My girlfriend and I recently moved to Hollywood and try to shop locally wherever possible. We are coffee addicts and finding a good roaster was the first on our list. We sampled coffee from the handful of local roasters and Palm Coffee was not only the best in the area, upon first sip, it was the best we ever had. We now exclusively drink it, always the Plague Doctor Dark Roast. Also if we ever have guests, I make sure to brew a pot and I don't taint the jury by lavishing praise on it. My dad, a true coffee snob, immediately said how good our coffee was. Other coffee snob friends of mine were visiting from Vermont and I neglected to put in our order in time. Camilla at Palm made special arrangements for me to get a 12 oz bag just in time. These people are sweet, local, and their coffee is absolutely bananas good. Lol One Saturday after a horrible breakfast experience, we decided to do another drive by and noticed the doors open. So we parked and proceeded to go in. We were immediately greeted by Manny, the owner. He had just opened up and was getting ready to start his day. Felt kind of bad walking in but he was gracious enough to give us a tour of the shop and even explained the roasting process and what each machine did. As if the tour wasn't enough, he even offered to give us a private cupping session. It was so awesome! We learned the proper way to make coffee and had the opportunity to try some. Ended up tasting the Ethiopia and Colombia. The Ethiopia was nice, light, and had an interesting flavor. It was like tea and I enjoyed drinking it as is. The Colombia was also tasty but on the bolder side. Fun Fact: did you know... bitter tasting coffee can be caused by the water being too hot or by over steeping. Delicious coffee... The barista showed me the bag of Rwandan beans, and I chose the 16 oz. size. While I waited, I sat comfortably with my wife and daughter at one of the few tables. We were the only ones in the place until we left about 30 minutes later. The barista apologized for the wait, but I waived off the apology. Here's why - he ground the beans and made my drip coffee from scratch! The roast was good to the last drop.
