It was bad enough I had to cut back on dog walks (out Doodle was not happy with this). Reviewing the medical literature I found out there was a minimally invasive procedure for the treatment of my condition. After multiple phone calls to clinics offering dermal fillers (mostly for cosmetic procedures) I found the practice of Dr. Anna Sylwestrowicz, MD . The office was very accommodating with my unique inquiry and agreed to meet with me just to discuss my diagnosis and treatment plan. One of the most vital requirements for a good medical outcome is a solid 'Doctor-Patient' relationship that starts with an open and frank discussion. I found my conversation with Dr. Anna (as she prefers to be addressed) to be all a patient could ask for. We jointly came up with a plan, discussed the various dermal fillers on the market, her experience with their use, possible outcomes and hoped for outcomes. I agreed to the procedure. Three weeks before the start of my hike, Dr. Anna injected my left heel pad with dermal filler. The procedure itself was tolerable and I walk out of the office with an order to 'take it easy' with my walking. For the first 5-6 days I was sore at the injection site but that was too be expected. After a week, I restarted my daily dog walks (much to the pleasure of our Doodle) and gradually increased my mileage. On April 23rd, 2026 I found my self hiking south on the Appalachian Trail from the small village of Damascus, Virginia. I was planned on keeping my daily mileage under 20km while carrying 15kg of pack. At that point, my heel was pain free. I hiked for a month pain free. I ended this section of the Trail in the very tourist town of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. This was a distance of 400km-pain free! Considering the pain, I was in prior to the injection of dermal filler this was a remarkable medical outcome. I am very, very pleased. As for the future, there are 333km left for me to complete. During the consultation, there was very little engagement ( no follow up questions asked ) or effort to understand my goals. The interaction felt minimal and somewhat dismissive, as though having me as a potential client wasn't really a priority. A consultation should feel welcoming, attentive, and informative especially for new client but this experience lacked those qualities. I left feeling undervalued. It's such a bummer because the place looks professional. Too bad.

There's a lot out there, but I'm selective having had some amazing practitioners across the water. My preference would always be a small independent, ideally with a sole owner, friendly and interested staff, all of whom who are passionate about their products, with skills that really make the difference to one's day. Charmaine fits my bill. So far I have had a couple of wonderful facials and, yes, glowed afterwards. I really saw an improvement. Owing covid I've not enjoyed a facial for a few years, but even so... Also some needle-work, just one session to help with some facial redness, mild rosacea at times, age spots and some spider veins around nose and chin. There has been a great improvement in all areas. The salon is small, not too small. With a relaxing lounge. Music in rooms is adjustable which matters to me. Decor is attractive, relaxing and tasteful. Treatments such as: IPL Lumecca for redness and sun damage/Fractora RF Needling (anti ageing)/Forma Skin-tightening and Bodyfx Treatments (for spot fat reduction) also offered. They sell the products they use, and much more: all reputable and worthy: creams, serums, etc. Zo by Zein Obagi for example. I also had a very interesting test done before hand. $75 and it gave a detailed description in pictures of my skin today. A good thing and, with expert help, I now know better how to improve and stop the rot! I'd had one done about 8 years' ago. The equipment has improved immeasurably since then and I was actually happy to see where things stood years' on. I'd certainly take Charmaine's advice on improvements that can be made relatively easily within a budget. I would trust her evaluation and any recommendations even though we've been together for a short of time. I know 10 out of 10 when I see it! I look forward every time to entering their door. So glad to have found them, tucked away, but downtown central in a lovely area in the inner harbour next to the Grand Pacific hotel. So glad they got through the pandemic and are still thriving in Victoria for us.
