This place rules!! Very old school charm that's hard to come by today. Very cozy, feels like basically hanging out at your aunts place waiting for a home cooked meal. They have real flavorful crisp Croatian beers which are worth trying. While they're smart enough to cover the market and offer some Italian dishes, American etc they're Croatian so your best best is to ask for some of the Croatian specialties. I had the ćevapi, which are real old school sausages which I think was like three kinds of meat with a lot of garlic and paprika. Very juicy and smoky! The food and service here are OK. No huge complaints, really. Though I felt like we were dining in an empty church fellowship hall, it was comfortable. Our server, while not exactly uber friendly, was spot-on. The food, while decent, was a little bland for my taste. Not bad at all. Just ... bland. July 2025, We dodged the rain and headed to Marie's for an early supper. We were surprised so walk into a full restaurant. Only one 4 top table was left and waiting for us. Marie's was a little chili but soon warmed up with all hungry people chowing down on their favorites menu items. We ordered a dinner salad, split pea soup, Cevapi, Viener Schnitzel. I found this little gem while looking for a lunch spot for my grandmother. I ordered the veinersniyzel. And it was delicious. The waitress was very knowledgeable of her products. And even invited us back for other days when the specials of the days are available. I want everyone to try this place. Because small gems like this are hard to come by. The decor is very late 1950s middle-European. The place is clean and appropriately decorated. And the staff was pleasant and helpful. However - their menu is very limited; so many things are fried! And the tuna salad sandwich I ordered was...bland. It was made with mayonnaise (!), and nothing else was in it - no onions, no celery. And they only serve one kind of bread. Searched Eastern European food and this location popped up! It has a diner feel when entering but has unique food on the menu a normal diner does not! We did take out but the service just getting the food quickly and having everything we ordered was great. The food and drinks were also yummy. One downfall is if you do order late, since they make everything homemade they might be out which sadly we ordered the mash potatoes and they were out that evening. read more

Okay, I might be biased since I've been coming to Marie's the better portion of my life and the owners are more like family than a business. Nestled in the heart of my old neighborhood, you will find home cooked authentic Eastern European cooking just like mama would make. Whether it's a funeral, a celebration or Monday night dinner Marie's is always an option. You can order in or take it to go, get a full or half portion, lunch or dinner, the choice is yours. Where to begin, I wasn't always a vegetarian and oh how I loved their schnitzel with home fries and goulash gravy. It's authentic and full of flavor. Now, I tend to stick epithet carb loading and the comforts of spatzels (dumplings), veggies, cauliflower soup, if it Is on special and a salad with the house dressing. Now the dressing, sure it's just vinegar and a few other basics, but it's delicious, my husband always has a comment when I drink from the bowl to get the very last drop. It is just that good. Back to food, depending on the day of the week you can get specials or order off the regular menu. They have what my sister refers to as the best, sometimes better than my mothers, sadama (stuffed cabbage). The specials run out, so make sure you order early. We had lunch there on Martin Luther King day, and were very pleased by the friendly service and generous portions. It's like an Eastern European diner, with options like stuffed cabbage and schnitzel offered in both lunch and dinner size portions. I nearly went past this place, driving through the warehouses and more industrial neighborhood. But don't let the exterior fool you. The folks inside are turning out huge meals for crowds that keep coming back. At 7pm on a Tuesday, they'd already sold out of both of the Tuesday specials (spaghetti and chicken paprikash). I saw loaded boxes going out with several takeaway diners. No matter: I ordered the cevapi with 1/2 dumplings, 1/2 noodles for my side. This place has a comfortable, no frills dining room, friendly down-to-earth staff, and amazing Croatian home cooking. Make sure to get the Cevapi, sausages made with the trifecta of veal, lamb, and pork. I had mine with dumplings and gravy (perfectly cooked morsels in a savory gravy), fried cabbage that had been finely shredded and lightly pan-fried, and a side salad with a delicious house vinaigrette. There is plenty to choose from that you'd recognize from other European cultures, but you owe it to yourself to have them at Marie's. read more

Have never been disappointed with Marie's. Normally I get the schnitzel, but tried the pork chop this week and was again very pleased. The chicken noodle soup is the best, but be careful also the hottest you will find. Served with fresh bread. Tastes and feels like eating at your grandmothers. read more

My family really likes Marie's restaurant. We've been coming here on and off for a few years and recently we visited for dinner. It was good. A few of us ordered the combo platter that comes with city chicken, schnitzel, sausages, pork chop, and chicken (yes, it's huge). Two of us shared it and we ate it all but we were stuffed. I love their house salad- it's so light and fresh. Prices are around $15 for each entree but you get SO much food. read more

I was at a restaurant with the family and we were very disappointed. We ordered cevapi that looked more like a bad attempt to imitate cevaps served with bad-taste potatoes. The "cevapi" were very bad. Eating few bites give me bad taste for rest of the day. The salad floated in a large amount of liquid. Worst food I ever ordered. My husband and I heard about Marie's from German musicians we know, so we were excited to try it. He ordered the goulash, which was "good, not great," but he said he would order it again. I asked about the Alfredo with broccoli, because I didn't want meat. "Do you make your own sauce?" The answer the woman running Marie's last night gave: "We make everything here, and if we don't, we find people to make it for us. The Alfredo sauce is the best I have ever had." Well, she must eat Ragu Alfredo because what she brought me was straight out of a jar, and not one of the pricier jars. That's when I realized she hadn't lied, but she also didn't tell me the truth: They found Ragu (or another supermarket brand) to make it for them. And she added a little gaslighting by suggesting it was going to be fabulous. (Unless she has only tasted the jarred Alfredo, then it would be her truth, but this stuff was nevertheless barely edible.) We won't be returning because there are so many restaurants to try on our visits to Cleveland, and that is sad because it's such a charming place. On a bright note, the Croatian beer we drank was delicious, as was the bread, which reminded me of Balkan bread from our hometown. The house salad dressing was also good, but the lettuce was the less-than-desirable parts of an iceberg head. We took blueberry pie to go--decent filling, but the crust was a fail. My family,my husbands family too have been coming to Maries as long as as its been open. Schnitzel amazing(imo they blow Sterles out of the water ,) and Cevapi with buttered bread n raw onion best flavor combo...you will be craving it for days,weeks to come. Anna is so sweet and works her butt off...but always with smile. I can come in few times a week or not for 6mons she always recognizes my voice on phone and when i come in asks about the family. This is service you cannot get just anywhere. I have had everything on menu(well almost liver n onions not my cup of tea...but my mom loves it..) and the food is consistantly delicious. Just like your mom or grandma would make...if you are Eastern european (which my husband is and so am i) I always have hard time choosing btwn Cevapi & schnitzel and Anna explained i could get half n half so 5 cevapi & piece of schnitzel which made my day.... i am telling you try those two dishes and you will see why they have stood test of time &are like a neighborhood staple. You can also order 6 cevapi extra id believe menu states that but just ask and i promise they will accomadate you.
