I have to start out by complimenting Ashley who was so friendly, helpful and efficient. I give her 5 stars - personable, professional, genuine and patient. A fine example of the qualities anybody would want in a team member. That said, Fran gets "0" and should consider a new line of work or just something that is not customer/human facing. Maybe a perfect fit for a back office role doing audits at night, or something that involves no people. She uses condescending tones and pretty much matched the exact profile of a person working at DMV who makes these visits unnecessarily painful. The last visit was with an African American woman who had to be the worst state employee I've ever come in contact with. After waiting 90 mins, she found one signature on a title that was missing a date. Knowing this was sold out of state, it's literally impossible to physically go meet the seller to collect a date of signature. She knew that I was forced to enter the date on my own, but made me leave the office and come back to pull a number and wait for another 60+ mins. In the end, the date was placed onto the doc and completed at another more friendlier DMV, albeit after a 20 min drive and another 30 mins of waiting. Seems like an unnecessary amount of time spent by two state employees. Our tax dollars hard at work. Go to Central Park/Stapleton - they are always courteous and respectful - even the security team is helpful.

3698 W 44th Ave is the place to go in Denver for **in-person** DMV services. Arriving before 9am is the first choice, otherwise my experience has been that the lines are a lot shorter here anytime over other DMV locations around Denver. The manager is first rate and this definitely makes a difference. If you happen to have Stacey as your expert behind the glass, you will get excellent, efficient service

Tip: Make an appointment at least 2 months before your Drivers License expires! You will need to do your renewal in person to get a new photo (required for the new "Real ID"). Tip: Park on the West side of the Department of Revenue Building. That is where the DMV entrance is. I walked in just before my appointment time, gave the person at the check in counter my name, got a number and walked into the DMV to wait. There were only a handful of people waiting and plenty of seating. The building is pretty run down and if you are concerned about cleanliness, you may want to stand or BYO wipes for the plastic chairs. To my surprise, as soon as I walked in, my number was called along with the kiosk to report to. That was great. I didn't even have time to sit down. When you make your appointment online, there is a form with all kinds of information they want you to bring with you to confirm your identity and address (like a paystub, utility bill, etc.). It turns out, they don't actually need any of that if your DL hasn't expired yet and your address has not changed. They confirmed my information and sent me to get my photo taken. I only had to wait for one person ahead of me to get their photo taken. DMV photos are never flattering, but at least I got through it quickly. Unfortunately, at that point, they punch a hole in your ID and hand it back to you with a piece of paper saying your ID is not valid without the paper and that your new ID won't be mailed to you for ~30 days. I do not understand why they cannot print them onsite. So, this will be a PITA for the next month while I wait. However, within a couple of hours, my digital ID on the MyColorado App updated with the new expiration date. So, at least I can use that here in CO.

You should talk to your State legislators if you think they need more resources. The DMV has made a huge effort to upgrade to a modern computing platform. The system went live on February 16, 2026 and not only streamlines the workflow at DMV offices, it also offers the new myDMV portal which can be used to manage personal information, receive electronic notices, renew your driver's license, pre-register for a license/permit/ID, check status, renew registration, schedule appointments, and other routine services. There's also a new MVExpress service, 70 automated kiosks scattered around the State, generally at DMV offices or grocery stores. Most online transactions can also be performed at the kiosks. The hope is that many basic transactions will be done online or at a kiosk, freeing up the DMV staff to handle the more complex issues. I had a title transfer, so I went to the DMV office in person. The only DMV entrance at this location is the door off the parking lot in the rear of the building. Three people are allowed inside at one time to line up at the check-in desk. A friendly staffer quickly reviewed my issue and assigned me a number via a text to my cell phone. I was to leave the building once I was in the queue. You can return once you reach fifth place in the electronic line. There's a link in the initial text to a real-time app that shows your exact place in the queue. This works very well. You can leave and go about your business. Just return when you're approaching the end of the line. I arrived at 9:40 a.m. on a Thursday. It took me eight minutes to check-in. There were five people ahead of me and the line moved fairly quickly. The staffer thought it would be two hours until my number came up; it actually took three hours, but I was able to deal with my day while watching the countdown on the app. I returned to the office when I got to eighth on the queue, sat outside for a bit, then was allowed to go to the waiting room when I hit fifth. It took 30 minutes in all to be called to a window from eighth place and I spent 15 minutes with the staffer. Seating outside the building is very limited, two concrete benches on the front of the building facing Tremont Place. The staff suggests sitting in your car if you need to wait, but this can be uncomfortable on a warm day. Some additional, shaded seating would be a nice addition. There are a number of coffee shops and restaurants within the immediate area. Everything ran pretty smoothly. I think this system is about as effective as the DMV can be, given their personnel limitations. Two out of ten windows were operating when I made it to the waiting room, then a third opened after awhile. All of the staffers seemed friendly and willing to help. The crowd of customers was patient and polite. It is really helpful to see the queue and to know your exact status.

I feel like everything they do is so broken and inefficient. Will that ever change? I doubt it. A lot of people visiting this location were mad at the employees for various reasons but it wasn't their fault. If anything I felt that the employees here were doing all they can to help everyone. The URL they provide to check your place in line didn't work. The parking lot here is relatively small for how many people they service here but there is plenty of street parallel parking available in the area. Make sure to do your research and bring all the documentations that you need!
