Brad said it was 20 years old and he didn't know if he could fix it so he could put in a new one of a brand unfamiliar to me. I asked if they were good and he said he has hundreds of them installed and they are good. He quoted us $1500 for the unit and $300 installation. Our softener is 10 years old and he did nothing to troubleshoot it. Even though he was gruff I decided to agree. They required a check for $1500 to order the unit which I wrote them. They said it would take 10 days to get and they would call us. I was uncomfortable with the quick look and unwillingness to even consider trying to fix mine afterward. Thought about it for a couple of days then called Kim back and said I was uncomfortable and asked if they couldn't troubleshoot the old unit and she said that my unit was now 25 years old and they couldn't get parts for it. She said I could go online and try to find parts and fix it myself or she would "write me a check right now and refund my money". I said let me think about it. called her back in a couple of hours and asked for the refund. She said she would put the check in the mail that day. She never mentioned the $100 restocking fee that was not on the refund check. when I asked why she never mentioned the restocking fee she said "Well, I could send you the $100 back and then send you a bill for a $150 service call. The guys were able to get these issues resolved and completed the work in a very timely manner. The plumbers were very respectful and kept us informed in with everything that was needed. I was given an original quote for the work prior to all the uncovered issues needing to be resolved, which caused a requote for work which they were upfront about. They quoted high not knowing if they were going to have to rent equipment. After the work was completed, I was told they would requote again as the quote wasn't going to be nearly as high. I paid them in full the original quote prior to any work. I then waited for the final quote after work was done. I waited almost a month post work for the requote, keep in mind all communication was by email. I finally received the by mail after almost a month with a 1% late fee, not much considering the 5k bill that I ended up with, which already 3k had been paid immediately. I called them the day the bill came in the mail and one of the guys answered. I talked with him and told him that I had been waiting for this for a while now to take care of it. He understood my frustration with the late fee and assured me that it would be taken off which was very nice. I want to be clear that I had no issues with service provided by the plumbers, diggers, or survey people. My issue really lies with the billing. When I called to pay, I was told that they had emailed me the new quote. I informed her that I hadn't received an email from them since May 6th. I was dismissed and told "whatever". I don't feel that is the kind of attitude you should have with a costumer who not only paid 3k upfront which was the full original quote but has also been waiting to pay the requote since, which I paid in full today.
