolate milkshake. No they're not a top-of-the-line expensive restaurant, but for what it is that they put out they definitely deserve five stars. read more

I used to enjoy coming to Steak and Shake, but the last two times have been very poor. The service was terrible this summer and took forever to get two hamburgers and two fries. The waitress was indifferent. Today we went to Steak and Shake, and although service was good, the baked beans were nothing more then an open can of Campbell's Pork and Beans. No flavor at all. They added nothing to the beans. We used to get the beans all the time and they were very flavorful. We did not eat the beans. They had no A1 steak sauce so I had to use packets, which is not a big deal, but they were low on ketchup too. The restaurant was fairly empty, and the employees were very loud. Laughing, dropping pots and pans, just making a bunch of noise. This made for a very unpleasant dining experience. I mentioned the drab baked beans to the cashier, and he just laughed and made fun of it. We will not be going back. read more

I have been a fan of these since I lived in Austin. I got the Veggie melt with frisco sauce which was yummy. However, the salt vinegar fries were just ok, they should have been better tossed in the seasonings. I really liked my chocolate strawberry shake. For about $10 person, it isn't a bad fast food stop. read more
