Pretty cool climbing gym located slightly outside of downtown Denver in a somewhat unassuming location. I'm pretty new to bouldering but starting to get into it. It definitely felt much more like a real community than other more corporate-like businesses I have been to and the prices felt fair. One of my favorite parts of DBC was that there were a bunch of dogs. The bouldering setup itself seemed well laid out and had a decent amount of options for beginners to experts (the ranking there goes from E to M to H). As a beginner, there were 4-5 for me to do which kept me busy enough. The weights area is pretty bare but I'm assuming most people go there for the bouldering and not to lift weights. read more

Took us a while to find this spot! There's plenty of parking so that was good. Many courses from absolute beginner to hanging off the top of the ceiling like spidey! This gym is way less crowded than Movement, has amazing routes, helpful staff, sick music, and great basic equipment. I climbed here for about 2 years (2 nights a week) and always had a great time. The price is also better than most other climbing/bouldering gyms in Denver! Onto the reason I am leaving 3 stars instead of 5. I couldn't afford a membership for a couple months this year as I am a student without a job lol, so I froze my membership and paid $8 a month to avoid cancellation and re-activation fees in hopes I could come back. Apparently, at a certain point, DBC automatically unfreezes your account and charges the full amount without consent from the customer. This happened to me, and I could not afford it. I called and emailed to explain the situation and ask for a refund because I would not be using the gym and could not afford the fee for a month in my financial state at the time. I was told there was nothing that could be done and it's a no-exception policy. This really left a sucky bad no-good taste in my mouth as I had been a loyal climber at this "community-centered" local gym for YEARS, and they would not refund me for a single month because I accidentally allowed my account to be automatically unfrozen...after paying them money each month in hopes of coming back lol. That is such a massive bummer from a gym that is so seemingly understanding from a customer perspective. This place was so special to me, and this experience really changed how I viewed their business model and company overall sadly. read more

This is do DBC south. A group of my girlfriends and I traveled from out of state specifically for this gym and wow, immediately impressed. At first I wasn't sure if I was at the right place because it looked like a little warehouse but it turned out to be an intimate, well-put-together facility. The manager greated us and walked us through what we needed to know. I wish I remembered her name but I'm pretty sure she's not only one of the nicest, but coolest people on the planet. PLUS she has a dog that comes to work. Who doesn't love a dog with a job? The routes seemed a little easier than what I've seen before and the labeling is a little different. There's a decent amount of variety so you definitely won't get bored and the facility is super clean. What I loved most about it was it wasn't jam packed so you had a lot of freedom. This gym has the most community feel of any of the other gyms in Denver. Plus, the setting is always top notch - super consistent yet creative, and the styles vary gym by gym. I love that there are three locations in different parts of the metro area so you can switch it up depending on where you are. No matter what gym you go to, you'll find supportive climbers and awesome routesetting. Another plus is that they allow (actually, welcome) dogs - if you don't feel like climbing, there's always an ample amount of dogs you can play with instead, specifically at Central. They also host some great competitions where they'll donate to charities such as Heart and Soul, something I look forward to every year. The 24/7 membership pass is totally worth it - will you be climbing at 3 AM on a regular basis? Likely not. But, it's great for those with more flexible work schedules as they don't open until noon, so you can come in earlier in the mornings if you want, or a little after closing on weekends. Their guest pass policy is also very reasonable with a membership at one pass per month. I wouldn't say this gym is "fancy" like some of the more corporate gyms in the area, but there is always sold climbing and you feel more like family when you're here. This is a review of DBC as a whole, not any particular location. Let me begin by stating that I have been a loyal member of DBC for 4 years, and it all came to a screeching halt rapidly. As of 6/30, DBC closed their north location, and ownership tried to keep their members in the dark by not releasing any information until the very day of closing. I am frustrated both as a paying member, and as a friend of DBC employees who have been negatively affected by this transition. Additionally, when I inquired via email about cancelling the last month of my yearly membership and being reimbursed given the circumstances (only have access to 2/3 listed gyms, and intentionally being kept in the dark as a member), I received the response "our membership terms do not allow for an automatic cancellation if one of our locations becomes unavailable." Their level of communication is extremely poor, and, given the high number of bouldering gyms in the Denver metro area, you can do much better elsewhere. It saddens me to see my 4 years ruined so quickly, but I want to warn others of the way DBC has handled their recent closure, which is indicative of the way ownership runs the business and treats others in general. read more

Intimate, warm, and welcoming place to get some exercise and meet friendly like-minded people. Some work teammates and I didn't want to spend the night in a bar so we came here and it was worth the trek from the downtown area where we were staying. I loved the service and the people, as well as the different paths we could climb. The paths were marked by different colors and ran the gamut from easy to bloody difficult, and are reset frequently we were told so they never get boring or old. Facilities were clean and new. Highly recommend checking it out whether you're a local or tourist. read more

Favorite gym in the city, hands down. Incredible staff members and members of the gym, both very helpful and friendly overall. Group nights for special interest groups, dog friendly, and routes set for all experience levels. Central location has 4 large walls with a mix of slab and overhang and vert climbs, with some nice corner problems. Offer a fair price for 24/7 membership which includes a guest pass/month. As a climber who has frequented multiple climbing gyms in various states during the past 12+ years, I feel pretty strongly that DBC is the best climbing gym I have been to. In addition to creative, fun, and varied route-setting, this place fosters a a community that is second-to-none. It is evident that the staff, owners, and climbers here care deeply about providing a place for everyone to come together and enjoy the sport of climbing; this is something I feel is increasingly rare in today's climbing world. What's more, nearly every route here is set very well. The setters at DBC know how to bring interesting and artistic movement to even the biggest of holds and 'easiest' of climbs. They also know how to set difficult problems in a way that is unique and fun--not merely impossible. The route quality, community, and plentiful training resources (I.e., the South and Central locations both have a Moonboard, free-weights, etc.) all make this place THE place you should join as a member. read more

We're so glad we decided to go here, what a great time for just $16. I've been climbing for 5 years, and I've always been the biggest hater of bouldering. It just never made any sense to me: why only go up like 10 feet and then jump down and break your ankle? But DBC is the closest climbing gym to my house, and seeing as I need to train and finally get good at climbing after all these years, I sucked it up and got a 24/7 membership. Thus, with all of the cynicism of someone who hated bouldering, I can say: This place is fantastic! There are so so many routes up, even for those who can only climb the easiest. The most inclined walls still have beginner routes, which is amazing. How else am I supposed to learn? There's plenty of gym-type equipment and hang bars if you're into that stuff. And 24/7 access? Crazypants. I've never heard of that anywhere else, and it makes everything wonderful. I'm not going to show up at 3am, but I love showing up at 9pm-ish, climbing as people trickle out, and then finishing up in a quiet gym with a few other dedicated folks. Plus, after hours, you can co-opt the sound system into playing whatever tickles your fancy (hip-hop, obviously). The staff is super friendly, the routes are changed on a frequent basis, and the other boulderers are non-douchey. I'm loving it! read more

I've never touched a wall in my life and signed up for a 6 month membership and a training class to learn the fundamentals. TJ gave us a thorough tour of the place, taught us the fundamentals without overwhelming my brain and had us climb a few easy problems to get used to what it feels like to climb. It was very low pressure, everyone was very friendly and the facility allows for a lot of skill levels, including beginners. I like that its also dog friendly (as long as they stay off the mats)! A Place To Boulder In Denver! ($13 for a visit!) The Denver Bouldering Club is such a great place to let off some steam and just climb. There are many routes for anyone to try at any level. I am just getting back into climbing since moving to the area and I feel like this place is a haven to climbers of any skill level :) I came on a weekday so it was pretty busy, but I can see on the weekends having a hard time finding space to climb. I bet this place gets crowded, even though it is huge, and is a popular spot! The walls go to many degrees and really challenge climbers with their difficulty and they go REALLY HIGH! At times I was on a route and I was looking down thinking "wow. I am really high! I almost need a rope! *sweaty hands and shaky legs*" Even though the walls go really really really really high there is padding everywhere and you can even move pads for more safety :D This place is beautiful! I love it! Other perks of this place is that it is dog friendly. People bring their dogs inside and tie them up to the tables while climbing! There is also a gym here with weights and all that so you can work out in various ways! In the men's and I think the women's bathrooms there is a shower and locker room if you want to go somewhere fancy after your climbing sesh :D And FREE WIFI! I really enjoyed coming here for my first time! I do want to come back for more later. I don't know if I'm ready for a membership, but I will be back for sure! ;) read more

Tried out DBC today after moving to Denver last week and looking for a gym to join. Since I've only been there one day I don't have a full perspective on the gym, but having climbed at a bunch of different gyms I can compare some things. DBC isn't the fanciest facility, but they seem to do a great job of routinely re-setting problems and taking care of their gym. They have tons of problems of all levels (though more easy and medium than hard), and it's awesome that they reset a different wall every week. We were there on Sunday (reset day), and saw they also scrub down all the holds between settings which is great (my old gym didn't do that and it showed b/c the holds would wear down really fast). It's a more "bare bones" type of gym where you go to climb, and everything is well maintained. The biggest difference between here and other bouldering gyms is the style of problems. Most of the problems at DBC felt to me more like sections of top rope or lead climbs, vs. true boulder climbs. We tried out a lot of fun problems, and most seemed very fluid with a lot of technique, endurance and/or body positioning... vs. more "boulder-y" problems with dynamic, powerful moves, or tricky slab maneuvering. Tough to explain, but it seemed better suited towards training and building your strength/endurance/technique for longer TR or lead climbs... rather than purely bouldering with a lot of good projects. It was pretty empty on a Sunday afternoon (not surprising), so it's hard to really get a sense of the crowd, but everyone seemed friendly and low key. I also wasn't a huge fan of the floors - pretty stiff and hard especially from the higher finishes. The grading system is different (E/M/H with + and -), but it's easy enough to compare these to a typical V grading system. All in all, seems like a great gym -- just might not be the problem setting style for me. read more

Visited this place with high expectations for my first time bouldering in Denver. I went in with the hopes of "loving" the experience and potentially starting a new hobby, but I was somewhat disappointed. The receptionist guy was friendly but was only useful in checking me in and accepting my payment for the day pass. I think I was left disappointed because I was new to the sport and may have expected tips on proper climbing techniques and what to expect, yadi yada. I don't think that's too much to ask, considering I could've potentially become a regular member to the club. After about an hour of attempting to reach the top and messing around with different routes, I was starting to get the hang of it. The facility is nice - very clean, lots of space, and a variety of bouldering routes (for all levels). I would give this place a higher rating if I wasn't so disappointed with the guidance and service. If you're a skilled climber, then I think this post doesn't apply to you (since the facility is nice and you won't need much instruction). But if you're new, like me, and are expecting a bit more than just a quick greeting while checking in, then perhaps do some research beforehand or check out another facility. read more

I went here last week after going to just about every other gym in the area. This is a great place to get some bouldering in if you don't want to venture out to Boulder, CO. It was a cold Monday night and fairly crowded, but it didn't take long to get on the wall. The routes were interesting which is the most important thing about a bouldering gym to me. I was able to get some problems in with various angled walls. They had added some new walls not to long ago I hear and the mats under them were really stiff. It was a bit painful to fall very far onto them, but once they get more use and are broken in it will be great. There was a ton of chalk in the air and about 3 dogs (one kept whining) which were not exactly positives, but not horrible. Also their routes just had easy/med/hard which is a little different than the rec/int/adv/open you find at other gyms around here. I typically climb int at the other gyms with occasional adv routes. At DBC I was maxing out around the easy+ range and close to doing a few med/med- routes. read more

Excellent bouldering gym. The routes are changed frequently enough to keep it challenging and they have everything from super easy to impossible for almost everyone. The 24/7 member access is especially nice because after regular business hours you can plug your phone into the music set-up and climb to your own. There's all sorts of extra training equipment available as well. This place has everything you'll need to improve your skills and is also a comfortable place to lounge and chat. The gym itself is great -- the routes are really well set and constantly rotating so that even if you go regularly, you don't get bored. The people are really friendly and not pretentious like some gyms can be, and it's the definitely the best value for what you're getting out of the gym. I'm not a very good climber but I always have a great time here. There are lots and lots of routes for my skill level. They divide the climbing space into four sections and each week they change out one of the sections. That way, you always have new routes and new challenges to work on. The staff is helpful and friendly and the place is always clean, which can be a challenge when chalk is used everywhere. I'm moving from the Denver area to Boulder so I won't be continuing with my membership, but after going here for two years, I wanted to leave them a good review. read more

I took a class to learn the basics of bouldering and it was a fun experience! The instructors were friendly and provided very detailed and clear instructions on how to approach this free-style climbing technique. There are about four or five climbing walls with various degrees of difficulty and solid crash pads to ease any falls. The two-hour sesson was conducted in a very relaxed, no-pressure style and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a fun experience. I took this class last week and I want to get back in there and try out the various climbs. read more

I love this place. The last few times I had a hike planned with friends and the weather turned we headed here instead. It has never been too crowded even though I have only been on the weekend. Solid bouldering gym! Tons of routes, very well marked, friendly and helpful staff. People who climb here seem chill and nice. Their setting is on point and the music is very appropriate for the climbers. The space is well thought out. The climbers are predominantly male, but that is typical for most climbing gyms. The location is obscure, but again, this is to be expected with most climbing gyms. Staff is helpful and quite knowledgeable for the area. The training space could be a bit bigger, but it gets the job done. The wifi is strong and bathrooms are clean. read more
