We almost didn't come here bc it felt like too much of a schlep from where we were staying downtown but it was definitely worth the trek. It's really not that far I'm being dramatic it's like max 13 min from the center by car. Anyways it is literally the cutest place inside. Dimly lit by table-side antique sconces and Christmas lights in the bar with wooden booths and chairs. Very eclectic. This felt like a special place the minute we set foot inside. The beer menu is something else you not only wouldn't find in a typical restaurant but even for a beer place. Very Belgian German vibes. I didn't even get to the best part yet believe it or not. They are very vegan and vegetarian friendly. So many things on their menu can be made vegetarian or vegan. Like things I've never seen before like TOFU SCHNITZEL. Holy shit. But then you think about it and are like why have I never seen this before? It can't be that hard? They also have a meat free version of the allegedly local favorite sauerkraut balls which was an absolute must. There were just so many things we wanted it was hard to choose. Other than the balls, I was very interested in the vegan sausage and the Reuben (on literal potato pancakes) that can be made vegetarian or vegan without the corned beef but ultimately could not pass on the tofu schnitzel which came with a starchy side (I went with the spätzle obviously) and a veggie side (I went with the kraut.. obviously) and GF the Reuben with a side of fries. To take home for later, the spätzle appetizer and the pretzel. We also ordered beers, needless to say. I tried a cider that was incredible. One of the best ciders I've ever had. Everything was incredible. The kraut balls, actually spicy kraut balls per their menu, were so good. I was bummed there were only 4. I feel like there should be at least 6. I'll pay more. The dipping sauces were really good too. One was a curry ketchup type thing and the other was a cheese that was fabulous. Tofu schnitzel was breaded to perfection with a very crispy exterior. They used a nice, thic slab of tofu. Given the schnitzelness of it they probably could have gotten away with something thinner. They had a mushroom gravy which was nice for the vegans. The kraut was typical kraut. The spätzle slapped. I love those little pasta dumpling dough pieces. What a nice texture. GF's fries were salted perfectly and crisp. The pretzel was softer and lighter than usual. The cheese spätzle was better than sex, earth shattering ecstasy. So yeah it was pretty good. read more

First visit. Walked in on a Wednesday night. Asked if we had a reservation which I found odd since the place was virtually empty. But, OK. Seated in bar area which was super cool. Real old-school bar vibe. Really liked it. Lots of wood paneling and vintage stuff on the wall. Great German beer selection and I had a draft I never had before. Really good. Ordered 'build your own Schnitzel'. Picked the veal, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. Had the veal topped with 'Oscar', crabmeat and asparagus. Delicious...veal was crispy and tender, sauerkraut had the right amount of bite and mashed potatoes were solid enough. Topped with paprika gravy. Food was very good. All in all a really good place. Food was great, service was fine, maybe a little cold and not particularly friendly, but good enough. I have never fully tried German cuisine in a good detailed way in order to be a fan of it so I went in without many expectations of what we were going to get but I got a very happy surprise from our visit to Der Braumeister. We decided to order their Classic Sauerkraut Balls as appetizer which were great with the two sauces they came with on the side, could have definitely had 10 of those, so tasty! As main dishes, we decided to get the Kassler Rippchen&Sausage plate and the build your own schnitzel plate. They both were delicious with a lot of great flavors that mixed perfectly and everything was perfectly cooked! I personally liked better the Kassler Rippchen&Sausage plate since it had a little bit of sweetness to it with the apple and the cranberry sauce that just made it amazing for me. Only disappoint was that they did not have sauerbraten (had sold out). Not their fault but I will know to call or order in advance as it's one of my favorites. We had the best time at Der Braumeister! The staff was friendly, the food was AMAZING and the bar was entertaining. I ordered the potato pancake Reuben and omg was it good. Especially for people who are gluten intolerant it's nice to have a sandwich that isn't filled with bread. (I don't know if the potato pancake is entirely gluten free but for someone who's intolerant it's definitely a must). We also had the fried sauerkraut and it was so yummy. I had a Moscow mule from the bar which was great and ordered the Cab Franc per the waiters suggestion which was awesome. We finished with a bit of apple streusel and omg was it good. The apple and cinnamon were perfect and the pastry was divine. The atmosphere was very unassuming but cozy and clean. There were nods to German ancestry throughout but well decorated. Came here for a recent group meal during the holidays, seated in a back room that ended up being private for this event. Servers were very attentive, pleasant and knowledgeable about the entire food and drink menus. We ordered a round of beers, settled on some appetizers to share around the table (along with some salads) and then we placed our meal choices. The appetizer course came out first...sauerkraut balls were tangy, dipped in a hearty German mustard, but their cheese sauce (also for dipping) was rather "mealy" in its mouth feel and tasted processed. The order of pierogies came with two large, deep fried pierogies served with grilled onions and apple sauce...the potato filling was creamy and the fried exterior made for an interesting bite. The German pretzel was dense, perfectly chewy and was really great dipped in the German mustard on the table. Their cucumber salad with a creamy dill sauce came piled atop green leafy lettuce and chopped red onions. Overall this dish lacked flavor, wish it had more of a dill kick to it. My friend and I split two main dishes. The St. Vincent schnitzel was like a German version of veal parmesan, but lacked overall flavor combo. The red sauce could have been applied more liberally, to give the arrangement more oomph. The chicken paprikash had the same deal, decent but lacked a depth of flavor. The breast and thigh pieces were cooked just right, moist and tender on the inside. The accompanying spaetzle were not overly pillowy, kind of chewy, but paired just fine with this dish. Given the low attendance that night, we had the chance to linger at our table making for a leisurely and pleasant meal experience. Went to Der Brameister for family celebration. There was 15 of us total and we had a large table in a separate room. My husband loves German food and this was some of the best we ever had. Food came out timely. A waiter was really efficient and personable. Sauerkraut balls were delicious. We loved Wienerschnitzel. German potato salad, purple cabbage, sausage platter and chicken paprikash. Everything was delicious. Great wine selection with reasonable mark up. read more

We had a reservation for a group of 9, and the service was outstanding. The server was attentive, quick and made sure she had things right. We never felt rushed to leave. The bartender came out several times to answer questions on the beer menu and offered samples on recommendations. But they didn't ask the name they put us at the bar. A couple came in 10 minutes later and they were given a dining room seat with no reservation. I never felt so disrespected. A great throwback to the old style German restaurants that were all over NE Ohio back in the day. The wood paneling is authentic and the family that runs it have been around a while. As you'd expect, they have a great selection of German and other European beers and wines. For desert the streusel is homemade and delicious, apple, blueberry and cherry, you can't go wrong. The apps are very good, especially the pretzels and the meat and cheese plate. The sauerkraut balls are not as good as you can get down in Akron, though. The schnitzel entrees are fine, but not outstanding. The service was a bit weird, as we had 3 come to the table throughout the meal and we weren't sure who the actual waitress or waiter was, so we had to chance them down for drinks. Came to Der Braumeister for Brunch on a Saturday. This place was FANTASTIC!!!!! It's not an all you can eat buffet style brunch - more a menu driven breakfast/lunch type meal. One of the owners was our server. She knew everything about the available European beer selection and was very helpful when trying to pick the right menu items. I had the Breakfast Sandwich / which included the homemade sausage / that that same server/owner helped make. Prices were cheap for the quality of food we were served. A perennial favorite in my book due to the well-crafted food and lengthy list of excellent European beers. It has gotten a bit of a facelift in recent years while retaining its wood-paneled rustic charm, and the menu has been tweaked and refined to keep the classics and offer some new culinary delights. There are more non-meat options these days for my vegetarian pals. The owners and servers are friendly and eager to help with the beer list or to weigh in on the food choices. Have driven by this place numerous times over the past 20+ years and finally stopped for dinner. Excellent beer selection with many foreign beers to choose from. Started off with an order of potato pancakes that came with two pancakes placed on top of some sour cream with fresh apple sauce on top that was delicious. We tried two different schnitzel (veal and pork) with spaetzle, one with a mushroom gravy the other with paprikash gravy. The veal was more tender than the pork which could have been a little thinner, but flavor was excellent. Ended the meal with a piece of apple strudel that is made on site and a perfect finish! They offer a Saturday Brunch and the menu looked quite appealing, so may be coming back soon to try that out. read more

hanza brewery was closed (an extreme place of quality if you want some actual german food) so decided to do this as second option, i cannot emphasize enough how ridiculously pathetic this food is. 0 salt or spices, i can tell everything i got (meat, cabbage, and spätzle) was all precooked from boxes and slabbed on plates from someone in the back whose more factory worker than anything associated with preparing food. the meat looked and tasted like a hungry man microwave meal, wouldn't be surprised that's what it was. the spätzle made me the most upset since it's one of the only things you can't get at a generic gastropub rather than german restaurant. neither a lick of salt or even low grade cheese/oil, they reminisced more of the coagulated throat boogers you get when you're sick but even those have more flavor i usually never get german adjacent food (gastropubs etc) period because it's usually TGI fridays tier food (this might be worse), but this food truly insulted me with its disgusting prices and folly decorations. fwiw i lived in germany when i was younger and have been many times, so wanted to show my gf what this can be about... i read the owner on here saying you make everything from scratch?? if you're reading this, consider how your literal job is to steal people's money and feed them malnourishing gruel, your career would be more moral as a prison warden. welcome to cleveland OH! read more

Very good experience with only a couple of flaws. But owner and chef Jennifer made it explicitly clear that she is very responsive to customer opinions. Impressed with the main entrees. Great bone in smoked chop and sausage. Schnitzel and German potato salad wete top notch. One of the best selection of German, European and domestic beers around. Really liked the decor and setting, which is warm and intimate, clean and comfortable. Service was excellent and extra points for computerized processes for orders and payment. My wife and I returned to one of our past favorite places - Der Braumeister on August 1st. We were greated quickly and sat at a booth. We were asked for our beverage choices. They had an extensive beer selection! I chose an Oktoberfest which was great. We have always loved the Braumeister's sauerkraut balls and they lived up to memory as being super delicious! We also got the house made German-style pretzel which was also great. For our entrees, we both opted for the build your own schnitzel- my wife selecting chicken while I went with veal. Both were extremely tender. Both came with choice of starch and veggies. We both went with the braised red cabbage and spatzels. A completely delicious meal. Our only regrets? Realizing we needed to visit and support this great establishment more in the future. When you are looking for some authentic, homemade European food in Cleveland, this is a "must stop". We've been here a couple of times. Most recently a group of 6 met for dinner. Wide selection of beers, and everyone at our table tried something different. All were pleased with their choices. I had the Kolsch and it was tasty and on the lighter side- just right- to accompany my German meal! Two of the group ordered the Veal Schnitzel and said it was delicious, with just light breading. My vegetarian husband ordered the Vegan Sausage choice, and said it was very good. I had the 3 Sausage plate with Kraut and German Potato Salad and it was delicious. It was such a generous portion that I could only eat 1/2 of each sausage, and I am looking forward to the leftovers. One of my friends ordered the Sauerbraten and said it was excellent as well. Our server was Brittany and she did an excellent job. She was efficient - but took the time to have some fun with and us and a few laughs. What a beautiful person! I was so eager to start eating, that I forgot to take a photo of my plate, but presentation was great- I doubt a photo could do it justice, because it wouldn't capture the aroma of those delicious sausages! I love this place - especially on particularly cold/snowy nights. They have they warm wood interior that makes you feel at home. Plus friendliness of servers gives you those family vibes too. Food is traditional stick to your ribs- schnitzel, goulash, paprikas, perogies. You can't really miss as long as you show up hungry and aren't carb-conscious. Do not sleep on the pretzel appetizer - it cooked out hot fresh, with a sheen of butter and fine salt. Dip it in cheese or mustard, or take it plain. It's perfect -like a fresh savory donut. The beer was great and so was the sauerkraut martini. Ordered a beet salad that was really good if you like beets and I do. For dinner we got a few things to share The chicken paprikash was good the gravy on it was delicious. We had some German potato salad that was very good if the potatoes were sliced a little thinner it would be better. The traditional veal schnitzel was also good. Meat was perfect. Stopped in for Cleveland Independents Restaurant Week with a friend. Servers were friendly and patient. Atmosphere is that of a 100 year old German cabin (not beer hall because it's not a big open space) - warm, dim, and cozy, but worn/outdated decor and some dust. Definitely a place with character. I started things off with a glass of Schofferhofer $7 - it was this wonderful light wheat grapefruit beer. For food I did the three courses for $33 with a side of pierogies $6 because why the heck not. Live it up. I went with the dumpling soup, wiener schnitzel oscar, and the cherry strudel. The soup was good, definitely something you'd eat to warm you up/make you feel better. The schnitzel was disappointing as it was mostly fried breading with paper thin veal (I knew the meat would be thin, but not so thin you couldn't tell meat was even there). I was envious of the perfectly cooked rib eye dish that my friend got. Pierogies were ricotta/sweet cheese and pretty good. Strudel wasn't really my cup of tea but my friend liked theirs. While I wasn't as impressed with the food this time, it was still A-Ok. I loved my beer and the service was great. Dining-in gives a much better experience than picking up a take-out order.
