    Viener Schnitzel wad delicious

July 2025, We dodged the rain and headed to Marie's for an early supper. We were surprised so walk into a full restaurant. Only one 4 top table was left and waiting for us. Marie's was a little chili but soon warmed up with all hungry people chowing down on their favorites menu items. We ordered a dinner salad, split pea soup, Cevapi, Viener Schnitzel. For dessert we headed down the road to the Apple Cart for ice cream.

Searched Eastern European food and this location popped up! It has a diner feel when entering but has unique food on the menu a normal diner does not! We did take out but the service just getting the food quickly and having everything we ordered was great. The food and drinks were also yummy. One downfall is if you do order late, since they make everything homemade they might be out which sadly we ordered the mash potatoes and they were out that evening.

First time at Marie's. I ordered a viener schnitzel with double vegetables. It came with a half loaf of Italian bread with butter . I also had a large water. The service was awesome she came to see if I needed anything a couple of times. Hands down the best Schnitzel in Cleveland.

Okay, I might be biased since I've been coming to Marie's the better portion of my life and the owners are more like family than a business. Nestled in the heart of my old neighborhood, you will find home cooked authentic Eastern European cooking just like mama would make. Whether it's a funeral, a celebration or Monday night dinner Marie's is always an option. You can order in or take it to go, get a full or half portion, lunch or dinner, the choice is yours. Where to begin, I wasn't always a vegetarian and oh how I loved their schnitzel with home fries and goulash gravy. It's authentic and full of flavor. Now, I tend to stick epithet carb loading and the comforts of spatzels (dumplings), veggies, cauliflower soup, if it Is on special and a salad with the house dressing. Now the dressing, sure it's just vinegar and a few other basics, but it's delicious, my husband always has a comment when I drink from the bowl to get the very last drop. It is just that good. Back to food, depending on the day of the week you can get specials or order off the regular menu. They have what my sister refers to as the best, sometimes better than my mothers, sadama (stuffed cabbage). The specials run out, so make sure you order early. So head to the corner of 45th/St. Clair and try an amazing family run scratch kitchen, get the strudel and an MGD too if you want to fit in with the local crowd.

This local neighborhood restaurant is a bright spot in a mixed industrial/transitional rust belt neighborhood in Cleveland. We had lunch there on Martin Luther King day, and were very pleased by the friendly service and generous portions. It's like an Eastern European diner, with options like stuffed cabbage and schnitzel offered in both lunch and dinner size portions. Our meals were very reasonably priced and included soup or salad and a good sized basket of soft, fresh bread and butter. Next time save room for strudel or pie.

While this Cleveland tradition continues to bring in the diners, newcomers may wonder if they've driven the right direction. I nearly went past this place, driving through the warehouses and more industrial neighborhood. But don't let the exterior fool you. The folks inside are turning out huge meals for crowds that keep coming back. At 7pm on a Tuesday, they'd already sold out of both of the Tuesday specials (spaghetti and chicken paprikash). I saw loaded boxes going out with several takeaway diners. No matter: I ordered the cevapi with 1/2 dumplings, 1/2 noodles for my side. You look at the picture...and you'll agree with me: order for one but bring a friend to help you finish! Delicious veal-lamb-pork sausages, with or without goulash gravy.

We got the tostada and the biscuits and gravy. The tostada was a work of art! And bursting with flavor. The biscuits and gravy. Where to start? The whole thing was covered with a gravy, chock full of sausage and, perfectly cooked mushrooms. I got a sweet potato cinnamon bun to go. Can't wait to try that later today!

Both were delicious! The biscuit was perfectly buttery, and it was covered in a rich, flavorful mushroom gravy and came with scrambled eggs. It was filling but somehow not too heavy. I licked my plate clean. The pancake was also wonderful. It was topped with a thin layer of rhubarb jam that brought a nice tartness along with a dollop of sorghum butter and whipped cream, and served with Ohio maple syrup on the side. I could have easily had a whole stack of the pancakes. The staff was friendly, and though the place was busy, the service was efficient. Excited to come here again! It was busy without seeming crowded. The space was spacious, well decorated, unique and made good use of space. The bathrooms downstairs were artsy and in good taste! Menu was kind of limited but I have a feeling they try new things all the time so it was exciting to pick from. Too bad they ran out of some things when we went. I ordered the fried chicken dish which was fried to perfection, well seasoned and paired interestingly with pickled veggies. The portion was tiny but on par with something I would expect in a place like this. I also ordered 2 oysters for $9 which were the tiniest oysters I've ever seen. Sure, they were good but I would not get them again. My girlfriend ordered a canned non-alcoholic drink for $6 (way too expensive for a soda!) and the brussell sprouts. They were good but there was only 4 of them! Our server gave off a "I'm too cool for this gig" and dismissed my order when I asked for the chicken. He recommended the lamb which uh, was almost 3x as expensive as the chicken and not something I wanted as a light late dinner after a show... My friend's SIL worked here so she was warm, welcoming and gave us a great seat. So yeah, it's not the best restaurant in Cleveland or anything but there is something to the hype and if I do get the chance, the brunch looks amazing!

Between us, we had scrambled eggs with cheese, eggs fried over-medium, bacon, French toast, pancakes and potatoes. Everything was decent. I wished that the cheese had been cooked into the scrambled eggs and allowed to melt, but that was okay. Also, the texture of the breakfast potatoes were like mashed potatoes that had been smashed and burned on the flattop grill. We weren't a fan of those. Overall, the place was cute and quaint and the staff was friendly. Everything was priced very reasonably as well. Also, anywhere you can find the locals at is usually a good sign!
