I normally don't leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to warn others about my experience at Dentist of Midtown. During my visit, I was told I needed an expensive procedure that just didn't seem right to me. Something felt off, so I got a second opinion from another trusted dentist -- and sure enough, I was told the procedure wasn't necessary at all. It's incredibly frustrating to feel like a place is more focused on upselling treatments than actually providing honest dental care. I left feeling like I was being scammed. I had a really good experience with Dr. Bell. I went in as a new patient for X-rays and to get a couple cavities fixed and everything went smoothly. She was thorough, explained things clearly, and never made me feel rushed or pressured. The staff was friendly and easy to work with and the appointment ran on time. I needed a new crown and went back to this place. I found out that Dr. Sweeney was gone, and I was back with Dr. Garcia, who is a pleasure to work with. Everything went well, and within the space of 2 weeks, I had my new crown seated. I would also like to thank Maria, who was assisting Dr. Garcia. She is very knowledgeable about dentistry, as she was a dentist in her own country. I felt very comfortable and at ease with her because she had a very pleasant and friendly bedside manner. I'm glad that she is now working there. The front staff is very welcoming and helpful. I like how organized everyone is. Parking is very convenient and free in the back. My first appointment was great but unfortunately my second appointment never happened. I showed up and they told me my appointment was cancelled because I didn't return their call to confirm. They made it sound like it was my fault (no apology) and that they stated in the voicemail they would cancel if I didn't call them back to confirm. They said they would try to squeeze me in since I was there so I waited for an hour in the lobby only to listen to multiple customers complain to them about an issue they had with them. The employees at the front desk don't care. No concern off their backs on any complaints. I also heard them tell someone the same thing they told me about not confirming their appointment. I looked through my voicemails after I left after sitting there for an hour and had to leave and there is NO mention in the voicemail that they would cancel my appointment. It's a shame because I had a great first experience but I can't support a company that treats their customers like this or has a business practice of canceling appointments because of a no call back. Would give 0 stars if I could. I'm not one to write a review, let alone a bad review. I moved from PA to Miami and was looking for a new dentist in the area. The point of this review is to save anyone new from going here. Believe the bad reviews. I went in to establish as a new patient and get a cleaning done. I was there for 2 hours and received X-rays and panel done of my teeth. I needed 2 cavities fixed which is fine I have dental insurance. I was told they were 2 large cavities and one was going to lead to a root canal if not fixed and I was going to need a tooth reconstruction. They later came back quoting me $660 to fix 2 cavities. I asked if this was ran through my insurance and they said "yes and it's actually one of the better insurances we've seen." I was skeptically and never in my life paid that much to fix a cavity or pay that much at a dentist period. I decided to leave and reschedule for another day and go talk to some people for advice. I never even received a cleaning in the 2 hours I was there. The following day I contacted my dental insurance to see what was going on. They told me with my coverage the maximum amount should be $75 and that they never even received a Pre Determination Form from my visit, meaning they never submitted anything to my insurance. I decided to go elsewhere and get a second opinion. I did have 2 cavities which were fixed. The cavities were never going to lead to a root canal as it was not that deep and they don't know why a tooth reconstruction was even mentioned. My insurance COVERED EVERYTHING. The 2 cavities to fix were FREE. I left the office paying a $10 copay fee for the visit. DO NOT GO HERE, THEY ARE COMMITTING INSURANCE FRAUD. read more

I came from out of town just needing a cleaning and got a quote for 800 out of pocket 4000 if I didn't have insurance. In this quote they added 95 dollars for oral hygiene instructions, essentially telling me how to brush and floss. Went for a second opinion, my new Miami dentist told me i just needed a cleaning. I was in search for a new dentist closer to me instead of where I use to live ages ago just because they're so good. I came in for a cleaning in which my appointment was at 1pm. I didn't get attended till about 2:45pm and didn't get my cleaning started till 3pm. This made me have to cancel/miss another appointment I had scheduled for 3:30pm later that day. They have a parking lot in the back that's free if you can find a spot, if not there is plenty of street parking out front but you'll have to pay. They have temperature checks upon entry and a covid questionnaire which was good to see. I believe there's a fitness class next door so you'll literally hear everything while waiting to be attended. When I left late from this cleaning I was hoping when I checked my teeth out good they would be superb and I felt as if it was done so fast, and can't believe they didn't do the buff ending, can't name it but just don't think it was worth it. I guess I'm gonna have to drive back to west miami to get quality because sometimes the city just doesn't offer it or unless you know someone/them. My mom went for a deep cleaning and has very sensitive gums. Rosa the dental hygienist was excellent with my mom. Nothing hurt or even when she put the anesthesia on her. Mom got out raving about the positive experience. What she also liked was that they explained to her everything in depth and even asked her what type of tooth paste she used based on the health of her teeth. 4/27/23 Once again, was told on here by the owner to give the office a call and still no answers from anyone, it seems like they're always closed since no one ever answers the phone. I took the time to actually give Invisalign a call and was told there is nothing wrong on their end and don't understand why the office hasn't informed me that they have my trays. So not only are they lying to me about not knowing where my trays are, but they actually have them in the office. Awful awful patient care. 4/20/23 I really don't enjoy writing this review, but at this point it is ridiculous. I am a current patient and have experienced bad patient care service over and over. I've tried calling over 5 times and have spoken with multiple people within the last couple of months about an issue I'm having with my Invisalign trays not coming into their office on the days of my appt, and I say days because there have been multiple appts scheduled that they have cancelled on me the day of. Ive show up to my appt and/or call myself beforehand, and staff having no clue where/why my trays aren't in.. for months now. The answer I keep getting is "we will figure out what's going on and give you a call back", with none of my calls being returned. I have been trying to find a dentist in Miami and unfortunately this is not it. I have been going to the same dentist for ever and this dentist wanted to upcharge me for things I didn't need. I did not need a deep cleaning of my gums I just needed a regular cleaning like my dentist back home always did. When it came to actually cleaning my teeth I felt like I got a better clean when I personally brushed my teeth. They told me I had to go see another specialty gum doctor and booked me for the date he wasn't even going to be there on. My husband even tried this place and ended up waiting 3 hours for his scheduled appointment and told him the same thing about his gums. We feel that they are adding on things for money we don't actually need. We will be finding another dentist who clean our teeth better. read more

Dr. T made me feel comfortable with no pain ( I hate needles), however after the first two I didn't feel anything. My procedure was fast and was informed of every detail of the process. I was pleased with the first visit, the dentist was very nice. However, on my second visit, which was a week later on a Saturday, they denied me service because I was more than 5 minutes late. There was absolutely no one in the waiting room and it seemed relatively quite. They told me that the reason they couldn't see me was because it was the weekend. It seemed like they didn't care about me or my dental needs. I requested my records and went to a different dentist, where I have had a much better experience at a lower cost. Office Manager Vanessa is very condescending and does not have empathy and or compassion for the patients. After Oral surgery there was a mix up with prescription orders to the pharmacy I the patient while in pain negotiated a solution between the pharmacy and the office she made me wait an additional 15-20 to have a staff member complete the task of ensuring I receive my pain medication. There attitude are horrible. Most of the other staff were pleasant. But the attitude and not caring and the way this Vanessa was dismissive to the a patients pain especially a patient who had just spent almost 2000 cash along with insurance coverage. I am a patient who can advocate for myself and I felt devalued. I can only imagine what a patient who does not have the ability to advocate for themselves would feel. read more

Finding a dentist in a new town is tough! So we decided on a few categories for this search, as we are new to Miami. 1. Walking distance! 2. Uses up to date technology 3. Super friendly 4. Makes you the center, and listens to your needs. This dentist is close to the neighborhood shops, walking distance to the residential places, and easy to get to. If you do drive, they have parking in the rear! Check! Was really surprised on some of new technology used here. For me, I needed work that used to need the icky molding materials, but not here! Ultrasound wands are used to map out the layout, and create a 3D digital impression that is much more accurate, and less icky! Also they have technology that gets you a crown when you need it on the same visit! That's just amazing, no need for a temp crown for days or weeks! Check! Staff here are just super nice! You could almost be on one of those Island reality shows! From initial check in, getting your deets, questionnaire all digital, and they really listen. When I said I wanted to be numb, no questions asked! I really have felt the trust in this team from day one. Dr Tolmie looked after me, and is super attentive, and friendly, talking through all the procedures, options etc, and making sure the end result was great for me! Check! It's important for me to feel listened to, and be part of the process, not just a patient, and they do this without any hesitation, and with care. Check! Poor unprofessional establishment. I'm not angry about what they did to me I'm Just upset and honest so NOONE goes through what I'm going thru. After making promises and appointments to get me a specialist and Endocronologist I go with the flow and committed to go in and get checked I pay the fee to get checked they tell me I need a root canal which I did. Same day when finished I come out the root canal was not done properly even the dentist or whatever she was said she couldn't have done more because she doesn't have the right tool that's it's too small of a canal for her instrument to go thru. I'm like that doesn't sound too good what do you mean as I'm in severe pain after being promised I'd be fine with a root canal and the pain-will go away that it takes a little time I waited a week two weeks it's not going away I have the same pain or worse they got worried and frightened that they screwed up and they offer my money back but with somewhat of a challenge I got my money back but that's not the point I don't need the money I need to get properly fixed. So now here I am with pain in my tooth having to redo a root canal which will cost me more time and money and they drill thru my crown which they said I could use and I will have to get a new one after which they didn't mention. All this is a very shady to me I'm not the only one I bet the reviews above me are likely friends and family trying to get a five star review I have nothing to gain or lose. My wisdom tooth started hurting a couple days ago and I called early in pain, the staff was very empathetic towards my situation. They were able to fit me in immediately. I arrived and had a less than 10 minute wait after filling out all paperwork. Tanya was a life saver for getting me in so quickly! I was delighted to be greeted by my doctor prior to any X-rays which I thought was extremely helpful. Dr. Weatherly was so sweet and understanding, I have never felt more comfortable in a dentist office before until today. All in all the exam was $59 without insurance (which in miami is a god sent), and the quote for an extraction is a reasonable amount for the pain I'm currently in, the wonderful front desk staff was able to get me an appointment in two days for the pain to go away! To top it all off they received a cancellation and were nice enough to call back so I could have an early morning appointment! 10/10 would recommend and will come back here again and again. read more

I went there in January 2021 for my first visit, as I entered I asked the recepionist for a mask and she said she did not have any. It is hard to believe that a dental office would not have a mask. I had to call my insurance to change my dentist, I asked her for the dental group number to give it to my insurance, she said it is not needed. But when I got someone on phone they asked for it. When I asked her to give it to me again, she made it look like It was a hassle to ask her again. And when I asked her to write down for me, she made it seem like a bigger hassle. I had a bad experience. AVOID if you can. I called last week scheduled an appointment and arrived on time. Parking to OVER CROWDED and when I walked in, it was one computer glitch after another. I tried to grin and bare it, and work through the bureaucracy. after messing around with this for over 1 hour, the assistant told me I was next. then the STRAW that broke the camel's back happened. as I walk walking into the examination room another assistant said that I was there on an emergency and I had to wait. The dude started the whole process over again, and I said NO, I am not doing this again and I walked out. This guys are super computerized BUT everyone is entry level and inept. They implanted the dental posts incorrectly and left her without any teeth in her mouth for a year until I took her to a competent dentist who could fix what they messed up! SCAMMERS!!!! I called for a new patient appointment since I just moved to the area and told the lady on the phone I wanted a cleaning. She assured me the dentist would perform a consult and the hygienist would clean my teeth all in the same visit. I asked for the afternoon off of work for my appointment and when I arrived they take a bunch of x-rays, I see the dentist, and then they send in a "financial representative" to try to convince me to pay for a $400 night guard and to return to the office the following day for a $3000 molar extraction. I said I had no issues scheduling the procedure for dental extraction but wanted to make sure I received my cleaning as promised. I was then told that my appointment was solely for a consult with the dentist and the hygienist was "too busy" and I had to return another day for my cleaning. This is extremely shady, a waste of my time as now I would have to ask for another day off of work and I felt I was being cheated just so my insurance would be charged for two visits. Taking care of my oral health has not been at the top of my priority list lately. My friend spoke very highly of this dentist and his office staff so I figured I would give them a try. I am very glad that I did. The office staff is knowledable, professional, warm, and helpful. They take your temperature at check in and have you fill out a covid exposure questionaire (pretty standard like i have seen other businesses do as well). Everyone wesrs a mask. The facilities are brand new and sparkling clean. The bathrooms are clean and well stocked. The dentist is very kind, professional, and knowledgable. There is a playlist of music playing in the background with the latest hits, which is a nice touch to help you keep your mind off the fact you are about to have a stranger poking inside your mouth. There is FREE and AVAILABLE parking spots in the back, so less hussle having to worry about the meter running. In summary, they take very good care of you. If you are looking for a dentist, look no further, this place is great! read more

I would give Dr. Tolmie and his entire team 10 stars if I could!! I am a massive dentophobe and anxiety stricken at the mere thought of a simple cleaning. Giving ANY dentist 5 stars has never even crossed my mind. But after having had a major procedure done by Dr Tolmie I feel compelled to take the time to write this. He is the most friendly, knowledgable, professional, thoughtful, hard-working dentist ever, I am so thankful to have found him. He takes his time, makes you feel at ease and answers all questions with patience and empathy. The office is beautiful, well-set up and impeccably clean. They are even open on Saturdays. His entire staff is so warm, friendly and accommodating that after the first visit you think....ok this can't possibly be consistent...yet it only gets better. They helped me call my insurance company and ask the right questions, another time I had to pick up medication and they waited for me after closing because I was stuck in traffic; instead of the grumpiness I expected, I was met with smiles and understanding! The day after my procedure I'm sitting at work miserable from the soreness when I get a text from Dr Tolmie himself asking how I was doing and if I had any questions.... I literally almost fell off my chair :) I have several upcoming appointments to finish the work, and while I'm not looking forward to "it", I'm so serene and confident the Doctor and team will do all in their power to make it as comfortable as possible.
