This is a review for all the parents who's kids go to SUNY Stony Brook. Dr Koeppel is right across the campus. I've lived in the area for almost 30 years. My dentist was an Air Force Colonel who recently retired. My wife said we need to pick a new dentist. I'll be polite, his replacement is a doowacker. My wife looks at our new plan and chooses a dentist in Middle Island?! While I'm getting coffee across from the campus, I see a new dentist office that opened? Bless my stars! I walk in and speak to the office manager. I tell her I have great dental plan, can I come to the Koeppel Dental Group? Middle Island is so far for me to drive and, wait a second! Is that fresh baked cookies I smell? The office manager is looking at my insurance and explains that the Koeppel Dental Group is a private dentist practice. If you need oral surgery or a crown replaced, the Koeppel Dental Group is ready to assist. But, I can make sure that we will clean your teeth and use my insurance. How awesome is that? Here's the dad review. Just say you live 100+ miles away from Stony Brook and your child is going to the college. If they need any type of dental work, I highly recommend the Koeppel Dental Group. The fact that they don't take my insurance is absurd. It's especially insulting because I had an emergency.

I've been a patient of Dr. Koeppel's since 2022. Have had a few filings, did Invisalign, and received care for an old broken crown. Dr. Koeppel's been one of my favorite dentists, not just because he's good at his job but because he explains things thoroughly, and is considerate to take the time for questions and discussing treatment options, pros and cons, and so forth. I've seen several of the hygienists at 365 as well and they're all lovely. The front desk staff are wonderful too--very easy to talk to, easy to schedule appointments with, to discuss insurance and payments with. Lastly, the Stony Brook office is immaculate and calm. It's much more enjoyable to visit than the typical kind of dental office that's in obvious need of renovation. I'm very happy to be a patient here. read more

The new office is Very pleasant with friendly staff. Dr Koeppel is one of a kind. He has the eye of an artist ... he brings that to the work he does. On top of that he is off the charts honest. You may think he is expensive but he does the work right the first time. My wife had a bridge done that should have lasted 10 years ... it is going on 30 years now with no problems. Everyone I send his way reports back the same thing... he cares and takes pride in his work and will not compromise your comfort or the service he provides . My two-year-old daughter met Dr. Koeppel 28 years ago when he came to her preschool and fell in love with him and therefore our entire family switched dentists and we have been patient of Dr. Koeppels now for 28 years it's been fabulous wonderful pain-free and everybody is a delight. On the recommendation of my Mother I visited Dr. Koeppel for the first time in 2015. With so many others I had enormous anxiety about visiting the dentist. From my very first visit I was immediately at ease. The welcome staff is the most genuinely caring staff I have ever met. Marie and Alex both met with me and made sure that we would address all of my needs. Cut to 4 years later, with advancing dental issues, I made the decision with Dr. Koeppel's guidance to undergo upper arch reconstruction (hybridge implants). As the date moved closer and paranoia set in I thought I wouldn't be able to go through with the surgery. The day of Dr. Koeppel and his colleague Dr. Gish walked me through the procedure to keep me calm, and 4 hours later I was leaving the office with the worst behind me. The worst was not bad at all and I do not regret the decision. If you have high anxiety about any dental work I highly suggest visiting Koeppel Dental Group. I found Dr Koppel because I was desperately in need of restorative dentistry. I had an old bridge system that was failing and I had been to other dentists in the area that had treated me badly, almost as if I had done the bad dentistry myself and "my" shoddy work was inconveniencing them. My teeth were in bad shape and I was very upset from the poor treatment I had received from previous dentists. Doctor Koppel and his Patient Coordinator/Office Manager Marie took me through the details of his restoration plan, explained it step by step, including the associated costs. I am not going to lie, the work that I needed was expensive and not covered by insurance. It would play out over the course of 1 - 1.5 years, which allowed the work to be done in phases, to allow for healing and for slow, steady progress. All in all, the work that I needed took over a year and a half to complete, but Dr. Koppel and his office of dental assistants and administrators shepherded me through the process, making fine adjustments and and informing me every step of the way. It took a lot of visits to get it perfect, but quality workmanship is very important to Dr. Koppel and it was worth the time spent to get it right. The environment of the office is friendly and caring and they go out of their way to put you at ease. I would highly recommend the services of Dr. Koppel's office. read more

I suffer from Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI). AI is a disorder of tooth development. This condition causes teeth to be unusually small, discolored, pitted or grooved, and prone to rapid wear and breakage. Unfortunately, the medical description does not begin to explain the pain and discomfort the condition can cause and how difficult it is to live with. The primary problem those like me, with AI, have is that we have little to no enamel on our teeth. Most of you have experienced the pain of a cavity at some time in your life. Well, a cavity is just a small hole in your enamel which exposes the underlying nerves. Imagine having no enamel on any of your teeth and living for years with all of those nerves exposed to the environment! As you can imagine, this will affect your nutrition, state of mind, confidence, general health and how you could speak. My nickname on the Football Team is "Wobs" because I could only mumble my last name Wallace the first time I had to introduce myself. The description of the teeth being small and discolored does not begin to describe the appearance my teeth had after 16 years of use. They were worn down to the point of looking like broken pencil points. They were the size of baby teeth, and were yellow/brown in color. My jaw was not as defined and I felt like my mouth was caving in. Even though I am now 6 feet tall and a 260 pound football player, I have been bullied and picked on because of the appearance of my teeth. Even in elementary school I was accused of being a smoker! zombie! vampire! I was accused of not brushing my teeth, being dirty and contagious. I even had a girl tell me she wanted to throw up when she looked at me. None of the other Dentists my parents brought me to were able to help me. During the Fall of my Freshman year, my Dad was very frustrated with my dental care and started a search for a Dentist that could do cosmetic dentistry and would be willing to help me with my condition. After a brief internet search he kept coming up with recommendations for one man, Dr. Ira Koeppel. Dr. Koeppel agreed to see me that night! He was nice to me and made me feel comfortable right away, and had empathy for everything I had been through. Dr. Koeppel had my Dad and I come back that weekend. He and his staff took x-rays, pictures, and molds of my teeth. He listened to my life story and how my teeth were affecting every part of my life. He promised right there and then that he was going to help me to overcome this disease and to be able to enjoy all of the things I have been missing. That day started a fight with my Dad's health insurance company that lasted a year and a half. Dr. Koeppel's staff; Marie, Ginette, Alex and the rest of the women worked tirelessly to convince them that this birth defect was a health issue that needed to be fixed. Eventually, because of their perseverance the insurance company finally gave in and agreed this past March that work could begin! Dr. Koeppel, with the help of Dr.Alan Berman, my periodontist then started with me from scratch preparing to make me look like a Million Bucks! He promised me that I would look like a Rock Star when he was done and made me feel like I was going to be his only patient until I looked as good as God intended. Marie made a schedule of 9 appointments for me spanning from May until August and Dr. Koeppel got to work. During the last few weeks, I have grown more confident and am smiling more. I feel like my jaw is more defined and that I am making a more positive appearance. I can eat foods that I could never enjoy before like; hard pretzels, steak, ice cream, cold drinks. One of my teammates from the Football Team actually said,"Hey Wobs, show me your Million Dollar Smile!" The nickname has become a term of affection over the past two years, but the request was proof to me that Dr. Koeppel had kept his promise and worked all of his magic to help me get to this great place in my life. As a 20 plus year military veteran I have struggled through years of sleep apnea. I tried CPAP but could not tolerate being restricted to sleeping on my back and not being able to move my head without being awakened. The CPAP machine was also a daily and nightly time consuming maintenance project. There is also a whole warm-up routine your supposed to do for 10-15 minutes before laying down to sleep... who has time for this? I was eventually went to St. Charles hospital Sleep Disorders center and saw Dr. Amin. After a consult he referred me to Dr. Koeppel to learn about the Dental Appliances he provides. This has been a life and health changing event! You simply put the dental appliance into your mouth just before going to bed and go to sleep that's it.... The very 1st night I slept like a baby and woke up the next morning amazingly refreshed as if I hadn't slept in years... After having sleep apnea for so long you forget what it's like to actually get a night's sleep and wake up feeling ready to go... I no longer snore, I am no longer tired throughout the day and I have even decreased my caffeine intake during the day from 6 Bottles of diet soda per day down to one and I don't even finish it anymore. This was an added benefit that I achieved without intention as a result of this dental appliance. The appliance maintenance is easy and quick too. Dr. Koeppel is a honest, gentle, and compassionate dentist. He is the best dentist I ever went to. My porcelain crowns look so natural, that are invisible, you can't even tell that they are there. The ultra teeth whitening method he uses got my teeth so pearly white that I get compliments on my smile. What was nice about the whole experience is that everyone is so nice there and it is a place I look forward to visiting. He is a cosmetic dentist that will give you his honest opinion. As soon as you walk in you're personally greeted by either the front desk or the patient coordinator. It's like cheers in this place. Everybody knows your name. From the first appointment they made my daughter feel like she was family. I felt very comfortable with Marie Marsh she is a very easy person to speak to about the procedure that was going to take place.
