My husband experienced a psychiatric emergency two days ago. While we were in the ER, once everyone calmed down and we were able to speak with a crisis counselor with The Aspen Hope Center, we were discharged to go home and figure out what facility my husband would be able to receive residential treatment at. Sandstone was two of the five covered facilities that we could go to that would be covered through our insurance and that was recommended to us by the team at The Aspen Hope Center. Upon calling to get more info, I learned that the only facility that Sandstone had that offered the program my husband needed had an age cap of 35 and he is 36. Normally I would have expected that to have been the end of the road and that I had another few hours of phone calls ahead of me, but the woman I spoke with sent my information over to Alyssa and she's the reason why I'm writing this review. Alyssa called me not long after I hung up with the admissions team at Sandstone, and she immediately made me feel at ease. After everything I had just been through I was obviously flustered and my brain was very scattered, I didn't even know where to begin as far as who to call, where to look for reviews, what reviews to believe, etc. She then provided me in and out of network options for my husband to go to and after a few days of phone calls/questions I think we've decided on the best possible option for my husband to get the best care he can get. I'm so grateful to the team at Sandstone for providing this type of service for patients that don't qualify for their programs, and even more grateful to Alyssa for her kind compassionate care and help. I was expecting this experience to be an absolute nightmare, and while none of it is easy Alyssa made it feel manageable and helped me figure out where I should start. :o)

I've edited a bit for length, but otherwise nothing has changed in my mind after a week's reflection. ** __________________________________ I cannot begin to express how disappointed I am with this organization. Our family member's insurance company denied payment for treatment here, yet their admissions counselor called me and said that "the leadership has decided we want him to get better, so we're admitting him to the program anyway." We were so relieved I was actually in tears at their kindness and commitment to helping a young person in crisis. How wrong I was. After attending three weeks of the program called PHP (I was told it would be two weeks, BTW), our first family therapy Zoom meeting wasn't therapy at all, and instead they decided to tell us that the insurance has denied the claim (which they knew before they accepted him) and our family member will have to transfer to another program. I am beyond livid. They knew even before he started the program that the insurance wouldn't pay, and yet they allowed our family member to start anyway. Now he has to start with a new program, a new doctor, and a new therapist. This is inexcusable and detrimental to the health of the young adult they once claimed to want to help. (Yes, I know they have to make money to stay in business, but it was their decision to accept him. We didn't twist their arm.) Families who are not familiar with outpatient mental health programs shouldn't be expected to know all the facets of these programs and how they're paid for or structured. Before our family member was admitted, I was given all the details of the program (two weeks of "PHP" five days a week from 12-5, then continue for another 8-10 weeks of three hours a day, three days a week. I understood this to be one complete program, not two, but as they were telling us in our call today, no, it's two separate parts, so everything's just peachy. No, it isn't. They're fortunate that our family member is far less upset about this than I am and believes the new program he'll have to start at another place next week will be helpful, but what I've learned from this is that you really can't count on anyone except yourself to get through something as difficult as depression, because even the professionals may let you down.

Yes, you have to have the correct insurance and yes you have to pay, but it is absolutely life changing. I have yet to meet anyone that hasn't been transformed and felt like the people at RH cared about them for life. If someone has said something negative, the chances are that they had financial difficulties (which happens and is awful) or they weren't open to the process, or they expected more than any program could give.

During intake, you're repeatedly asked the same question, which indicates that teams don't communicate and that their systems aren't integrated effectively. You're assigned a case manager, a therapist, and a PA -- but again, they never appeared to have connected before meeting with you. Conversations were brief, hurried, and felt like you were imposing on them. Tim, the care coordinator, demonstrated a complete lack of patience. When I selected another group for my IOP follow-up (not Curawest), he quickly shuffled us into another room to continue the conversation. He also led a detox group where he appeared unprepared, focused on his own story, and didn't connect it to us or what we were going through. He also checked his watch and answered text messages during the presentation. It was highly unprofessional and ineffective. I spoke to several other attendees who shared the same thoughts. My therapist was Courtney. I spoke with her briefly. She asked many of the same questions I'd already answered in questionnaires leading up to our meeting. They stress the importance of having a support team -- however, you're not allowed to contact them during your stay. I was able to call my mom once while I was there and had to leave a voicemail. Courtney told me my mom had called back, but Courtney never returned the call. There are many staff who care and try to help the best they can. However, it seems like Curawest's procedures and policies do not support their efforts, and they're afraid of getting fired. That's a disservice to the residents and to capable staff members.

The pt department is the only thing good about this place. 2nd day i was there drs wanting to…read morechange medication didn't have the insulin I use took me off of xarelto after getting blood clots going to hospital they put me on xarelto but when I went back to lowry snf switched it to more cheaper blood thinner when I was suppose to be on xarelto for 4 weeks 1 week at hospital had 3 weeks left and dr Cahill switched it to a cheaper one and lies about it said kaiser wanted the cheaper one even nurse lied to my wife on why they switched any how I was there for rehab had spinal cord surgery I was there 4 days and no pt played in bed 24 hrs had a cough with phylem my wife said I had pneumonia kept bugging me to tell dr so I did he called wife dr decided to send me to hospital where ct scan showed blood clots on both lungs 1 close to my heart so another 2 days I probly would of died and they all should no not to leave patient immobile 24 hrs one day let alone 4 went back to lowry snf now on blood thinner has to be taken 1 in morning and 12 hrs later think nurses gave me my meds when I was suppose to get them 10 o'clock at night push button for help to go to bathroom came an hour later so they had to clean the mess couple nurses knew what they were doing but the majority had no clue. Kaiser/ medicare pays for 21 days of pt so supposedly lowry discharged me when I was sent to hospital cause its 700.00 a day so when I went back there after my surgery I thought 21 days would start over but didn't find out that my 21 days ended july 6th and case worker came to my room a week after said I was approved for 7-10 days well another person came to my room on july 11th said my 21 days was up on july 6th a d my copay was 203.00 a day and I told her well brandy case worker had just told me I was approved for 7-10 days this person said yes you are approved but you have gone over 21 days so there's a copay plus for the 7- 10 days approved i told person brandy never told me anything about when 21 days was up or there's a copy for what I just got approved so when my wife found out on the 13th july she called brandy and asked her why she failed to tell me about 21 days was up and didn't tell why she didn't say got approved for more days but didn't tell me about copay brandy said we'll we can try to get it approved without copay wife told her she scamming patients by not telling when she knew and called her a lying bitch wife called me said she's comming to get me next day but discharge wasn't till the 14th wife said we were not paying for anymore days its going to be 1800.00 so I'm home and even though I liked the pt department I advise you DO NOT GO To This SNf care at lowry there's no pt on sat i guess and couple Sundays I didn't get ant pt the reason I was there to be able to walk get strength back but it felt like a nursing home so if when I get a bill for 9 days I need to get days I didn't get pt taken off so if you do go there and insurance only pays for x amount if days keep track and when they say you been approved for more days ask how much us going to cost me

There were so many balls dropped while my father was there it's unbelievable. No one communicates to each other, the charting is inaccurate or doesn't occur at all. We had to repeat information to almost every shift. Had to fill out forms more than once. If we hadn't been present throughout my father's stay, he would have been written off completely. The mismanagement of patient care and lack of attention to the most basic detail is stunning. The planning for care after discharge, never happened.... we were told that should have started the day he was admitted. This has resulted in a series of calls and lack of the care continuum. The staff are friendly, but the management of patient care is an utter failure.
