We got to cross another "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" restaurant off our list: Good Company in Cleveland's Detroit Shoreway neighborhood! It's a cute little place right near the lake with white brick walls, a casual atmosphere, and phenomenal service. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and sat right away. Our waitress truly went above and beyond for us, making our visit feel extra special!! Everything is so fresh here--they even make their own pretzels and sandwich bread from scratch! We shared a Soft Pretzel served with house-made brown butter cream cheese which was absolutely delicious. For mains, I got the Cheese Steak Dip and my husband got the Surf & Turf. On our third visit to Good Company we ended up getting a smash burger which we cut in half and split because it was so large. Burger was perfectly cooked. Sandwich was good, but a little heavy on the lettuce. We also got the chicken skins with ranch, which of course are the best part of fried chicken. This dish was raped about by Michael Symon and Guy Fieri. We also got some french fries dusted and hot spices which we need more ranch dressing for. I really wish I could agree with the good reviews that made me try this restaurant, but I'm genuinely disappointed in my experience. We had a 30 minute wait, and this was expected on a Friday night. They called when the table was ready, and in the meantime you are able to walk around the area which is very nice. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice at first, and if you're seated in the front that would definitely be a high point of your experience, but we were seated not quite in the back (which in my opinion is way too dark) but at one of the tables between the kitchen prep section and the bathrooms. The entire meal was spent watching the employees roll utensils and people waiting for the bathrooms (which were covered in... sticky... substances). After ordering, and waiting an hour for the food to come (the appetizers we ordered were not brought out in that wait, nor did we see our server the entire time) the food was overcooked to the point my burger physically hurt to hold since it was rock hard and cutting into my palm. We saw this on Drive-ins, Diners and Dives, and went that evening. This neighborhood eatery is off the beaten path, but close to Edgewater Park tunnel. We went on a Saturday around 5. The space opened at 4 p.m. The old industrial room is large with old walls and a concrete floor. Tables and high tops comfortably fill the space. Nice music plays over the speakers. There are TVs. We were seated right away. Then the people came. This is a popular place hidden in a condo/apartment area. Menu included made-from-scratch sandwiches, marinated wings, milk shakes with/out spirits and other good choices. There are Vegan choices. A bar where people were visiting and eating was nice. My friend opted for the wings given that they marinated them for 72 hours. Someone of them were a bit too spicy for us but that's really more on us then on them. Fantastic crispy beer battered celery root. Very mild flavor but like a less crunchy potato chip. The wings are average in size but fall off the bone tender and come in some unique flavors like cherry cola bbq. My alcoholic milk shake had no hint of alcohol but was still a fantastic peanut butter chocolate flavor. The steak was meh. Mostly tender. Cut into slices. Nice peppercorn size and okay French fries with some rosemary which adds a nice flavor profile. The roasted Brussels sprouts with it were excellent especially with the Parmesan on top. This was my first time at the Cleveland location and the food was equally excellent. The wings really are the best in the area - the meat is super tender, a confit really, and it drops off the bone. Sauces are fantastic. I also had a garden salad that was super refreshing while my friends had a milkshake (yum!) and split the melt and grilled cheese sandwiches. Our server was delightful - you could tell she really cared about our experience. You can provide good service but for her she took real pride in it and really cared about making sure our meal was good. We really appreciated that. Space is pleasant in Battery Park - I think I like the Akron location a touch better, warmer, less industrial feeling but it's not bad just personal preference. Note: be careful on parking they have a few spaces in the narrow street immediately in front of the restaurant but the parking lot around the corner adjacent to battery park is permit only (and you'll be towed!). If the ones immediately in front of the venue are take you need to park further down (west) on 76th. read more

Delicious! This was my third time at Good Company, and the best time. I really went for it and ordered the Steak Supper on a Sunday afternoon (it was on special for $19.99). It's an 8-oz steak perfectly served medium-rare with choice of a sauce (I got chimichurri), fries and a seasonal veg (on this day in November, broccolini). It was a substantial serving of rich, buttery, garlicky food and I ate it all (sorry no photos). I'll be back to try another sauce option. It was also my first time trying the famous 72-hour wings and the hype is earned. Very tender, no gnawing at bones required - the meat falls right off. I was also pleasantly surprised by the dry rub. While their dinner sandwiches like the Gabagool are what put them on the Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives map, I'm a staunch believer that Good Company's brunch can throw down with the best of them and could potentially be better than their dinner?? The crowd pleasing breakfast burrito comes in both meat and vegan options, and you can even savor their winsome 72-hour chicken wings in the mornings too. Their wings quite literally fall off the bone, and are evenly coated with whatever delectable sauce you choose - don't skip them. Any of their smashburger variants also hits the spot. There's a lot to like here. I like the casual vibe of the place. And, the service was excellent. My wife and I both ordered the Argentinian steak sandwich. The chimichurri was excellent, and I asked for more on the side. I liked the bun and the toppings. The only problem was that there wasn't very much steak in the sandwich. But, the sides were phenomenal. There weren't as many fries should've been, but they were excellent. I will definitely come back here for the fried chicken skins, if for no reason. Seriously: I might just eat nothing but this next time, and then check myself into a hospital after I have a heart attack. But, it will be totally worth it. They were that good. This former alley turned restaurant is special as they have a homemade applesauce for kids. It tastes just like apple pie filling. My 2 y/o ate a hamburger for the first time here. When a friend sent me the menu, I had to come check it out. Everything looked so interesting and cool but the fried chicken skins is what brought me in. The restaurant isn't located on a busy street or near any foot traffic outside of the local residents so even if you happened to find yourself in the area, you would still almost miss it. I don't eat red meat so I never got the chance to experience pork rinds, but I always wanted to. The skin of baked/fried chicken is probably my favorite part so I was super excited to try the fried chicken skins. They did not disappoint and they came with some really good pickled celery. Our server was very friendly and recommended drinks and food to try. The playlist was on point, and I loved the diner feel of the space. I tried a smoky Mezcal margarita drink with tajin around the rim and a reposado tequila infused with chamomile cocktail. Both were amazing. The wings were so tender and cooked to perfection! I'm a fan of Good Company. I have been a handful of times and my experiences have been positive. My favorite menu item is easily the mushroom burger - ugh, so good. Just typing it makes me want to get one! Heads up that they only do dry rubs for their wings. I have had them once or twice but, no matter how flavorful the rub is, I'm much more of a sauce girl. I have also had a milkshake (yum!) and another dessert (not so yum, but mostly my fault for not trying something I wasn't crazy about). The customer service has been great as well though a bit slow during busy times. There is a lot on the side of the building and street parking in front. It is located in an old industrial building, so there is tons of space. I can't say enough about the Shroomer. It was an amazing vegan sandwich. The mushrooms were shredded, the onions were crispy and it had malted pickles. I have never had malted pickles. They were awesome. Our server told us they hired a new vegan chef and now there are several vegan items on the menu. My partner ordered the Good One burger and said it was amazing also. Items are al a carte so we also ordered a basket of fries. It was exciting to see vegan options on their brunch menu and shake menu. It was the perfect dinner before heading to a movie. The interior is airy and minimalist style with dark green accents. We started with the Thai chili wings which were fall-off-the-bone tender and the perfect balance of sweet and heat. Visited on June 8th at 7 PM. Unfortunately, my experience was impacted by the bartender on duty--believe her name was Emma, a white woman with curly hair. She was noticeably friendly to the woman I was with but incredibly dismissive toward me. It was uncomfortable and even my friend noticed it, which made the experience feel personal and disappointing. That said, Good Company still has a lot going for it. The food is outstanding--the wings might be the best I've had in Cleveland: super crispy, well-seasoned, and full of flavor. The burger is also top-tier. It's definitely a solid spot to chill with friends or go on a casual date. The atmosphere is cool and relaxed, and aside from this one interaction, the staff usually seem upbeat and welcoming. These folks are consistently ramping up the quality of their food as shown by this recent meal we had. We'd never had the fried celery root "chips", but they really hit the spot as an alternative to fries, and they allowed us to put on whichever wing rub or dipping sauce we wanted! The Good One burger was just perfect with its charred patties, special sauce and interesting bun, and the Thai chili wings were gooey, had a kick and were perfectly crispy on the outside.
